+ 4 Infection

ad

Good morning gents,

So I'm sure a good amount of you saw my picture and read I was worrying about a possible infection. I took the advice, and waited until I saw the redness spread and I started getting feverish. Needless to say, yesterday the redness spread like wild fire, and I got hit with a fever, so I took my ass to the er. Turns out I got diagnosed with cellulitis, and the doctor said it was good I came in when I did.

Now that is taken care of, there is one thing that has me stumped. How the hell could I have got an infection. This was my very first time to pin, pinned my right quad, I did go a little low, but not terribly low. I was about as sterile as you can be, wiped the top of the vial twice, cleaned the injection area with antibacterial soap, cleaned my hands twice, wiped the area with alcohol, and didn't remove the needle cap until I was ready to inject. I used a 1 inch 25g needle, went all the way in but left a small amount of needle visable, took about 30 seconds to inject, then waited 30 seconds to pull out. I don't want to say it was dirty gear because I got it from arguably one of the top sources around, but you never know there could always be that bad batch... So should I try to shoot again, should I try some new gear?

Also a bit of advice, if you think you have an infection, and after 3 days it looks worse or hasn't cleared up, go get checked, it's not worth trying to ride it out, take care if yourself.....swelling and redness can just be irritation, but if it progressively gets worse or stays the same and you start to develop fever like symptoms, and the redness is warm.... You most likely are infected.

Thanks guys for helping me out, you guys saved leg on this one.

I just got an infection after pinning 2cc's of test 500 into my delt over 5 days ago.... Got a fever of 101.7 within 24 hours and felt like shit. Been riding on ibuprofen everyday and even aspirated 6cc's of puss out of the absess but it's still there. Gonna go to the doctors today and get it checked out and hopefully get this shit taken care of. This high concentrated gear is toxic... Too bad I have over 75ml of it left but Id rather not pin it anymore if it's what caused this.

Bill6191's picture

Good lord man, that sounds like a hefty amount to shoot into a delt. You should have hit the doctors the second you had that high fever, idk how you stuck it out for 5 days. I hope all goes well with the doctor. Please keep us up dated.

White Bolt's picture

I've been shooting 3cc's in it for the longest time and never had any problems. Yeah the fever was short lived as I started poppin ibuprofen 3x daily it went back to normal, but the swelling didn't stop. I ended up getting the abscess drained at the ER yesterday, they cut the abscess and over 30cc's of puss came out. I told the doctors I don't know how I got the abscess, and they didn't ask any questions so steroids weren't mentioned. I got prescribed two different types of antibiotics and they sent me on my way. I feel a lot better now, and will probably never hit delts again after this fiasco.

First abscess in over 500 successful shots btw. Guess it's bound to happen eventually but I contribute this to the high dose test blend I was using.

Bill6191's picture

Well I'm glad to hear everything went smooth with the doctor, luckily I didn't get an abcess, that had to be scary as hell. But yea it sounds like the gear considering it was the first time out of that many pins.. Glad you are ok bro

Dextermorganlv's picture

Glad your OK man, and I'm glad you had the balls to go the ER. The one thing I would do differently is to NOT tell the MD that you were on gear. Cellulitis (or any infection) is treated the same way regardless of its pathway into the body. Saying your on gear will be added to permanent medical record and now you are considered a "drug user". Right along with junkies. Next time just say you were poked at work, or spider bite, or "I don't know what the hell happened, my leg just started hurting..."

Good luck man, and like I said, really glad you are doing well now.

Bill6191's picture

Yea I am glad too, it was pretty scary to be honest. I figured rather be safe than sorry so I sucked it up and went into the er. Luckily it all went really smooth there and my doctor was really cool about it all. I didn't know it was all the same, cause I would have made something up. I just figured being straight up would be good, I deff dodged a bullet there. But all in all it was pretty nerve racking, I'm just glad I came out ok. I'm gunna have antibiotics on hand at all times now, because you never know.

Oldermuscle41's picture

No matter how careful you are infections are a possible unfortunate complication of giving yourself an injection. Even in the most sterile environments like the operating room people end up with post surgical infections. It is what it is.

manbearpig's picture

Which antibiotic did your doc put you on? I think I may have an infection right now. I started using an old script of antibiotics i had for acne a few hours ago. It should be able to fight staph/cellulitis from the info I gathered.

cdyrdes's picture

Was it doxycyclene? If so that one works for staph and cellulitis. I havr a few bottles myself, it doesnt hurt to try it yourself self before you go to the doc. Bactrim is another one that works well

manbearpig's picture

Minocycline. Same class. They iinhibit binding of tRNA to mRNA preventing protein synthesis in bacteria.

cdyrdes's picture

Gotcha

Bill6191's picture

He put me on cephalexin/keflex at 500mg 3 times a day for a week. Pm sent bro

WINNING's picture

I completely feel your pain, the last time I pinned quads I caught a terrible infection and to make matters worse it was Pharma gear. Quads are tricky, try sticking with glutes or delts and get new gear, from a different source. Infections suck, trust me I have been there twice! I spent 11 days once in a hospital. Chances are you didn't let the alcohol dry before you pinned and you introduced it into your body.

Bill6191's picture

Damn bro sorry to hear that, but good to know I'm not alone... Yea man my leg was still damp from washing it and the alcohol hadn't fullyed dried... There are so many possibilities, I'm just glad it's taken care of and I still have a leg

Bill6191's picture

Update: infection has gone down significantly. Still running a minor fever, but still have 6 days to go on meds... Just wanted to give a big thanks to all the guys on here, with out your experience and knowledge I'd most likely be in a really bad spot.

Bill6191's picture

So quick question, and I'm not trying to sound like an idiot, but will testing the gear out one more time to see how it takes be a bad idea, considering I have antibiotics on hand, or should I just bite the bullet and get rid of what I have and start over? Because of what mtor posted, that might have been my problem... Any thoughts

MegaT883's picture

Let's see trip to the ER $$$ or more. Drugs to treat $$. Maybe you have insurance. Meet deductible $$$. Lost wages $$$ Cost of replacement stash $$$. Cost of hospital stay due to 2nd infection $$$$.
Cost of using out weighs benefit. You playing Russian roulette with your health to save some cash. Dump it replace and move on.

Bill6191's picture

Yea, I made my mind up. Dumping the gear and staring fresh, it's just not worth it in the end... I think I dodged a bullet this time and got off lucky...but thank you for the straight up no bs advice

vhman's picture

Yea, I'm going to chalk it up to a loss, a big loss, that's about a years worth of test. But rather lose some dollars than my leg,

I think you just answered your own question. It's all about how you value your health.

Bill6191's picture

Well touché sir

vhman's picture

I'm not trying to bust your ball here, just pointing out what you said. I happen to agree with you. I know it's hard, but I sure in the hell wouldn't pin something that could potentially cost me a limb or my life.
You can get more in a week or two and start over. Just do a smaller order this time to be sure. Best of luck.

Bill6191's picture

Yea man I hear ya, it's tough but you are right...
I appreciate the advice brother

mTor's picture

Brother
Glad to see you're doing better. The answer to your question about how is it possible you got an infection could be many
1. Antibacterial soap isn't really antibacterial at all. They've done culture studies and if anything bacteria grow faster on them then refuse soap.
2. Bacteria on the skin. Staphylococcus bacteria live on our skin and if they get in they cause problems. Just look at surgery, the amount of preparation that goes in before and people still get infections
3. You're incredibly unlucky and the bacteria that are in the area traveled onto the pin
4. Your hands were wet. Dampness allows bacteria to travel faster. In the medical
Community, if you're doing a sterile procedure and you brush up against something wet, the procedure is contaminated
Hope that helps

Bill6191's picture

Wow I really did not know that, thanks for the insight.... I will for sure take that into account next time.

vhman's picture

Great reminder to everyone. +1

Folks need to remember that they need to let the alcohol dry before pinning. It's the drying effect of the alcohol that kills the bacteria, etc.

McMeanie87's picture

Glad ur feeling better brother and got it checked out..that sucks big time tho getting an infection ur first pin..

Bill6191's picture

Yea it for sure sucks, but I guess that's how life goes, suck it up and press on right

vhman's picture

I'm glad that you posted up originally and asked for help. It did look like an infection from your pictures and description. I'm especially happy that you took the proper medical steps as well.
Is it possible to get an infection, even with the proper sterilization processes? Yes, but it's very, very rare. I agree with GearHead, that it sounds like dirty gear. Even a good source can have things go wrong. You are dealing with UGL. Unless you know what their production facility is like, you're only guessing what protocols they've got set up. I would bin this one and start new.

Bill6191's picture

Yea, I'm going to chalk it up to a loss, a big loss, that's about a years worth of test. But rather lose some dollars than my leg, I'll hit the source up and maybe they will hook me up, or at least make a new batch so nobody else has to go through this

vhman's picture

Sounds like a plan. Go to the SI page and ask around there as well. Good luck.

Dickkhead's picture

Bill, it does absolutely sound like dirty gear. I'm sorry.

Bill6191's picture

That's what I'm afraid of, and what really sucks is the source is very very reputable, do you think it would be a good idea to get in touch with them and let them know this happened

Dickkhead's picture

Absolutely you should. If they have a problem there are gonna be a lot more incidents besides yours.

Bill6191's picture

Alright, I appreciate the help man... I'll shoot them a pm

eatbig's picture

So when you went into see the doctor what did you tell them? Did they know you were using ug steroids and how did they react?

Bill6191's picture

Yea I figured it would be best to tell them the truth just in case, the doctor told me I shouldn't be so reckless, but he had seen stuff like this before, and so I wouldn't get dropped from insurance he summed it up to getting stuck by a needle.

cdyrdes's picture

Personally I wouldn't tell him I was injecting gear. An infection is an infection no matter if it was from a pin or from getting poked by some foreign object while swimming in murky water. Luckily the doc was cool and wrote it off but what if one day (just maybe) it happens again and you have to use a different doc and he's not so "cool"?.....get my drift?

Bill6191's picture

Yea I hear ya man, was just kind of in a panic, but I appreciate the heads up.

Dickkhead's picture

x2

pimplybutt2012's picture

Good to hear you went and got it checked and you got to the bottom of it.If it were me I would not use the same gear that caused the issue to begin with. Some people would say its overkill, but when using UGL its not a bad idea to have some sterile whatman filters, sterile vials and some benzyl alcohol.better to be safe.

Bill6191's picture

Yea I was thinking about filtering my gear, I'm kind of at a cross roads right now
