Struggling with sleep, what do you guys do?

ad

Title says most of it, I have been struggling bad with sleep. Falling asleep isnt too much of a problem but I'm often wide awake within 4 hours, or wake up ten plus times in the night.
I got the basics, no caffeine past noon, limit screen time near bed, avoid bright lights. Bedroom is dark, cool and quiet. I use magnesium bigylcinate, gabba and melatonin before bed.
I know some of it is suffering from ptsd but I just completed 16 weeks of counseling so I've pretty much done what I can for that.
I got interested in DSIP (delta sleep inducing peptide) but the reviews are very mixed.
I'm tempted by a few iu of growth before bed, but man, its kind of pricey.

Ooh, what is in that brother?

DP NET's picture

Sleep issues are brutal man, especially when it's not falling asleep but staying asleep.

On DSIP: reviews are mixed because it’s very individual. Some guys get deeper sleep, others feel nothing. It’s not a knockout, more of a “sleep quality” peptide if it works.

Low-dose GH before bed does help sleep depth for many, but yeah… price adds up fast unless you’re already running it for other reasons.

Zopiclone > zolpidem for staying asleep IMO, but I’d keep pharma stuff short-term if possible.

You’re definitely not alone with this, chronic insomnia is one of the hardest things to dial in. Hope you find something that clicks.

jpk654's picture

If you just started the magnesium, it can take up to 4 weeks to start seeing noticeable effects. If you started it, and your sleep got worse, it can (though rare) paradoxically cause insomnia. You mentioned PTSD, and sounds like you've been taking steps to work though it. Sometimes, people can have depression that goes along with PTSD, and that can throw sleep off too, as well as give us some other symptoms that dont manifest as typical depression. Mens symptoms in general presents very differently from just being sad, for instance. I'm sure that you've been asked several times, since you've done counceling, but if you want to know the questions that they would ask to screen for it, you can Google PHQ-9, and just take the exam yourself. If you score high, please reach out to someone. Wish you the best man.

Lately, it’s been my girl draining me insanely hard.

Melatonin
Ashwaganda

Other options:
Carisoprodol
Trazadone
Seraquil

Last ditch:
THC Edible-Depends on Strain/Person(not for me)
Other gummy remedies.
Low dose-Diazepam/Aprozolam(Not recommended)

All said and done, I get extreme insomnia. Last 2 nights, no sleep. Even with the sex plus potent aids, I maybe got 40 minutes each night. It’s ridiculous at this point.

Get your iron and ferritin levels tested.

Codeman253's picture

This, and probably just a full check up and sleep study if you can. I just ordered a home one only. But after donating blood too much and crashing my ferritin I had the worst insomnia for months, not to mention a bunch of other symptoms.

HGH will help as others have mentioned but it's not the only thing you need. As for getting to sleep, trazodone is more effective in the vast majority of people over drugs like ambien. I have both a hard time going to sleep and staying asleep, I take 300mg trazodone (talk to your doc about upping the dose if it's not keeping you asleep, because it does help with that also not just falling asleep but few drugs beat it in terms of getting you there. For staying asleep, temazepam works well for me (much better than ambien) but this will most likely be a not so easy drug to get, I've been on lifelong benzos so with my record, getting it prescribed is quite easy/normal and it's not the only benzo I am prescribed, so I obviously am biased towards benzos but if you don't want to go that route or attempt to, then I'd recommend trying anything except for antipsychotics to sleep. If your brain doesn't need an AP, it can very easily drive you into psychosis and that's not a good trade off for sleep. I'd recommend a higher dose of trazodone by itself, up to 300mg but of course, check with your doc. If that doesn't work or hasn't worked for you, lower the trazodone dose to maybe 50-100mg to get you to sleep and have a little antidepressant action going on with some anxiolysis, then add in something to keep you asleep. If you can't source temazepam (I've been on benzos for many, many years but I wouldn't recommend people to get into them, so try to treat this as a last resort.). I am also on daily adderall and temazepam can get me to sleep very easily at the proper dose, 30mg or so depending on your benzo tolerance. If I had to tell you what I'd do with some scripts that are much easier to get, get some gabapentin or pregabalin, start low and go slow, but 300-900mg taken 90-120 minutes before bed, with the trazodone being taken 10-20 min before bed (depending on your individual onset of action). This will knock you out cold and keep you asleep, it can be a heavy combo for gaba naive individuals but it's not a major interaction, maybe just some additive CNS depression but no crazy resp depression, again, verify for yourself. If it's lyrica (pregabalin) I'd start around 200mg. Take them normally first to assess tolerance, if you need a bump in extra sedation, eat a fatty meal (I like 1 tbsp peanut butter per 600mg gabapentin or 200mg lyrica.) eat the peanut butter 10 minutes before you dose it. This is not a dangerous potentiator, but assess tolerance without it first and use it instead of upping your dose and see if you can get by on fatty meals + some gabapentin or pregabalin instead of taking more medication. The peanut butter will make all effects from the gabapentin/lyrica stronger, anxiolysis, sedation, etc. You may even be able to get by just using gabapentin and forego the trazodone, especially if you dose it an hour and a half to 2 hours before bed, so I'd try that first. Gabapentin should be an easy script for you to get for this situation and if it's not, switch docs. Lyrica will be harder to get but still very obtainable and while t is stronger, gabapentin is prefferred by many. Remember to start low and go slow and the LED, lowest effective dose is best for you and the script. Feel free to DM me about this if you need more help. I have some experience.

The sleep pattern you described was exactly my sleep pattern that lead me to ask my primary care doctor for a sleep test. It showed I had a blood oxygen level that dipped into the low 80s, so I got a cpap machine. It has truly changed my life for the better once I found the right mask for me.

Aggieguy's picture

Well music helps me so if i can get my mind to just enjoy some relaxing sounds then I can sleep more and sometimes I take a sleep aid. Testosterone and some other gear make it so I only sleep 4 to 5 hours anyway and usually I am ok. Sometimes it just requires me to take a nap during the day.

I used to wake up all the time throughout the night and have played around with lots of combos. DSIP didn't do anything for me, caffeine timing helped slightly but not a game changer to me. Currently I run 30mg melatonin (20mg ER and 10 IR), 5iu GH nightly, 5mg Nebivolol after heavy CNS load workout days (back and legs), cut off liquids at 6pm, in bed by 9, asleep by 930, and I have been sleeping better than ever before.

Trazodone. Works like a charm for me.

I got some from my doctor and it knocks me out but doesn't keep me asleep unfortunately. Also can leave a hangover.

I've been testing DISP @100-300mcg before bed, I do feel extra rested when I wake up, even if I haven't slept a full night. I really need to wear my watch and let it track my sleep to get some actual data other than feel.

Try 2iu gh before bed. I generally sleep very well, and can get back to sleep with no issue, I also wake up to urinate at least once, and I'll never fall back to sleep unless I do. My job has us toned out multiple times a night so getting back to sleep quick is pretty pivotal, do your best to clear your head of anything stressing you out before you hit that pillow.

Hgh. No TV, Facebook etc 2hrs before bed. Hops valerian root combo cap if it's really bad. Anything static will keep you up.

Whatcha mean by anything static jock? Genuinely curious

Bro, once pumping Steroids your sleep will become all over the place in general. I often wake up after 2.5 hrs and have the RTD protein shake next to my bed on the table then go back to sleep. Wake up between 4 and 5 hours then get up to eat (Cheese on Toast or Chicken Samosas etc lol) Ice cream, Babybel etc and EAA's then back to sleep. Will wake up probably 2 to 3 more times and stay in bed then finally get up properly. Workouts can affect this too - If its after deads I will wake up every hour its crazy sometimes, often once I am not training and not eating as much therefore then I can get a solid 8 hours with no wake up - but its rare. Gear ramps up your metabolism and seems to affect REM sleep also. Single most effective thing I find helps with staying asleep and falling asleep is drinking a protein shake with not too many carbs in as it will also cause an Insulin spike and lower your blood sugar. Plus as Everyman should already know - Blasting one out on Daily Bitches helps the soul relax and drift away, thats what its there for matey!!!

Youre and animal press! I couldnt live that schedule lol.
Waking up the misses for a quickie certainly can help too ;)

press1's picture

Mate no joke - when I ran high Tren I use to have to get up 3 times during the night to eat. Every few hours my stomach acid would be so high that I had to eat to absorb it all. Granted I was at my strongest doing it like this but man I felt like the living dead all day every day. No way would I wanna be like that now lol If you can do it, then you will get better gains if you get up to eat during the night as it keeps you more anabolic, the fasting period becomes 4 hours instead of eight hours effectively. A lot depends on your lifestyle though and if you can factor it in or not.

Im doing 6mg slow release, I could try bumping it for sure, its cheap and safe

I’m in a similar situation. HGH didn’t really help me at all.

Dang... did it atleast make your skin and hair nicer?

ChokeHldCharlie's picture

As you mentioned I would try the DSIP. What do you have to lose.

Scrawny-to-not's picture

Hey fair point bro, its pretty cheap (45 bucks for 5mg here)

FlemDaddyKush's picture

If hgh is too pricey, get some mk677 to help you sleep.

Scrawny-to-not's picture

Worth a shot, I took it before and it made my prolactin go whacky somehow. But now that I have caber in the stash that can be avoided with likely a very small dose

FlemDaddyKush's picture

No, mk increases prolactin, usually in small amounts in people. You might be one of the unlucky ones that get a lot of it. I am one of the unlucky one with estrogen. My body just makes a lot for no reason. But yeah that caber will help.

Scrawny-to-not's picture

Bro im also an estrogen power house i feel you. Some people struggle with low e2 on 1:1 test to primo or eq, meanwhile I can push to 2x the eq than test lol
