+ 8 Someone enlighten me
Why do you tell these guys to stay away from salt or any sodium at all? I see it all the time, "get your diet dialed in, cut out salt". But again,...WHY? I really don't understand this logic unless the guy is headed to the stage in less than a week. Even more so I see this as ridiculous when someone who is over weight staying away from salt. What, do you think salt makes you fat? It's a Fucking mineral and an essential one at that! Are you kidding me? Salt doesn't make you fat. Sorry to burst your bubble! Stuffing your face all day and scarfing down huge crazy amounts of sugars and carbs makes you fat. Especially if you aren't active. Lets take a closer look at this salt thing because I for one can't function properly or at full capacity without it. I don't know about any of you but I do this to stay strong, fast, and durable for whatever life throws at me. Looking good is just a byproduct. It isn't the objective. So a fat ass walks into the exam room. His pressure is elevated (naturally,...he's a fat ass). What does the doc do other than pump him with all the cholesterol and bp meds his sponsor company is selling these days? He tells him to cut salt from his diet. Do you know why? Because it lowers your pressure. It has nothing to do with the fat on your ass or that you have consumed large quantities of salt over the years. It lowers blood pressure but this is how. When you don't take in sodium, you are not retaining any water. Or at least you are making your adrenal gland work overtime to produce sodium to help you retain some fluid and function normally. So the adrenals can't keep up with demand. What happens? The blood starts to thicken. Heart rate slows. Body starts slowly shutting down. Pressure drops because now your blood is like freakin aunt Jemima! So not only have you starved your body of precious water that it needs to function at a high rate (you are athletes you dumb shits,...you need the essentials more than average joe), but you are hurting your body in the process. So like i said, unless you have to make weight for a fight or you are getting on stage soon, there is absolutely NO reason anyone should be cutting salt out EVER! First thing in the morning, when I open my eyes do you know what I do? Of course you don't. I shovel down a teaspoon of salt and wash it down with a glass of water. That is before coffee. Before taking a piss. Before even getting up out of bed. I'll try and explain this in layman's terms. When you sleep your potassium climbs and your sodium drops. The ratio being so out of whack coupled with the fact that you aren't eating any salt, this is going to make you feel like you're just foggy, fatigued, inattentive, achy and a bunch of other things that are no good. So your body tries to counter by forcing the adrenals to produce aldosterone. But an already stressed adrenal gland can't produce the amount necessary. Sodium is removed from the blood and secreted through the urine. Now your adrenals are over worked. You no longer have their function for the day. You can forget it. You may as well chalk today up and "I feel like dog shit!". So by taking a spoonful of seasalt I am essentially making my adrenals work much much less and they repay me by giving me 100% throughout the day. What does that mean? Anything that arises I can handle and I can rest assured that my wits wont fail me, my fight or flight is working up to par and I have less stress hormones flowing freely. Also, drink plenty of water . If you are taking in salt and drinking water, you aren't going to balloon up like the elephant man. You are going to have adequate amounts of each and expel the excess through urine the healthy way. Which also helps clean your blood, liver and helps your body run at full capacity. I got a little deeper into this than I wanted to but I think it's important to discuss. PPl have the wrong idea about diet. Yeah you may look bad ass all dry and shit, but I don't envy how you feel. I know I am much healthier and in better shape physically than the salt less wonder. Until next time (i'll get into fats, especially saturated fats. yet another key ingredient they tell you to steer clear of), Peace!

i love salt. matter of fact i too once listed to the idiots who just parrot shit they think they know and i reduced salt. well what u know my potassium levels were very high and sodium levels very low. doc was looking into things and i didnt want to go with meds so i ate lotsof sodium for a month and wth do think? my potassium leveled off while also keeping my sodium in range. and the bit of adema i was getting from my cycle was gone.
i dont know about sodium or potassium loading or what ever and wont pretend to.
long live sodium!
thx for pointing this out nitti.
my opinion- I agree with nitti, im a dirty bulker and advise ppl to eat, I see ppl in here who have advised exactly what hes talking about, now all of a sudden they change there minds. sigh.
AnonIdf u are talkin bout me i will just say i never said cut out salt all together.. only reduce it... helps me in a couple different ways... but thats just me
Yall can do what u will.. blast away
lol bro not at you.
So true, I notice that in a lot of posters here, all it takes is a MOD tag and they commence the leg humping.
lets start going back through posts and copy and paste them so we can start a shit storm and trash this page too bro lmfao!!!!
By all means, show me. I'll let you expose frauds openly as long as you give them a lollipop and don't say mean things we should fly under the radar of the eroids Ministry of vice and virtue. Some guys get really bad vaginal cramping when someone calls them something that describes them fairly accurately. Like "douchebag, idiot, newb, brown noser, leg humper ,flip flopper, d*ck rider and such".
lmfao Vaginal cramping.
My wife had vaginal cramping once when I was inside. Thought I was doin it and doin it and doin it well!!
You represent queens but was raised out in brooklyn?
Lmao! At least SOMEBODY caught the reference...
lol, nah I think ill just keep it nice, plus don't want to trash your page.
LOL No man I don't think Nitti would like that too much, I'm sure these guys know who is doing it BUT we can start one in the off topic forum hahaha
lol.
Anyone who does or has done Intravenous therapy understands the make up of the fluid. The primary compound is sodium chloride, or in other table salt! The is given anytime the body has trauma and other illnesses so to the important need of the body to have proper sodium levels. I have had this more times than I can remember.

WHY TABLE SALT IS POISON
http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/salt6.php
I am a salt LOVER
Thanks for posting this. people need to stay away from TABLE salt not SALT. big difference
right now I have Hawaiian black and red salts
Pink Himalayan salt
Sea salt
fleur de sol
Kala Nayak
Applewood smoked salt
For breakfast I had Uncured, Fruitwood SMoked Organic Bacon. Red Lettuce, romaine, Goat cheese SMOKED SALT, green onion.
excellent point sumatra.. I m a sea salt person, love it.
Awesome post Nitti. Ive been dealing with guys for years telling me I need to stop eating salt and I try to tell em Im not worried about a little bit of subq water. Of course, these are the type of guys that have 14" arms, swingin the hell out of the 60 lb dbs. Gatorade made millions off salt by throwing in a few electrolytes and flavoring.
Billions- not millions$
Excellent post
Loved it
Anonwell bro
If i take in less soidium it makes a big difference in my water retention
And for some reason my bp seems to he better
But i agree and have preached a proper diet
But there again i never suggest cutting salt out
I just suggest reducing it when trying to cut water cause it works for me
But also if diet is shit reducing sodium is not gonna fix that
http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/salt6.php
I suggest you give this a read my friend!
AnonIf its a read about "you need salt" i know that we need salt... and i didnt say no salt... i said low salt
Too much salt is bad for anybody my friendツ
if you eat just 8oz of salt you will most likely die! LOL
Too much of anything is bad for you. Too much salt is bad just like anything else but salt isn't bad for you. As in you shouldnt be cutting salt out of your diet. It's dumb.
AnonRight.. which i never cut it out.. i only reduce it..And drink plenty water... i dont think i could cut it out... i mean could u imagine no.salt at all? everything would taste like shit.. theres a reason why we have sodium in our bodies... in my opinion its one of those things that too much or too little is bad for us.. it needs a balance that can be acheived with a good nutrition plan
Salt is very important for your health and well being, if you are eating properly AND healthy, there is no need to add additional salt to your diet as the foods alone will get you to the RDV and a little over. As far as myself and salt? I love salt, my body CRAVES it when I am nowhere near the proper amount in my body especially after a strong workout. I have been doing this trick for many years... i eat 2 pickles, that's right 2 pickles. The sodium content in that alone will put you more then halfway there. I also use Himalayan sea salt and italian sea salt only on my dinner table. When me and the wife go out to eat I bring my own salt with me.
Salt is very important to our bodies well being but stay away from processed box food garbage or you will blow way past the allowed sodium. Shit look at canned soups and canned vegetables. One serving in one of those is equal to 4 times your daily amount.
yes people worry too much about sodium and sometimes forget it is an essential electrolyte for your body. True an imbalance of too much sodium and not enough potassium can cause bloat. But if you are properly hydrated and get all the mineral and nutrients your body needs the body will balance itself out. Neurons and myocytes (muscle cells) have sodium channels that pull in sodium ions inside the cell. These are essential nutrients your body needs to function!!! Proper hydration is extremely important, if there is any imbalance and you are hydrated your body will flush it out!! Our bodies are pretty good at keeping things in check
NO table salt in my house...... sea salt yes! but i use that only once in a blue moon...... if we have a solid and varied diet rich in meats, dairy, (off season of course) fish etc etc etc... we get enough salt through that... add ing more is fkn pointless and tastes shit imo.
I know for sure it creates water retention with me due to sodium loading pre-comp... run in conjunction with the carb-loading process it uploads water into the muscles real fast leaving them looking full to bursting.
TRY THIS.. put some water in a cup and then add table salt and watch it hold 4/5 times its own weight in water..... imagine this in the body!...... nobody will tell me salt does NOT create water retention (edema)..... added water in the body just like GH symptoms with the numb hands etc.. this is caused by added water pressing against tiny nerves.... for those that like these sides keep sodium high (mad) for them that dont keep sodium low or within the recommended range.
Thats my 2 penneth on the sodium subject :))
AnonThank u
And agreed ±2
RustycanWhat's the benefit of the sea salt over regular table salt? I have BP issues already and I can remember checking up on the sea salt because I thought it was gonna allow me to give a little flavor to food but after turning the container around and reading the label, the sodium content was the same as the regular salt I compared it to, doing me no good
Read this for a quick overview ....... http://www.ener-chi.com/eating-unrefined-salt-benefits-our-health/
RustycanBooom! And now I know. Excellent fukn read. Thanks for the link Vike
You are welcome bro.... my RAM on my laptop screams at the millions of articles i have loaded up on this thing lmao!..... good job filing cabinets are "old hat" or i would need a fkn business unit for all this shit .
You are the exception here because you are one of the few ppl who are actually competing regularly. So I can understand why you don't want to retain water. But the benefits of salt can't be disputed correct?
No you are right brother... i was just giving my perspective as a competitor so we get a thread looking at the topic from different aspects of our varied sports.
I would like to add something to this Salt as well iodized salt is an important part of the minerals we need. A small mixture of Iodine was added to salt because we lacked the mineral in our body. Iodine is needed to promote healthy brain activity and cognitive function. Also A lack of Iodine can cause major thyroid issues among other things. Unfortunately sea salt does not hold this precious mineral iodine.
Now you can get to much of a good thing, to much iodine can cause serious problems as well!
They make iodized sea salt now. Unfortunately, that's all that I know about it. I use Lugol's Iodine from time to time, usually with elderberry extract, when I have a cold, based on my Dr's advice.
Very nice!
Two words: salt tablets...since i was 18 at 270 lbs in college the school paid nutritionist and trainers had us on salt tablets(nasty tasting bastards), to help us retain water and not cramp from the heat and intense training...and back then i couldnt keep the weight on...salt is glorious and essential!...im italian, i dont eat processed shit or fast food, i didnt know what ranch dressing was till i was in college and my roommate bathed in the shit.(salad dressing for us was extra virgin oil, salt, pepper, and vinegar and still is)..so im biased ...i still to this day eat alot of sea salt...i drink a shit ton of water and diet coke(sodium laden) so i need salt as to not piss out all of my electrolytes..the only thing that ever puts me out of shape is lack of exercise and eating too much(ever been to an italian holiday dinner fabulous tale of eating (need i say more).anyway i couldn't do life with out salt ...just saying i agree...
Actually, I don't think I ve ever told anyone to cut out salt and have in fact pointed out the lack of sodium as being the culrpit in water retention ;-) Do let's talk about eggs though please.. I can't eat enough of them yolk and all ;-) xoxo also lets talk about magnesium too ... and those epsom salt baths that are so important ;-)
Yes, egg yolks (saturated fats). Very critical. I go nowhere without some grass fed butter somewhere in my lunch bag. I blend it in my coffee. I put it on everything. It's loaded with fats. Great for you and makes you feel like $1million all damn day! Cognitive benefits are insane. Testing of a sleep deprived individual who consumes x amount of grass fed butter before cognitive function tests, exceed the test results of the person who slept 8 hours but does not feed the brain (specifically the prefrontal cortex). Feeding The brain makes the body happy. The brain tells it "All systems go!" So it can concentrate on doing it's thing with our training and protein heavy diets. Another thing saturated fats do. They help to build healthy cell walls and are key components of cellular development. So they tell you to stay away from saturated fats as if they are nothing but horrible for you. And the stay steer clear of salt. So now you feel like shit, probably look like shit and I'll bet anything it shows in your performance. Anyway, that is another talk for another time
So I finally tried unsalted butter in my coffee........ it was okay.......... I think that coconut milk (to me) tastes a lot better. Have you tried it yet?
And don't get me started on the new "I am allergic to Gluten" fad that's going on, all of a sudden everyone is also allergic to Gluten; the same thing they grew up eating all the time in massive amounts mind you.
actually, it is not the same as what they grew up on .. the issue isn't gluten either.. the wheat has been genetically modified over 76 times so that it no longer resembles the wheat flour that my grandmother and mother used to make bread with.. and the biggest issue is that no one has stopped to see if this genetically modified so called wheat is even healthy for us to intake. For quite a few people it is not, it causes internal inflamation, allergies, etc... the new wheat today is garbage.
Grass fed butter guess I will Google it
I will try butter in my coffee...............never even thought of it.......... if you try coconut milk in yours............. taste exactly like heavy cream, if you get the good kind, if you get the cheap kind it tastes horrible. Great way to get your MCT's.
MCT is EXACTLY what I'm Talkin about when I mention grass fed (has to be grass fed) unsalted butter. Only unsalted because it's blasphemy go put salt in coffee. But try Kerri Gold unsalted grass fed butter. Add it to your coffee. Blend it and it gets this frothy consistency. Nothing like you'd think. So a couple tablespoons of the GF butter with Sea salt first thing in the morning and your body will function at an amazingly higher rate. The cognitive benefits alone are fucking fantastic. You just feel clear and confident. Focused! But the bigger deal to me is I don't crave garbage foods. Why do we have cravings? Our bodies telling us we are lacking something. No cravings for bullshit, makes me eat cleaner.
MCTs are a great way to start off your morning because they function in providing energy better than other fats and they do not spike your insulin levels. It's those spikes that create cravings for most people. I don't have that brand but I do have some high-quality butter I will give it a shot.
And you are absolutely right fats are very important for brain function and brain development ( for those still developing).
And even though as a society we consume probably way too much fat in reality 98% of the population is malnourished when it comes to that consumption because they consume the wrong types of fats.
But I can go on with this forever I should probably stop. lol
Glad you mentioned unsalted, lol. I was thinking man that's some hardcore shit. So if you already have salted is it still just as good for you? Say like a couple tablespoons or whatever on some whole grain bread of the morning?
