LIFTING WITH A HERNIA?
so while working i sprouted a hernia right above my right ball. Now it looks like i have a third ball up in my stomach. Its not too bad but when i blow my nose or take a shit it kinda pops and feels less than nice. I got a truss belt that has been helping but its not a permanent fix. When I lift its not really bothered, I have been able to even move heavy things without a problem with the exception of abdominal strain. I guess im just looking for thoughts here... can i lift lightly until my surgery, should i stop entirely because of the risk of my intestines shooting out of my peehole or what? Im getting the surgery but it wont be for a while so id like to keep lifting and working as much as i can as long as its not going to make things worse. ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS?

WOW great info people. Thanks a million. I feel a little better about everything. All responses were super helpful. THANK YOU EVERYONE.
That's why you're here and we're here....this is some kind of PAH-TY!!!!
YES!!!! I have experience with a hernia...I still have one, left inguinal. It's very small though and the doctor told me he didn't recommend surgery because it actually wouldn't even help. I guess I got lucky...I got it from doing skullcrushers of all things several years ago. Man, I strain and push and lift and still squat heavy, over time I have gotten used to it. Mine is about the size of a thumbprint, average man thumb that is. How big is yours?...and if a doctor recommends the surgery, I would do it. My doc knows about me weight-lifting and he told me not to worry about it till it got bigger...he even said there is a chance that it might not. Ever since I stopped thinking about it so much, it doesn't hurt or anything...weird, like psychological warfare. Like was mentioned though, it's okay to test the waters...I did for a long time before I got reassurance. NO ONE knows your body better than you!!!
I would just test the waters and see what lifts you can do without aggravating it. I had surgery on an inguinal hernia(same location) back about 8 months ago. I quit lifting but only cause my job was already strenuous enough on my body. It took me several months to get in for the operation, and by that time i had to basically hold my intestines in all day. As soon as i took my hand off there they were. So be careful bro you don't want to make it any worse than it is. I also got the mesh patch.(leaves a nice scar)
I also have had two,one the exact same as the one u are speaking of.Unfortunately I had to deal with mine for a very long time due to the fact that post surgery I could not work for 6wks.(drywall hanger)and having 4 kids, not working was not an option.I did continue to workout on a regular basis but only with increased pain, discomfort, and restriction to my routine which I doubt is on the same level as your training(meaning im sure ur workout is more serious) but it can be fixed laproscoptically which was an easy post surgery, hardly any pain and was good to feel normal again.u know ur body better than anyone so u know best.Just don't wait too long bro,it gets very painful and uncomfortable.
Currently on waiting list for an operation on the inguinal hernia in my groin, hospital reckons i will be in Sept or Oct at very latest.
I aggravated mine back in April when deadlifting heavy and the lump popped out! At that point i could push it back in and it would stay in for a while but any strain/cough etc and it would make an appearance!!
I have carried on training with a hernia truss, which i then strap on tighter with a neoprene belt, and other than deadlifting i trained as normal.
Last week front squats caused the hernia to tear a bit more and now i know about it!!!
Now training a bit more sensibly, flat bench is out of the question, standing OHP has gone, and the worst one surprisingly for me was any form of tricep pushdown. Still managed to back squat this week but have reduced reps considerably!
In my long winded way i am trying to say that yes, carry on training, but maybe do it a bit more sensibly than me !!! You will soon "feel" what is an acceptable lift and what isnt!!
Had 2 man, on both sides. I now have mesh in there so I hope I NEVER have to experience that again. You don't want that thing to rupture lil bro, that could cause life threatening issues!!! I hear they can repair those through laparoscopic surgery now, with me they sliced me open like a piece of bacon.... sucked ass!
