I did it this time..

ad

Soo back in March I posted a forum about a injury in my shoulder. I went to the doctor he did a basic examination told me to stop using it for awhile and slowly ease my way back into my normal routine, I did that. Then in may I was experiencing twitching in the arm same arm as the injury, the twitching stopped and I went on about my life. Mid June the pain comes back worse than before so I go into the doctor again he does a full exam and finds a partial tear in my rotator cuff.... he says that after surgery it could take up to 6 weeks to fully recover and even then I should take it easy.

My question is has any went through this and was there an alternative to surgery other than GH which is what all my buddies seem to be suggesting. I'm taking Alot of time off from AAS because I wrnt really hard on drug usage for a year and some change. I'm talking to a specialist thursday of this week to talk about options but as of right now I can't do anything with my upper body. I've been doing legs and cardiovascular since I found out.... I'm not going to lie I'm a bit scared and I'm wondering if anyone had any advice they could give.

Thanks guys!

hey brothers giving a quick update

i have decided to get a couple more opinions so i have scheduled 2 new appointments with two different doctors and based on the three opinions i get i am probably going to choose to go under the knife. i know its hasn't been that long but i feel as if the pain is getting worse and worse and i cant do it anymore. everything i do in life involves some sort of lifting from hobbies the gym and my career. i think this is the best option for me at this time

thanks for all the support i have gotten from you guys its always appreciated!

Thank you for the update, and stay positive (best possible, of course) cuz negativity effects our bodies in fucked up ways. Keep us posted via this thread, please! I'm rooting for you.

Pain management doc can pump that joint full of a mixture of cortisone and lidocaine with some other compounds mixed in. Does my shoulder and back wonders. Every 6 weeks.

Catalyst's picture

If your doctor is injecting cortisone into you every 6 weeks he is a fking idiot. He should probably read how cortisone works a little more before he's on the end of a major law suit.

robxl12321's picture

thats what im saying i asked about it at my physical therapy session and they said you can only do it max three times a year. every six weeks seems dangerous that doctor should have his license pulled. im think he had a typo theres no way thats what he meant

I'm getting the cortizone ladacain injections in the lower back, doc says no more than 3 in an 18 month period, not sure who regulates this protocol , maybe ins?....or the time for the meds to clear the system....it's keeping me away from the surgeon tho, already been thru surgery once.
Good call on the oxy 10...those can b a bitch to Taper off of....

robxl12321's picture

yeah thats what i mean i thought it was every 3 to 6 months

It's an uphill battle. I've been there with a shoulder injury. I've nursed my left shoulder for years back health it fucked me up bad when I was competing and putting it under pressure. I had cuff issues , born that way, did alot of rotator work. Have to take it one day at a time. If you fuck around and go Hamb at the gym and really trash it your going to be up shits Creek without a paddle with a hole in your raft my friend. Stay on point and don't do something stupid. Get your shit back 100% and the muscle will come back when you get back in the gym.

robxl12321's picture

i know man, im not going to fuck around with it. its just kind of shitty to watch yourself shrinking lol ive pretty much lost my appetite thinking about this shit even tho its minor right now its still bothering me. we all think were invincible when we are young

Update friends:

The specialist says that at this point I don't need surgery the tear is minor and he's confident that we can repair it without going under the knife and that my regular doctor in so many words is an idiot. I'm going to start physical therapy and I'm planning on using some GH in the process I know I said I didn't want to but I want to help the process along. Only thing that kind of wrecked my world is he wants me to avoid heavy lifting nothing more that 50 pounds (which still seemed like a lot due to the injury) I plan to still do lega and cardiovascular workouts throughout the week guess I'll just makes the wheels huge and get back at it when I can.

I am very lucky in my opinion to have the option to avoid this surgery if I play my cards right I'll be back to normal in no time (we'll you know what I mean) thanks for the support my muscle head family Smile

Dont' worry about the only 50lbs things. I herniated a disc badly last fall. I was told something similar. Any movement that compresses the spine to start back at it with just the bar. Thats what we did. You'll be surprised how quickly you'll be back at it. Take your pt seriously it's worth it, anything to avoid the knife brother.

I'm glad to hear that fella and yes if surgery can be avoided at all it should. Focus on your lower body and on cardio/metabolic conditioning. Not being able to lift more than 50lb may seem like a pain now but that weight will be increased as you go through your PT and is nothing compared to not being able to lift anything for months following a surgery. Good luck with everything and keep us posted.

robxl12321's picture

Will do dacky. I'm kind of excited to start this treatment the discomfort and dull ache has been going on for months now I can't wait for it to get better honestly.

Depends how bad the tear is. If it's anything more than very minor, you'll need surgery. Take it from a rotator cuff surgery veteran ;)

robxl12321's picture

This is what I'm talking to the specialist about. My doctor thinks it needs surgery and I really don't want to do it but I have to then I have to. How long did it take you to recover? After surgery I mean

Owes a Review × 1
Catalyst's picture

I severely tore mine, so 3 months in a sling, then another 3 months of physio before I could even move light weight. Probably 10 months before I was training with anything other than baby weights.

Looking on the bright side I got my calves to grow. Was all I could train...,,

Gh0st's picture

This^ Much more accurate than the 6 weeks recovery you mentioned in your post. You need an MRI before surgery. You didn't mention anything about imaging. The doc can't possibly know the degree of the tear without it and him saying surgery is an option prior to imaging makes me question his practice of medicine.

Owes a Review × 1
robxl12321's picture

No I had an mri that's what I meant by full exam he sent me to the hospital he works out of to get an mri he's says it's showing a partial tear on the subscapularis. Which is the larger of the muscle which is also why I questioned the short recovery time I was thinking somewhere around 6 months myself.

Owes a Review × 1
Gh0st's picture

Good to hear you had imaging done! Depending on the extent of the tear that will be the determining factor in your recovery time. Subscap tends to be an easier muscle to repair because the tendon is usually much larger than the other ones. IF it wasn't torn across the insertion. However it tends be a more difficult tendon to rehab because of the accessory muscle involvement involved with internal rotation. In my experience anyways (which is limited).

Subscapularis is exactly what I tore. Then I detached it, then I tore it again.....

robxl12321's picture

Damn cat you went hard as shit on that shoulder lmao

Catalyst's picture

I'd hope he has scanned him, but maybe not! Even with an MRI they really can't tell accurstely until they're inside with the scope.

6 weeks does sound "optimistic".....

Dacky's picture

That what happened to me. They said I had a bad tear from the MRI but when the went in there was nothing. I needed to have my subacromial space decompressed, a spur shaved off and my tendon showed up so it needed to be done but no tear. Took me at least 3 months to even start to get back to a reasonable level of strength and mobility with the shoulder. Has there been a tear there too I have no doubt it would have been longer.

robxl12321's picture

Currently what I'm doing. I have a 2 year old I can barely lift at the moment. Shit is terrible! So far from what I'm told is this is a partial tear so I'm hoping it's nothing serious like your situation

Owes a Review × 1
Catalyst's picture

Mine honestly wasn't that painful initially. When the surgeon asked me how bad it was out of ten I said three.

Just make sure if you do go under the knife if it's a decent surgeon. Cuff repairs are pretty fiddly so you need a competent surgeon, ideally one that's used to weightlifters / bodybuilders.

robxl12321's picture

Thanks for the advice brother I'll make sure I shop around before I proceed. I still have to talk with this "specialist" Thursday see exactly what the damage is and what we need to do. Thanks again bro!
