+ 2 High Karma Does NOT mean someone is more knowledgable

ad

I just wanted to point out the ridiculousness of this karma system. I get it, People who post good info get karma, and that is great, But what about the people who just get karma from pictures they post. What makes them an authority of gear? I think that Karma should only be given from thread posts. That way people can focus on what really matters - Good quality information. Not who spends the most money on gear. It seems crazy to me that someone can get upwards of 200 karma points almost exclusively from pictures they post. Does anyone agree with me, or am I being crazy? Please chime in...

VIKING EVOLUTION's picture

Hmmmmm........... karma points!, the stuff of nightmares for some.

I have been training for a while and used a little bit of gear, then i come and share my findings and experiences on here with guys that are hungry for input and then booooom...... the points jump up, do i lead guys down the wrong path.. NO........... thats positive karma brother and thats the theory of its planned use on this board.

Have i had lots of points for self-pics..YES.. reason = PEDIGREE brother!... the guys appreciate on here, and like the man (or woman) that walks the talk.. not the guy the spiels bullshit all day long and then posts a pic and looks like the base of a cake mix .

This thread needs a group hug.

The issue isn't the karma system, it's your incorrect perception of what it means.

gensolomon's picture

The Karma system is design not only for knowledge but also participation, While pics don;t = knowledge obviously but it shows that the member is being more active around here which collectively is what you want on a site like this.

Promotes discussion and activity. If members obtains high karma he has been active and whether he knows it all or knows shit, he at least is showing participation and activity which counts for a lot more then guys who complain all day long about karma, who have little cause they contribute fuck all around here.

Thats my 2 cents

alwaysmassive78's picture

I've got 30 something karma, I review most orders, don't post a load of pictures, but to be honest I don't worry about karma. Down below you've got rusty, catalyst, the flash amongst others who have high karma, they talk a fuck load of sense, so however they got it, they deserve it. Listen to the advice they give, check out how they look into stats before doing so, see how they help the community as a whole. You are correct, an endocrinologist could join today and know a lot more than most, does that mean he should be given 1000 karma to start? Has to be a system whether you like it or not. Would I like a load more karma? Not really cos then I'd get more PM's asking for advice!

TheFlash85's picture

whinge whinge fkn whinge.

worry about your account, your goals and your karma, thats what matters, if you want more, earn it, get in the forums and help others.

good luck.

Knowledgable as far as what! Every member has their own strengths and uniqueness! Some members are gifted in being educated and experienced on anabolics and advanced stacks! Others on meticulous diet and contest prep! Some members can read bloods and troubleshoot issues! While others can read mass specs and recognize whether or not a product is bunk! Some members are gifted in assessing a physique and can advise what body parts need fine tuning!
Point being, this is a community of specialists, each gifted in their own area of expertise! Everyone's unique talents are brought to the table!

Gauge the individual. There are people with low numbers who know what they're doing and people with high numbers who know fuck all, guys who are good at parroting etc etc. Like I said gauge the individual bro period. Pics also speak a thousand words many have more gear pics than brains while others have more self pics than anything. Than there's guys with minimal pics and high numbers, got to make sure they got them for saying something intelligent not just being a fucking comedian. Stick around long enough and its easy to tell the difference and figure out who's who.

Pale's picture

And if you see a red tag it is either Mod, Guru or pro. These people are gods and above the rest. ;)

Karma means everything....go post pics and get some. ;)

Dickkhead's picture

You can't tell anything just by karma. We all start out with 0 or 1 karma. So a great guy could be new to the site and just has not been here long enough to accumulate any karma.

I do value my karma and I spent a lot of time helping people out answering a lot of questions to get it. Whether they liked my answers or not is not reflected in the karma LOL.

It won't take you long to figure out where to go to get your questions answered and who is good at what.

I'll add this for what it is worth. The high karma guys that spend a lot of time doing forum work and cycle log work are solid. Read their responses and judge for yourself, of course.

kodiakGRRL's picture

pshhh I am obviously smarter than you Abaxen .. see how many points I have ;-) lol

I have a huge stash and I get other people to post pictures for me ;-)

Catalyst's picture

I earned my tag the hard way. I had to collect 12 tokens from the back of breakfast cereals packets then post them off to BFG. While we're on that subject I was supposed to get a real life "EXP" badge too. I've chased it at least three or four times and he keeps telling me "out of stock". I'm calling SCAM :(

Engineereddisaster's picture

....the hard way..cracker please. I would take token collection any day over the unspeakable things I had to do in the eroids van for tread and Vike.....I still can't look at myself in the mirror.

Catalyst's picture

That's the old days when you had to "take one for the team" just for a level 2 tag. Those were dark, dark days. I said I'd never talk of them again.....

Engineereddisaster's picture

Amen brother. There are somethings many members here are lucky to not understand.

irongame427's picture

It's hard to really know man. You see guys with exp tags in in the si all day but you've never seen them in the forums or cycle logs once and have never made a post that reflects there expert status. Fuck a lot of times you'll see si posts from these guys making them seem like they know nothing. Then you click on their profiles and see they have no forum posts and 4 pages of huge orders of gesr pics an all their si buddies giving them tons of points for each picture and that's how they got the Exp tag.

But at the same time you may see another guy with an exp tag and tons of karma that you've never seen around before but in reality he's been on the site for years and spent years in the forums helping and just got burned out answering the same questions over and over again or just doesn't have the time in his life at the moment to be active like he once was.

Then like a few other guys stated there's guys on here with no karma that know more then most members on the site, not everyones interested in the forums and becoming part of the community..

Bottom line is not all exp and adv tags are created equal. It took me a few months when I first got on the site to figure this out. You just have to be smart about it and figure out who's who on here. Don't place an order because you see a bunch of high Karma guys talking up the si, those are the ones I usually avoid. Do your research on the sources, check the forums see who's posting solid info, and maybe send them a pm and ask they're thoughts on a particular source, or eho they have had success with etc. it's tough, I remember when I first got on here sending a pm to a lvl3 or something asking for some input on my cycle and the advise I got was horrible. Thats when I figured out what youre now figuring out.

Engineereddisaster's picture

You'll see as you spend more time around this place that there are six types of eroiders. 1. Those who hate karma because they don't have it.
2. Those who have karma but don't deserve it.
3.Those who have karma and do deserve it.
4.Those who bitch about those who have karma because they think they deserve it but don't. Because they don't do shit around here.
5. Those who can't count well enough to know if karma is a good thing or not.

It's up to you to figure that shit out. Labels, tags, all of it doesn't mean shit if you don't have confidence in the person giving it. Just like life..take our president, arguably the most powerful man in the free world, but got the job with the management resume equal to that of a Burger King crew chief. 8 years and we don't have shit. Can I get a hell yeah from the Obama haters?
Do your homework. I think tags give you a good place to start but you have to look. What has he or she posted in the forums? Is it solid shit that sounds like they know what they are doing? Hit the track button, are they spending time helping and learning in the forums or are they spending time sucking cock in the SI's for free gear? Look at the age and stats of the poster..could give you a good idea right? There really is no way to really get a good feel just by karma. You have to take every thing in to account. I have posted more forum topics on eroids than anyone on this site. I don't have a single karma point for pics. Am I the greatest? No. Not even close. Sexiest? Absolutely. We have had pros on here with official pro tags and from what I've seen rarely do they help. For the most part they are whores for the gear with of course a few exceptions like the late Viking.
Spend some time, do your homework, contribute only in areas that you feel like you are qualified to contribute and you'll do really well here. It's not that difficult.

irongame427's picture

I wasn't around for some of the pros from 3+ years ago but when Phil was around he was glad to help via pm, but he was the only one. And Viking also even with his mod duties would take the time to send me very long responses to my pms and have long convos with me. But you're right about the rest you don't see them do anything good around here. But as Gearhead said what do you mean when you say " the late Viking"? You don't really mean...

Dickkhead's picture

Ed, "the late Viking?" I know he was very very sick but do you have information that he really passed away or are you just using that as a figure of speech because he hasn't been around?

Engineereddisaster's picture

Nah, just speaking figuratively. You can't kill a guy like Vike, come on!

Pale's picture

If he did he is now in Valhalla having mead and partying with the rest of the warriors.

humpnpump's picture

Karma karma karma karma karma chameleon
You come you go
You come you go

Ok you can stop dancing now IFit

Catalyst's picture

Lmao. We're showing our age remembering that one ;)

At least the op got karma for a post about the ridiculousness of the karma system......

zeusmarada's picture

@Catalyst, a friend asked me, "do you remember when you first pushed 135 (a plate per side)?" I replied, "hell yes! Freshman year, Pearl Jam had just released TEN and I jumped up from the bench and yelled along with Evenflow, "thoughts arrive like butterflies!!!" Yup. Knocking on the door of 40 and grateful for every revolution around the sun I've had so far. Hoping for another 40 more good ones, too. Cheers!

cdyrdes's picture

Then it's up to you who's full of shit and who's advice you should take. It's not hard to figure out who actually earned that tag and number by helping numerous people I can name a few right off and it's actually harder to get karma now than it was a few years ago (been here 2) .

Gymjunkie01's picture

When people speak and you hear what comes out of there mouth you can tell instantly if that person deserves the karma they have. I know guys that have under 50 karma that know more than most people here. He chooses to keep to himself mostly so I guess my point is judge a person by his words not numbers

My karma is very important to me.

Just the other day, I was at the bank getting change for $100 bill. When I told the teller my Eroids karma score, she gave me back $101.73. The ladies in the bakery at the market are so in awe of my score, they give me 13 doughnuts instead of the regular dozen they give the losers.

I try to stay humble about my huge karma. I was gonna get one of those rad air brushed tee shirts at the mall with my karma score on the front, but I settled instead for a small tattoo on my neck, i.e. CDXCVII.

It's hard when people ask me every single day about my huge Eroids karma. The say, "NWA, how did your karma get so huge?" I just smile and shake my head. I promised Darth Pale I'd never kiss and tell.

kodiakGRRL's picture

If I could give you Karma for that .... I would ;-)

CBBurrr's picture

no matter what your karma, if you give bullshit advice you will get called out by someone who knows better.

The guys that have several hundred karma may not be experts, but they have probably been around long enough to know the basics, and know better than to give hack advice.

I've got no problem taking advice from someone with low karma, as long as they present themselves as knowledgeable.
Oly, your user name alone leads me to believe you probably have some good insight on how to get strong.
