+ 2 High Karma Does NOT mean someone is more knowledgable

ad

I just wanted to point out the ridiculousness of this karma system. I get it, People who post good info get karma, and that is great, But what about the people who just get karma from pictures they post. What makes them an authority of gear? I think that Karma should only be given from thread posts. That way people can focus on what really matters - Good quality information. Not who spends the most money on gear. It seems crazy to me that someone can get upwards of 200 karma points almost exclusively from pictures they post. Does anyone agree with me, or am I being crazy? Please chime in...

Oly, your user name alone leads me to believe you probably have some good insight on how to get strong

Does that mean when you need advice on chics you 'll hitting up manwhore?

CBBurrr's picture

I did get some advice from a manwhore on another forum, it lead to some sex acts with the wife that I had never done before.....
the rest is probably TMI

kodiakGRRL's picture

lmao ... you are right any more would be tmi

cdyrdes's picture

We need a regular "like" button for these comments almost like spacebook

kodiakGRRL's picture

yes but that would evovle into "if you agree .... hit the like button" kind of posts and then I would have to stab myself with my pencil

Tough to effectively control. Scumbags will find a way to exploit any system. Has to come back to personal choice on what posts/members to take seriously. It has been this way since the beginning of anabolic steroid forums. Must always sift through trash to find good info...back then it was post count that was the first indicator, which of course is ridiculous lol.

Understand the potential for newcomers to be led astray, but they/we must understand...this is the internet, therefore ALL profiles must be questioned.

Goog advise is good advise, regardless of " karma " and vice versa. If dudes are on here following someone s advise soley based on karma or whatever tag they have , sorry but that is purely lazyness and they are risking their health and safety and shouldnt be in this game. Just my .02

It's a lot harder to get points now than back when this site started. Mods are way stricter on people up voting eachother or karma whoring.
You can often see your point illustrated when a karma 1 gives some really smart advice... You click their profile and see they are brand new to eroids. Some people who just lurk on here are smart as fuk and really active on other boards

Brother I agree with u for the most part, but its hard for new guys. I jumped on a source when I fielrst started because it had a bunch of high karma guys and some good reviews. Only after they closed shop with everyone's money did the " I told ya so's" start coming out. I guess I missed the early warnings and honestly, at that point being new, thought karma meant something great. Not always as cut and dry for new guys. Eroids is a great place but kinda like a new school. Gotta learn the lay of the land so to speak

Yea buddy! It doesn't take long to figure out the guys who are actually here to help verses the ones here to benefit themselves... Like when I see that Rusty guy on an SI, I'm like awwww shit! J/k brother, have a great day!

Hi rusty!! Smile been a while... Hope all is well

The only fixable problem I see really is the expert tags. Points are pretty meaningless I think we all understand that but there are some "experts" around here that really don't know shit. Expert tags should have some approval process like the pro tags. Karma is really just site participation, nothing more than that.

OlyLifter's picture

Ya. I agree. That is really more so what I mean by a problem. The Expert Tags.

Ulaw's picture

and the ADV tags too right? We should just do away with all of the tags...

I just wanted to let you know my opinion... I am a Law Student, I don't have time to peruse the forums looking for topics to comment on. I just happened to stumble across yours on the homepage and it caught my eye (congrats). If i want info about a cycle or gear help I have a select few users I contact. I found them through the SI of many of the suppliers... The SI's pages don't allow Karma boost. I THINK THAT IS A HORRIBLE PROBLEM. great info is given nearly everyday on some of these SI's. On that note, If i make a purchase and it is successful, I may put up a picture... Not to get karma, but to inform the community of a good sale and to buy with confidence... While i cant guarantee their order will go seamlessly, I can give my opinion based on experience. Anyway... I'd like to see what other more established members (with high karma) have to say about this... I've favorited this thread and will continue to watch it.

CAhardcore's picture

You used to be able to rack up points in the SI... But the mods found people teaming together and upvoting each other like crazy. You also could rack up 25 points for a funny post ... It's actually much harder to get points now

brandoc84's picture

I remember a few years back a guy posted a pic of himself grilling steaks. I don't remember the exact # but he had like 7 karma bumps, lol. It was getting ridiculous for a while there. It has since tightened up a bit.

Ulaw's picture

damn that was before my time.

shawn0712's picture

Unfortunately there's a lot of bad advice given in the si's as well. Sometimes without regard to who it's being given to.
With some of the fanboy and brotherhood mentality stuff that goes on in the si's, karma would probably end up being an even bigger issue.

Ulaw's picture

No ShIt... I forgot about all dem fanboys who will just upvote whatever a source or someone says... Ya, i guess my suggestion is pretty shitty lol... Sorry I Tried!

dudebro's picture

Yeah you're right and I'm pretty sure that's why they disabled it on si.

Goose24's picture

And your point?.....

OlyLifter's picture

let me give you an example- I saw someone make a post that showed their stash and it had over 30 likes, that 1 picture brought them more than half way to level 1. If they post another picture they will be level 1, then you know what happens, they go on the forum or si pages and start spewing info that isnt true nor relevant, but mainly bro-science, but because they have a high karma, people will view it as true. I just dont think its a good thing to have karma be effected by photo uploads.

OlyLifter's picture

my point is shouldn't knowledge be rewarded more so than wealth or disposable income?
