+ 1 Form is Key
Back in 1998 at 26 trying to impress some girls I never saw again I squated 495 with bad form, the 3rd rep made my back pinch, the next blew my back out. I had to get carried out by 2 trainers I knew. The ride to the hospital was the longest 3 miles I ever drove. I was laid up for 10 days before I could stand upright. and 8 weeks before I could train normallly. Here we are 14 years later and as they say once you throw your back out you are never the same again. This morning at 5 am I did it again, just twitching the wrong way. This is the 3rd time since 98 that I Fd! my back up. I am out of work until Monday minnimul. The gym two weeks starting with light weight. From past experience I will not be fully recovered for at best 4 weeks. This story is for the newbies because if I never did back in 98 what I did, I wouldn't be laying here in a bed having to crawl on my hands and knees to take a piss. Fuck the weight it is all about form that's how you grow. If you want your muscles to grow then leave the attitude at the door and work those muscles like they should for maximum bloodflow by form. I hope this helps some of those bad form people out there because there are more of them then the good form people. FORM IS EVERYTHING!!!!

So,So TRUE. I threw my shoulder out trying to impress guys and girls in the gym watching me back in 1998. Military press, behind the neck. My spot was to busy lookin at some chicks and The weight dropped, behind the neck. It was only 185 pounds but back then I only weighed 150 and ripped.
I was tryin to show out and my spot was not payin attention. I healed, but just recently I tried showing out again with military presses in the front, using a rack. I was on AB'S test prop as a kikstart and my stregnth climbed too fast. It was my fault I put 205 on the bar and repped it for 6 with good form. Everyone in the gym was looking. So, I put 225 on like a dumbass. I was only repping 190 before the prop for 6. My tendons couldnt handle 225 but my muscle could.
Make a long story short, I no longer can do my favorite exercize...Military Presses.
That sucks brother, unfortunately people like us have to learn the hard way. I hope you recover and our stories will make some people think twice.
Very true man,Im sorry to hear about your injury.I popped my wrist benching last year and the wrist went when the bar was just above my chest and guess what,I had no spotter on that day.I had to give everything regardless of the acute pain just to get it back on the stand and my training is still affected today.Every time I train I have to use wrist supports and my left arm simply cannot curl as much weight as my right anymore. An expensive mistake but one I have certainly learnt from!
With you all the way brother! i popped two vertebra out years ago and never been the same since due to maniacal squatting wouldnt it be good if we could turn the clock back a little! i bet everybody on these boards has a twinge somewhere or other through bad form and egotistic training! i suppose it all goes hand in hand with our lifestyle i dont know anybody in my 35yrs in gyms that hasnt picked up some form of training related injury, like phil below says it does an make us all think twice before we start to load the plates on, moral here i suppose is stop, think, then execute!! injurys are a f-ing pain in the ass! anyways happy training guys and stay safe
phil113kgSorry to have read of your misfortune. Life has a funny way of throwing us obstacles. But it is good to know that you can learn and share what you have learned with others around you. I appreciate that and wish you the best of luck in your journey. I am sometimes one of those that sacrifice form for quantity when I get into that tear everything up mind set. I think we all been there time or two. Reading this keeps me in perspective and helps to reevaluate training principles. Thanks for sharing
Form is king. I see these young dudes back-lifting curls, ab-curling tris and the classic two inch fully loaded legpress all hoping to impress god knows who. I wanna say somthin but, ah they'll learn.
Got me the sciatica from bad deadlift style early on. Pinched that bad boy right in the joint. Still have to watch out whenever I reach up high for stuff. I bet most on here got one thing that twinges from bad early form.
DfizzleYup, fucked up two discs in my lower back in my teens trying to be cool n squat with a full cast in my broken right hand. Thought since I was doing legs the cast wouldn't matter. Turns out I needed that hand to help balance the bar. Live n learn.
Sorry to hear about your injury bro
56tooRight on bro. We all live and learn, just some pay a higher price than others. Good luck on your recovery
Thats eroids! if the younger ones listen then we can prevent this kind of injurie.Knowledge is key and wisdom comes with age. It sounds stupid but it's true. Thanks I will get better but always in the back of my mind will be (when and how bad)!!!
impress the ladies with just talking to them u see so many hot girls but how many guys do u see actually go and talk to them everyone stares once you actually approach and them you already impressed them no need for hurting yourself learned that years ago
Thats what I am talking about self confidence
Unlucky mate. Backs are the worst to injure. I don't bother trying to impress.
1 - I'm no good at it
2 - that will happen to me garunteed lol
3 - I don't notice people when I work out, I'm in the zone.
I nearly knocked someone's head off doing a side lateral raise. He invaded my space lol
This is definatly something everyone should take into consideration. I knew soneone who got a hernia from deadlifts. Hasn't lifted a weight since.
Just what I am talking about like you said (in the zone) be there for yourself. A bad injury will scare away the best of athletes. Don't forget I was young and stupid when this happened. Now I am middle aged with a half a brain. LOL
Ha ha I had and back for quite a while and it was so hard to work around. Luckily it's all good now. I had an epidural and I swear it did something bad. It took a 18 months to fully heal. Maybe it scraped a nerve. Ive heard a lot of bad stuff about the epidural.
No1I agree bro, but that had to be embarassing
Back in 98 they wanted to call the ambulance for me but it was 5 pm and 100people in the gym and there was no way I was going out in a stretcher. If you are a serious athlete,in any sport you will get injured it is just a question of when and how bad. This one fd me up for life over 2 girls that looking back was a weekend bang at best. Like I said leave the attitude at the door,be there for yourself and the rest will follow.
