+ 1 For the low SHBG crew

ad

In a bit to bore you all again with my useless contributions to this great website I wanted to share a topics which came up in my recent blood test and I’ve been reading up on.

My SHBG came up low and when I looked further into it I was surprised to find a lack of scientific studies. It’s a very broad subject and one that effects so much but what I can gather from it if you have low SHBG on TRT you’re more than lightly going to be suffering with hyperinsulinemia also (excess levels of insulin circulating in the blood relative to the level of glucose).

In light of my blood test, which also included my HbA1c numbers being very slightly raised I’ve switched my diet up to a high fat, high protein diet with low carbs - coming from veg, lentils, yoghurt and a small amount cluster dextrin intra-workout. Ditching rice, dextrose and most other starchy or quick acting carbs. With type 2 diabetes running in my family as you would imagine I’m keen not to end up walking around with a glucose monitor at all times. My plan is to retest and see if it’s improved and if I can start to reintroduce certain foods back into my diet.

There is also a correlation between low SHBG and hypogonadism which is so thing to take into account when you’re smart enough to take base line bloods, pre-gear usage and discover you have low SHBG which may mean you’re more lightly to not recover from cycling and TRT would be more of a possibility.

It’s late and trensomnia screwing me over so I took this opportunity to piece together my ramblings to see if anyone else had any information on this subject which isn’t mentioned much on here.

I also discovered injecting more often helps raise SHBG levels so my new TRT protocol will be Ed/eod schedule. Not sure why this is but it seems to be backed by bloods on many TRT forums so worth a go.

Many things regulate SHBG. Mine used to be always super high.

for me if I switch to keto SHBG goes up drastically. The same happens when I increase my thyroid hormones. When I add GH then my SHBG slightly falls.

Yeah it’s linked to lots of different things in the body and they’re all intertwined, cholesterol is another one which has an effect. High SHBG is common amongst TRT patients but low is a lot less common in lead to believe judging from how little information there is out there and seeing blood tests.

With its link to insulin sensitivity going on keto would raise its levels hence why type 2 diabetics are advised to go keto. I don’t know a lot about GH but I think it can increases the chances of being diabetic so again insulin sensitivity is effected.

As with our conversation over PM where you helped me with my diet it’s important to drop carbs and focus on healthy fats if your SHBG is low as this will mean there is less insulin floating around the body and improve IS making it less lightly to become diabetic.
