+ 5 ALCOHOL AND THE GYM
A lot of people found themselves tipping the bottle last weekend..... And I was not one of them... for the first time in 40+ years. That's because I finally grew tired of seeing hard-earned gains do down the tube.... tired of sitting in jail.... tired of having to pay lawyers to get me out of whatever jam I got into the night before.... tired of walking into the garage and trying to figure out why the front of my car is bashed in and how the pink thong panties ended up in the drivers seat (I don't wear pink... very often)..... tired of the depression that follows and the horrible feeling of having to puke while trying to give a presentation at work.
I finally got mad and just said FUCK THIS when I saw how other people were conquering the world while I was content to conquer Jewel Heist mission in GTA5.
Just a little advice for those of you who find yourself saddled with problems associated with the most damaging and destructive drug ever known to mankind:
NOT A SINGLE PERSON from the bar is your friend... not one. Don't ever be fooled into thinking they are. Your drinking may (and probably is) the result of your need for attention and socialization. Statistically, you're probably not an alcoholic---- you're a problem drinker. Being a problem drinker is often far worse in terms of consequences than being an alcoholic, and both are equally addictive. When you fix your need for approval, you'll be in a better position to fix the drinking. Trust me.. I've been there. I never drank when I was upset or mad... I drank on sunny days when the toys came out and I was in a good mood.... I could be the life of the bar. I was the guy with the cool car and the money and the muscles.
Once I fixed my self-esteem, 90% of my problems evaporated instantly..... including alcohol.
Try this little trick:::: Pretend you aren't you. Pretend you're an expert... a consultant who has been brought in to fix the mess you've created. The "expert" can be any person, real or imagined you want it to be.
Wake up every morning and immediately ask yourself, what would the expert do? What would YOU do if you were a hired gun brought in to fix the life of someone like you? I can PROMISE you, it's not going to be sitting on your ass watching You Tube videos of guys who are successful (because guys who are successful don't waste time doing that--- or video games--- or sit on bar stools all night--- or eat SHIT for meals... or.....)
You have a million choices every day.... start making the right ones beginning now.

Y'all got some crazy stories but I'm glad you guys are sober now. I think many of us had some problems with drinking at least for a bit. Mine wasn't so crazy I was just drinking a lot with this party girl I was dating at the time. I hardly touch the stuff anymore and when I do it's usually just a beer or two
300 SavageShit..at least you could find your car..I would wake up sometimes and be like. where the hell did my car went?
10 years sober now..and have not mis-placed my car since..life is now better and much much more easier on my self.. and all around me..the list of good things now a days goes on and on and on..........................
great post Gothic..
Awesome post brother. I've also had a hard road with addiction, alcohol and prescription. Honestly bodybuilding was the only thing that was able to pull me out of that. Even other hobbies I've had I could manage while being hung over or high/drunk etc. But bodybuilding and drunk/hung over do not mix and the lifestyle along with discipline is what pulled me away from it. Plus I really fuckin hated hangovers lol
I needed to read this, thanks
And I find at least one thing in everybody's comments that pertains to me .. glad I'm not alone-
Well said!
Ive said it before ill say it again! It comes down to growing a set of nuts. Just dont.
Nice post bro! I have allot of addictions but alcohol is not among them any more. I will admit that smoking was 10 times harder to quit then drinking.
I really needed this post man, thank you.
You make some good points here. I have years of substance abuse in the past and agree that it stems from deeper issues, many of which are based on self esteem and self worth. I have watched my brother sliding down the same slippery slope. Its tough to watch, especially since I know from experience that theres not much I can do. For the person to make a change they have to decide from themselves that they wanted to change and execute that change. As I have heard motivational speakers say before, "you cant make someone want what they don't what." The only help you can contribute it to help the person see they have a problem and then be there to help them when they decide they want to change their life.
An intrinsic factor of getting your track back on life is, isolating the yourself from the people that trigger your substance abuse or people that you engaged in substance abuse with.
Straight up brother... my brother was a heroine junkie and thought my drinking was nothing till he got clean and I still drink I just asked my wife last night if I quit drinking if she would not bring wine into the house and she said yes fingers crossed cause I drink way more then I should and have for 15 years old
I'm trying to kick this very bad habit to the curb and it's been an uphill battle. What I hate the most is reading my texts the next morning to my gf or friends and i'm like: "i can't believe all this crazy shit I've said to these people I care about"...FML
That is sooooo true bro
I cant believe the shit that came outta my mouth many uears ago when i was a everyday drinker
That's why I deleted any social media cause waking up going of fuck what stupid shit did I say gives me bad anxiety
Good post my man I'm slowly going down the quiting road I gamble, chew, smoked, and drink so far I quit smoking about 8 months now I don't buy 30 dollar scratch offs anymore once in a while I buy a 2 dollar Powerball ticket I still chew that's coming to end end soon and after that hopefully the bottle I can feel the alcohol hit hard now (turning 30 soon) and when I see posts like this it give me hope about that
I can relate to this post. Sounds like my 20s which were pretty much wasted. Finally got myself together at 30 when I learned that I had a child on the way. Now I allow myself 4 drinks per week off cycle, 2 per week when on. Typically they are consumed 1-2 when out to dinner with my lady. Getting drunk is not fun any longer. Hangovers hang around way to long at my age.
"It's easy to quit smoking... I've done it a thousand times" - Mark Twain
You gotta make that choice...every.single.day.
