AAS and cholesterol

ad

So, I've been silent for a long while. I was put on TRT about 9 months ago and with constant bloodwork I haven't ran a test cycle in forever. I did run some NPP a while ago when I got a call for bloodwork from the doc. I push it out about five days and drop the npp. I get my bloods back my cholesterol is absolutely destroyed. Good cholesterol in the tank and bad cholesterol near high. Doc thinks it's just the test that caused it so he drops my dose. How many of you guys monitor this kind of activity? My TRT keeps me in the four hundreds so I run a bit low and have been for a while. Not sure how much of that is test or if it is all the NPP. Haven't ran anything else since and the doc hasn't sent for bloods so I don't have any follow up bloods to let me know where I'm at.

Bro, testosterone (synthetic) is basically cholesterol molecules.

WhyNot's picture

Hormones in the body naturally are all made from cholesterol. Often times when the body is out of whack it tries to Overcompensate by producing more cholesterol.

I monitor my lipids every 2.5 months. AAS can be rough on the lipids when you are on TRT let alone if you blast cycles. If for no other reason strict dieting should be for this factor not just for outward appearance, Even still cholesterol issues are also hereditary as well as diet. I counter mine with very nigh mgs of fish oil as well niacin. but niacin at higher dosages can also mess with kidney function so it is a balancing act for sure.

If you do use prescription statins, keep in mind that they can and do break down muscle tissue and supplementing cq10 is a great counter to this.

I'm not on any prescriptions and what you pointed out is exactly why I don't want to be on any. I don't want to have to counter the drug I'm using to counter the drug I'm using to counter the drug I'm using.

Yes that is what it is a constant back and forth with certain preventive measures. That is why I choose the nutritional route as well. I don't know if you are use an AI but I have also learned that aromasin is easier on the lipids than arimidex.

I haven't needed an AI in while because I haven't ran anything in a while (other than TRT) but I do use Aromasin when I cycle. I prefer it over Adex. I'm gonna get some bloodwork done because I'm itching to cycle. It's been a long time and I've been maintaining my size and weight trying not to get too big because I don't want to scare off the doc.

I think everyone covered you well on all the things that can increase the good HDL and bring down your triglycerides. Before I blast I like having my ranges above normal because I know they will taken a beating even if i do everything right. The fish oild has made a big difference in my levels. Also a trick I learned because no matter what kid I got I always got that nasty fish burp and indigestion from them. Is to put the capsules in the freezer they past through the tract better and I have had no issues since. If you don't have that problem than you are g2g already.

WhyNot's picture

"I have also learned that aromasin is easier on the lipids than arimidex." This is absolutely true but it's on a case-by-case basis and does not hold for every individual. Having said that it's worth exploring if your budget permits.

Darktide's picture

Yes good addition it really is a case by case because some cannot tolerate aromasin. The battle to keep the lipids in check while being a aas user takes more research imo than it does a lot of other subjects.

WhyNot's picture

Sometimes medication is the only way to go. The body produces way more than we ingest so if something in the body Is off and it starts overproducing you know how some major problems.

In the OP's case I think it might be due to the fact that he has low testosterone. Hormones in the body have to be in the perfect balance for everything to function. Get your testosterone way to high and you have Cholesterol problems get it to low same thing.

Darktide's picture

very true only way to keep up on it is regular testing

WhyNot's picture

Absolutely I think if you are a TRT patient you should have quarterly bloodwork done.

My only real cholesterol source is eggs. I don't eat meat or drink milk. I want to avoid prescriptions if I can.

WhyNot's picture

Your body produces over 1000 mg of cholesterol Per day in healthy individuals. So dietary changes will only be partially effective.

Often times low testosterone will lead to lipid problems. 400's for TRT is still the low-end (even though the medical community sees it as normal). Take a look at the following link and start your research from their.

My recommendation would be to start loading up on fish oil as well as other oils that are known to be beneficial to the human body. You get what you pay for make sure you buy high-quality.
