+ 1 Is it worth taking Accutane if you suffer from anxiety and depression
ad
Hi guys
Ok so I suffer from anxiety and depression which I take 20mg paroxetine daily for. I was reading up on Accutane to combat my major oily skin as I read it somewhat dries the skin. I also read that at a low dose you don't really get the depression as much as someone who takes a higher dose. Have any of you guys had any depression issues while using a low dose and would it be worth running. The missus is complaining about me greasing her hair out and having to wash it every damn day haha
Thanks in advance

PcushionAccutane should only be used under a doctors supervision it requires monthly bloodwork.
Alphamale500Accutane and depression/anxiety don't mix. Especially mixing Accutane with an SSRI med like paxil. It can cause so many sides including suicidal thoughts. I would advise you not to take Accutane in your case!
accutane - isotretinone does dry up the skin baddly by removing the fat tissue under the skin, however, the 5-6 months of small nightmare by taking it, i mean, itchy skin, dry lips (witch can be healled by selecting correct balsam) might or will change the live for a long time, and yes its worth it if you are a man, not woman.
About Anxiety, in very rare cases it does give anxiety , the Acne itself gives anxiety so this side effect is added.
depends on your acne level, for 4-5 months take 40mg daily, splited by 20mg morning/evening. and then lower the dosage to 20-30 for the last month or two.
for shampoo, alphosil is very good to combat itchy/greasing hair
Dave_61I took it once, and personally I wouldn't take accutane ever again. Too many sides. I have oily skin all the time also. Salicylic acid works great for my skin. I use the stridex pads during the day when I'm in a rush, to clean my face, or I use rubbing alcohol to thoroughly clean my face, chest, and shoulders when I feel they need a real cleaning. I do make sure to use Lubriderm after I get out of the shower, so my skin doesn't get too dried out. Also, when I'm at home, or at night, I rub salicylic acid cream into my face and chest, and it works great. Even on high test.
I just bought some of that new Adapalene gel recently. I tried it, but believe it not, the salicylic acid cream actually works much better! It keep my skin clear all the time.
Are you saying you’ve got greasy skin on cycle? Or just in general?
Probably not and especially if not under the care of a doc.
I was on accutane twice as a teen and it was BRUTAL man. Def not worth it. I remember every month they’d do bloods and have to ask you about depression and anger and suicide. It intensifies all that stuff. Just my two cents, good luck.
CelestiaxI suffered from acne/oily skin/pizza face/etc and the doctor advised against Accutane because the side effects outweigh the benefits, it's especially harsh on the liver. So... Be careful since you're an AAS user. Did you go to a dermatologist? They often prescribe medicated body washes with benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid or clindamycin, and other creams/gels that target problem areas.
As far as your depression and anxiety, if you haven't already, tell your PCP to refer you to a psychiatrist and try psychological therapy in conjunction. I struggled for years, and various primary care physicians put me on every SSRI and SNRI you can think of, and none of it worked, to the point where I thought that I was just a damaged person and that there was no hope for me. Little did i know all i had to do was to see a psychiatrist. It took about 6 months of medicine and dose tweaking, testing, honest answers, and I was diagnosed with ADD, in addition to anxiety and major depressive disorder. My depression is at a very manageable level now.
Against anxiety I take Selanc , works wonders to me. I personally take 750mcg daily if needed.
I take proxatine and buspar for anxiety and depression myself I even have lazapran for panic attacks I understand your situation. If I were you i wouldn't take it is acne worse or is living in a dark hole depressed worse just get a good ance wash and shower everyday wash your sheets more often don't sleep in your shirt and change your shirt after working out you should clear up
KingsolverTbh mate the oily skin does t bother me the missus has the issue cus I make her fringe oily as fuck haha. Yeah your right it's definitely not worth it I'm gonna skip it. Thanks for sharing your experience with me. How do find the paroxetine?/it's worked wonders for me. I was unable to leave the house when I was at my worst taking panic attacks on department stores and everything. It gave me a new lease of life literally only downside is it makes me clench my jaw and lethargy but beats the hell outta living in fear.
I'm on week 5 of proxatine and it's finally kicking in nothing else has worked for me I love it I feel normal again
Hey man I was prescribed it by a doctor took it while I was a teen and to be honest it did dry out my skin but I still had my acne anyway. Also I did stop taking it because I remember it just making me feel weird and not myself. I guess it could have been a lil depression. If that’s the case then maybe don’t take it since you already suffer from anxiety and depression. So, to me it was not worth it. My acne eventually cleared up when I got older and started eating cleaner.
KingsolverHi mate
Thanks for the tip. The more I read the more I'm definitely against using it. Ill suffer the oily skin or the missus will have to suffer it lol. Definitely doesn't sound worth it . Thanks again dude for sharing your experience.
No problem brotha. If you do what 333 said above you should be able to handle the oily skin and so should your misses haha. Take care man and be safe.
