Help!!! Bulging disc
ad
Been in lot of pain and discomfort past few weeks. I thought it was just a pulled hamstring. Hamstring healed but was still hurting so went to chiropractor. Turned out to be a bulging disc. Been a few times now and it's slowly getting better. Anyone else have this problem? What did you do? Any recommendations to aid recovery?

I had three bad discs and a spinal fusion. U need to limit movement bending front back side to side. Give it time to heal. If u do to much and work through the pain it will become herniated w nerve damage then u will need surgery. Take it easy modified workouts.
HI!
If you got these symptoms:
Herniated discs
Cervical spine aches
Discs protrusions
Lumber spine aches
Numb fingers and toes
Or you got dorsopathy

You've been banned here before, for shilling this Russian crap. -2
davieboy1986Had two spinal surgeys myself with herniated and bulging discs pressing against nerves. Its a must to get a CT or MRI if you think it serious.
Chiropractor will just keep taking money off you saying its a trapped nerve or a slipped disc with there xray vision. Robbing F...Ks.
Rest is best and some times the bulge can reduce with time so don't always jump at surgery. I regret one of my surgeys as I had the same thing happen again and it righted it self this time without surgery.
Best of luck with your recovery.
I had 5 herniated discs, 1 was bulging, 1 was extruding on both sides. I have spinal stenosis, arthritis, degenerative disc disease and sciatica. Nerve damage in right foot and mg whole left leg. The Chiro I saw for 5 months didn't do shit for me, neither did an epidural, trigger point, stim, hot, cold, deep tissue massage, acupuncture or any of the stretching routines he gave me. Long story short, I had surgery, but mine was 2 procedures at the same time with bone grafting and metal inserts. I would advise making sure you see a good, qualified spinal specialist. Do your research, and find the best one you can get to. My Dr. was one of 2 doctors in the country to revolutionize the current system of grafting used today, and came extremely highly recommended. That being said, unfortunately there is no easy answer to your dilemma. Sit with a Dr, weigh out the options and choose what best fits your needs. Everyone that I know that DIDN'T do surgery at first eventually wound up on the table. Just make sure you are prepared for what you're getting yourself into man. You can PM me anytime, I can walk you through anything you need help with man.
It went to a spine specialist and he diagnosed me as having piriformis syndrom about a week ago. I have been doing the stretches that he recommended and the improvement each day is amazing.

Go see a real sports masseur, will help. Mine sticks her elbow deep into it, hurts at thet I've but frees it up little by little. Rolling your butt cheek around in a small hard ball, (I steal one of the dogs solid rubber balls about the size of a tennis ball), will help you. I've had problems with my piriformis for years.
Defiantly get all the required medical checks first before choosing a path of recovery. If you don't know exactly what your dealing with then choosing a path may only lead to further damage. I have two budged disks @ L4/L5 from many years of carrying to much shit on my back for countless hours. I found out there was a problem when i started high intensity high weight workouts. My back would lock up so fucking tight it would take my breath away. If a CT scan confirms you have bulge disk/s then also consider things that could be referring pain to the area. For me having super tight hip flexors was pulling my posterior alignment out, and in turn no allowing the muscles i was trying to develop to support the budged disks to work properly.
There is no hard and fast rule on how to fix this. It will be test and adjust until you find what works. Keep your head up, because it will get better mate
I have family that have major back and neck injuiries.
It would be my suggestion with any consistent or any serious pain you get a MRI or better yet a CT Scan. If it is visible in MRI, and looks bad then it will really look like crap on CT Scan.
An MRI is good but you can see much better on CT Scan, you go to spinal specialist /neuro surgeon
The spine is not something to even play with.
i had a RF ablation on my L4/L5 region and it stopped the pain.
Had a Chymopapain injection in the 80's, .........it seemed to work, took a couple of months for full effect.
YMMV
Been doing full body high rep eod workouts. Pain is slowly decreasing each day. Still feel as though my back is a bit crooked but with each day it's improving. Just wish I could get back to normal already.
My personal experience,Chiropractor with computer controlled traction machine.
.
Love that thing. Have used it twice. Noticeably better the next day. Makes me very tired for some reason. Like the flexion machine too. Makes lower back feel great.
Back is improving, but still a ways off. Cannot wait to be able to bend over and tie my shoes. Got a decent workout in tonight. Went lighter, 12-20reps but not to failure. Whole body. Does not hurt to walk anymore. Standing still is a bit uncomfortable. Just gotta be a tiny bit better than yesterday with each passing day. I will be back!
If it is a bulging disk the best non pharmacological thing you can do is PT. 2 important parts to it are hamstring stretches and strengthening your core. Tight hamstrings will pull posterior on your pelvis exacerbating the lordotic curve the L spine has that is associated with lower back pain. The core work does the opposite, making your abdominals and core stronger will help to relieve the lordotic or inward curve of your lumbar area. These are not magic fixes but will help relieving the pressure on the affected disc. As mentioned below, MRI is needed to know exactly what you're dealing with and the severity. Back injuries are a bitch. Good luck to you man and keep on keepin on.
I might've fat fingered & accidentally negged you but I meant +1
StevebI had one and taking supplements and doing core workouts helped me get rid of the pain. Hyper extentions with high reps. Also I went to a chiropractor a few times.
Ok, thank you everyone . I just called my physician to schedule an MRI. I'll keep you posted.
Just be sure to get in a large MRI machine. I got suck in the tiny death tube and I almost had a panic attack. It's basically a super loud coffin that they put you in. This one wasn't big enough for my shoulders, but they still stuffed me in. After 15 minutes, I almost lost it. Have fun! ;-)
I don't fit in them. Had to go in an MRI scanner they use at a zoo before my shoulder surgeries.
I'm having one on Monday for a suspected bicep tendon tear (ultra sound can't see deep enough through the delt) and the sports physician is worries I won't fit in the machine either. Guess we will find out.
Pics or it didn't happen
It's quite surprising how small they are. Anyone over 230-240 is going to have problems fitting in a standard MRI. I was slightly offended by the veterinary equipment though.....
Lmao!
lmao
Dr. returned my call. MRI is out. Cannot do one because of metal in my body. Stopping by his office tomorrow morning so he can take a look at me. Wish me luck!
I spent a lot of time with a chiro, and he was a stand up guy. He let me know after a week or two I needed to see a specialists, that he couldnt help me.
I went in and had a procedure done typically in the back done on my neck.
They just burned away the bulging piece so I could try to prevent fusion.
After a year plus, Im fully back and stronger than ever in the gym....thank god, because my hands were numb everyday.
Get checked by a real specialist brother and stop the pain for good hopefully.
Have experienced drastic improvement since 1st visit. Chiro said wait on MRI because my body is definitely healing and may not be necessary. Is this not proper protocol?
Sorry but I'd find another chiropractor. That's total BS. There's no harm in getting an MRI and it should tell you definitively what is wrong. Of course he doesn't want you to get one, because he needs a few dozen more visits from you. I'm not saying there aren't good ones out there, but they certainly don't help their profession gain acceptance by continuing this quackery.
I've had improvement as well since beginning my own PT BUT I still have an underlying nerve issue which only an MRI could properly diagnose.
Common approach, but I'd suggest it suits the chiropractor to keep getting you back spending money. Get it checked as soon as you can. Better to be cautious.
Guys below are right bro.... no self medication or tips for serious things like this.
See a specialist bro, thats my suggestion here.
AnonYou have to go to the doctor since everyone is different
Get an MRI so you know exactly what you are dealing with. A chiropractor can not give your a proper diagnosis. You need to determine what the issue is and what complications it is causing such as stenosis. Only an MRI can tell you that.
No question about it. Proper doctors and imaging are the only way to know.
Dealing with stenosis right now. Thought it was just a reoccurring sore back for quite a while. Now trying to navigate the best path for it.
Me too. Finally got a proper diagnosis after 8 years and visiting various doctors. Long story. Anyway, once I got the proper diagnosis I was able to do some rehab on the area which helped a lot and I go for my first epidural on Monday. I have eliminated the pain with proper exercises but the weakness is still there so hoping the epidural does the trick.
Just had my third epidural yesterday. They have been a godsend for me, but the first two only lasted 8 weeks a piece. I'm hoping number three will last longer. Regardless, those 8 weeks are heaven.
Crap. I was hoping one or two and I'd be done. Fingers crossed.
For me it was like going to the dentist and they don't quite get the nerve. They drill and it still hurts. Then they finally hit the exact spot and its like magic. I had several that didn't help and some that changed the world.
I haven't had one for about ten months now.
Everyone is different. Many people get 6-10 months out of them (some no relief). It just depends.
Years back, they used to do a set of three injections as standard procedure, but insurance put the kibosh on that. Best of luck!
