+ 15 First Show: Complete

ad

Ended up taking home the overall in novice for classic physique and 2nd in open class D.

Apparently I’m taller than I thought, so I weighed in 20+ pounds under my weight cap.

Technically my placings qualified me for nationals, but I’m not ready for that. Time to take the next 50-60 weeks to GROW. Then we’ll re-evaluate.

Either way, this was a good start. Lots of fun.

Very exciting! That must have been such an amazing feeling!

What routine do you feel worked best for you to grow your chest and upper chest to the size it is today?

Papa-pwn's picture

Well, over the last few years that I truly locked in with consistency across the board: tracking food, water, rest, etc for 599 straight days no breaks, I’ve changed my split up a handful of times, so I can’t say that any one routine contributed the most.

What I can say, is that my growth across the board took a massive jump when I actually came to understand what it meant to train with intensity. Not oh I’m pushing hard, but I’m pushing every single set to absolute failure.

My chest is actually an area of targeted improvement this offseason, specifically width from the side, so I’ll be upping its volume roughly 20% over last bulk.

You push every set to failure? No reps in reserve on any sets?

Papa-pwn's picture

Yep, that’s what I’ve found my body responds best to!

The hard part was then dialing in the volume. I didn’t really think overtraining was a real thing, and I still think most people have no idea what it actually feels like, but I hit it after a couple months of daily training like this.

So yeah, every set to failure, every day, but the volume is strictly managed to keep it sustainable. Roughly 6-10 sets per day.

That’s for the great insight. It’s funny how you look at your own chest and look for improvements while I look at it and say how do I get my chest like that lol.
Your mindset is motivating! Thanks for showing me how your mindset is to make it to the place you are today!

Fucking awesome man. Congratulations.

not that I'd ever know, because Ive never even dreamt of competing, but do you just hit up a waffle house or IHOP or something on the way home from the show and go ape shit?

Papa-pwn's picture

Pretty much. I had about 12000kcal worth of ice cream, cookies, pizza, and sushi in the hours that followed.

Made myself sick.

Worth it
