+ 1 BEST TIME TO WORKOUT?
ad
I’m sure this question has been asked before, but I’m curious to hear everyone’s thoughts.
What time of day do you feel gives you the strongest mind-to-muscle and overall mind-body connection during your workouts — early morning, midday, evening, or late at night?
For me, early morning workouts are the best way to start the day and wake up both my brain and body. However, I feel like I have a stronger mind-muscle connection and can push myself harder later in the day.

I like the early morning better, I like to push myself with my workout so I feel like it’s better to go first thing in the day so I have no excuse to not go later. Being a dad I do happen to hit the late night workouts when the kids are sleeping and it’s nice to be the only person there. They both have their benefits
Near midnight for many years was my favorite. Get off work and go. Commercial gym. The people in there at that time were beast. The chick's were solid bodybuilding or fitness types. Everyone had earbuds or hoodies and just blasted. No phones for texting or selfie crap. Maybe a dozen of us in the huge gym. No waiting. Just focused
Being retired and running my own business helps, so 9am every day for years. I miss the early crowd, and when im leaving the lunch crowd is just getting there. I cant fuck with evening workouts. Again, too crowded. Plus I like stims, so preworkout after 6-7pm is no bueno. Im at a small private gym and it still gets crowded, I have no idea how some of yall deal with commercial gyms. I hate people. Did I mention I hate crowded gym?
IN the past, many years ago now, Id feel strongest going in around 3pm. But found that the stress from being around too many people negated alot of that.
Early morning for me, extremely early. I work at 5 am so I'm in the gym 145am usually to 330 with cardio. Gyms are just too packed anymore to try and lift after work.
Damn! Next level shit brother. Forget the lame 5am crowd. I thought I was part of something until you showed up
Bro I basically go to bed right after work lol. Gotta fit it in when you can.
El_Levantador_405I personally like morning workouts but due to my job I workout in the evening instead as I can't bring myself to wake up at 3am.
Ultimately the best time to go is the one that actually gets you in the gym.
Look at the comment above you. You think 3am is early
My schedule is a little fucked up, so I go right after work. For me, that's around 10am. I try to time meal #3 an hour or 2 beforehand. I've usually already got a gallon of water in me by that time also.
I'm pretty warmed up and loose from work by the time I get to the gym as well as fed and hydrated. I'm dog tired by the time I'm done, though, and I crash into a nap hard when I get home around Noon.
I like early morning to start my day off correctly and have the rest of my day enjoying how good I feel from the workout. Two cups of coffee and go
I only have time in late because of work and kid 9-10 pm
I don’t take preworkout
Plus I have never done fasted cardio or a workout so I can’t say if I like it or not.
Just something in my brain says that eating all my meals all day then hitting the gym is gunna give me all the energy and endurance.
Plus that’s when all the baddies go to my gym
Wake up at 4am, slam a liter of water, have two cups of coffee with about 30g of honey each for some quick carbs, in the garage smashing weights by 430am. Maybe not be ideal, but with family, work, life, etc.. it's the only time I can stay consistent, and consistency always wins.
unseen423im best around 10am-noon. get my early morning fasted cardio in, one or two meals and then hit it.
I love my early morning workouts. Nothing better to set the pace for the day.
I prefer anytime after work. I rotate shifts (morning, swings, graves) pretty often so I just make do. I shower at night as well so I don’t want to smell like a pig when I come into work haha.
Overall, I love late at night due to how empty my gym is.
after 2 meals around 1pm
I like early morning. Sometimes I wake up at midnight or 1 or 2am, ill get a work out in. Nothing like being awake before everyone else. I love the world before everyone wakes up. I love walking around cities when theyre empty/quiet. Feels like some post apocalypse "i am legend" vibe. Taking a dab, cranking those earbuds all the way up, going for a walk/run when its still cool, to warm up, getting finished before most people are even waking up. Slim chance Ill have the same enthusiasm to get in the gym later in the afternoon/evening. I do but if I had it my way and I stuck to a schedule, id always schedule workouts for the early mornings. First thing even.
I like having most of my meals in before training. Tried going earlier in the day but got tired easier so usually I go around 7-8pm
Honestly for me it's whenever I can make it to the gym. I tend to find times when the gym is less crowded. Because of work, I currently go around 11:30 am but on days off I will go around 10:30 pm
I prefer around 3pm after a nap. but during the week I go at 4:00am because that’s the only way I know I for sure can go. My job can be physically hard some days so I never want that to be an excuse
I like mid day the most, around 1pm and I’ve already eaten two meals and gotten plenty of water in me. This only works for when I’m off work though, I typically have to workout late around 5-6pm
Same for me. Prefer the mid day but typical work day is 3pm lift session.
I’ve tried the early morning 5am workouts and they just don’t hit for me man. Can’t move as much weight or as much intensity. So it’s directly post-work like 5pm typical packed gym time for me.
Now my ideal best workout time if possible is like a 10am or 2pm workout about an hour or so after a good meal. Love to do that on my days off and feel relaxed and strong AF. No rush to be in/out and I can really focus on having a great workout.
Whenever I can get it in. Preferably when I’m most motivated which is usually late afternoon after a full day of work weirdly enough.
when you can.
Morning is probably the best but I generally don't get to go until evening, which by then I'm mentally exhausted and ready for a nap.
100%.
When someone asks me the best type and/or most effective cardio… I always reply “The cardio that you actually do”.
I genuinely wish I could work out in the mornings, it would simplify so many logistical issues with kids, work, and just having a life. I even have a home gym, so getting to it isn't the issue. I just... can't move that well in the mornings. Like you say, I can push myself sooo much harder in the afternoons and early evenings. If I went to the gym in the mornings, I would probably only hit 50-60% of the weights / reps I can do normally.
Add to it, I wake up just starving, I love a big breakfast. So then I'd eat, and then have to wait before hitting the gym. Now, time is a factor, I just can't squeeze it all in, before getting on the train into the city every day.
Would love to hear how some other dads here find a way to make morning workouts possible.
Same… add shitty sleep in there as well. Last night I didn’t hit gym until 8:30pm, not ideal but better late than never I guess.
