+ 4 I’m the biggest POS.

ad

I’ve been struggling mentally all day with this. Figured I’d share the most insane thing to happen.

So back story. Back October 2025 I sent off my truck to be built with a shop in town. I have a shop 2 hours away I trust but convinced to trust this new shop in town… So drop off the truck and we begin a big build on it! The whole thing.. 10-12in coilover lift, American forces, 40in Nittos, $8k in stereo system equipment, tune deleted, tint, paint to match. Everything. Well it went to shit. The shop cut corners, did AWFUL work, damaged $3,000 in powder coating and I took my truck back in January beyond pissed threatening the shop owner. I’m out $37,000 in work.. He refused to refund me anything. So I decide to sue when I keep offering him a way out.

Well after figuring out the proper avenue and all that and filling out paper work 2 weeks ago, this week I got around to paying the filing and have the sheriff serve it….

I wake up today excited knowing the sheriff will be banging on the shop door and it’ll start a battle.. Until I get a text from a buddy…. I make a joke about not being able to get my money back because the owners dead.. not knowing he was.. he drove drunk this morning at 2am and hit a tree… So I’m spiraling. I feel awful. Then I realize this is about to be served and the only ones who can accept it is him, or his business partner.. HIS DAD!

So I call my county filing office and beg them to stop.. But too late.. On the day this 30 year old man died.. I just had the sheriff unknowingly serve the guys DAD court papers.

I feel like an absolute fucking POS…

Sorry to hear this mate, makes you wonder if what he did that night was half intentional given all the shit he was in. Not even sure how he would of got out of all that.

You don't control life and death bro. Greg's advice is solid

Greg's picture

Get a 3rd party or use certified mail. Don't walk upto him and "Personalize" the issue. It's a bill on the table like every other unpaid bill. An inhuman task that needs doing.

If you transact in person you put a face on it. It's the soulless landlord tossing a mother and child on the street.

BillyBear's picture

Honestly, feel bad for the dad but fuck that guy. He ripped you off and forced you into the position of legal action.
As some others said, sounds like the dude was spiraling out of control.

That’s tough bro ….but ain’t none of it your fault. A man needs to keep his word and he didn’t deliver on your truck. Not your fault he died. You didn’t know he was dead when the papers got served. I’d write a letter to his dad explaining that it wasn’t personal and you didn’t plan the timing

Nah honestly company still owes you buddy. But no wonder why the work was shit. Sounds like dude might have been spiraling outta control. RIP to him but you shouldn’t feel bad at all and honestly dad probably already knew his son might have been having some problems.

Definitely not a POS and ahhh well. Shit happens and I hope no one else was involved in accident. I hope the tree is ok though.

No, you shouldn't feel bad. He made his bed and now it cost him not only his life but he left that burden on his dad. As shitty as it is that he died, that anyone died. Karma is a real thing. And while there's only a few things that I think warrant death, that was the choice he made. You had nothing to do with that, and you still deserve to be reimbursed for that. He's gonna have to sell or consolidate or take a loan out on the business to give you back what is owed. That's of owning or being a business partner. I know it's easy to feel guilty but man, you did NOTHING wrong. So, don't feel bad. The dad knowingly took those risks getting into business with his son if he knows he's doing shady work too... while burying their son is terrible, you still deserve what is owed.

Look… I was in a similar boat 2 years ago with the contractor for my homel… this guy stole millions from a combination of hardworking people leaving them virtually homeless.

I grew up in a police household and my dad was born in the 50s. I was raised to seek retribution. I can’t say how many times I wish the entire contractor and his family would be in their house when a misfortune accident may occur. It would be no skin off my back. Shitty things happen to shitty people.

Don’t lack empathy for the family, but he can face the maker for his crimes with whatever feelings you may have. Pray about it is all you can do. We all have different mindsets in life. Just don’t let something out of your control ruin you. Hope you can try to have a good rest of the weekend.

You're being a bit too soft IMO. He was an adult, he made his own decisions in life and you holding him accountable is unrelated to his death. Good thing it happened right before and not right after or you probably would have thought you were the cause.
Either sue his estate or close the chapter and move on but don't let it weigh you down.

Mrtommorrow1987's picture

Honestly don’t think you are a POS. You had a shitty situation where a shitty person essentially took you to the cleaners for 35k and then you thought about his father after a tragedy happened. He is also prob a victim to of his son’s shenanigans.

So... Dad's paying you right?

Lol this is great. Zero sympathy for drunk drivers. Glad it was him and not an innocent.

Fuck em.

How good could the quality of his builds be if he didn't survive the crash. Like I crashed and rolled my prerunner plenty never died even a little bit. I did write a bunch of checks to fiber works though.

press1's picture

Are you sure you didn't die?

Squatch710's picture

I mean I am dead inside. But that is from crashing a relationship not a truck.

I have to admit I was one of those Arseholes once upon a time, with so many years under my belt I was actually proud to say I was a master at doing it and never getting caught - I knew what the cops looked for lol My downfall in the end was too many people and enemies got know I was doing it and the rats got me in the end in return for a £200 reward.

However nowadays, since being sober for so long I actually despise people who do it and can easily spot who is doing it on the roads. At one point I even wanted to become a Traffic cop so I could go busting the people doing it on a night because there is simply no excuse for it - the devastation it causes to other innocent people is HUGE and all those affected when you end up killing someone because of your own selfishness. You take way more risks, you lack proper sense and judgement and you merely 'think' you are a better driver because of increased confidence - nothing more.

Everyone meets their maker in the end if you cannot distinguinsh between right and wrong - this guy was clearly an arsehole in every move he made, sure he probably didn't deserve to die when he did but go around giving Zero fucks towards others and soon enough you will pay the price one way or another.

It’s not 1955 anymore, uber exists. No excuse for it…

No, no you’re not.

Brother you didn't know he was going to get drunk get in a car and crash and die , you have nothing to be sorry for the timing is unfortunate yes but did you do it to be vindictive ...No

It's a sad set of circumstances that it's being served to the dad but it's not your fault and you tried to stop it

Your definitely not a piece of shit

Pumped_'s picture

Im sure he left the dad with far more problems than your lawsuit. Bet he has tons pending and unpaid bills. The father will file chapter 11 because the son screwed him over so bad he cant keep the business afloat. If your mother, sister, daughter was a car he hit drunk and he killed them drunk or he killed another family which he cared less about when he started that car would you still feel like a POS? Bet you would be posting "this guy that ripped me off is a POS!"

It was a smart legal move, would’ve done the same for that amount.
And his demise, or the surprise incident, had nothing to do with you……he chose to drive in that condition. Hopefully he didn’t hurt/kill anyone else in the wreck.

Not a POS move at all. Ripping off your customers is a asshole move so is driving drunk. This dad either knew his son was a shitty person or thought what he was up to was fine. If I were you I would be hoping my notice was served first because there is a very slim chance you're the only one with a claim to file against this dead drunk guys estate.

Petecastiglione's picture

This isn’t your fault though. Shit happens. You didn’t know he died, I’m sure the last thing the dad will give a fuck ab is this. If you got fucked over it is what it is for the dad, oh well, any of us can die any day at any time. Don’t feel bad
