+ 3 Muscle cramps from statins

ad

Anyone ever got muscle cramps from statins? I take red yeast rice and the brand I take has been tested to contain lovastatin and a side of statins is cramps and other muscle pain issues. I’ve been dealing with cramps in my lower abs and legs for a while now and looking at when I first got back on RYR Is about when this started. My potassium, sodium and calcium levels are in normal range. I stay well hydrated. I take a magnesium supplement. I get some taurine through the sugar free Red Bull I drink pre workout. I’m gonna come off the RYR for a while and see what happens. I ignored it long enough but last night my wife was down on here knees doing her thing and right at that moment we all wait for I got a brutal fucking lower ab cramp. Couldn’t even feel the pleasure of busting a nut in my wife’s mouth through the excruciating pain of it lol.

So ya has anyone else experienced cramps on statins? Is there any supplements I’m missing if coming off the RYR doesn’t help? This stuff has worked great for my cholesterol so I’m bummed I have to come off it. I’m really hoping this is the cause because this sucks. I can’t go through life scared to bust a nut lol.

UPDATE: I’m about 5 days off the RYR and can say pretty unequivocally it was causing the cramps. Really didn’t take long to clear out as it does have a short half life. After being off for like 2 days the first thing I noticed was I wasn’t feeling like I was about to get cramps in my hips/groin when I stood up from sitting down as had been the case for months. No cramps while training this week. But the biggest test was tonight, back to where this all started earlier this week. I did not get another brutal ab cramp when my wife was doing her thing. I was pretty scared leading up to the moment, trying to delay it as long as possible lol. But it was all good. I’ll have to see what happens to my cholesterol being off the RYR.

Pitavastatin is known to be significantly lower in side effects than the other statins. Especially the muscle cramps. Could always request your prescription be changed over due to crippling cramps caused by the lovastatin

irongame427's picture

That’s good to know. I don’t have a script, I take OTC RYR which contains monacolin K which is chemically identical to lovastatin and does the same thing. It’s been super effective for me. My cholesterol wast that bad before it. Total was 200-210. But I have genetically low HDL so while my LDL was right at the high end of normal, my ratio sucked because of my 35-40 HDL. Not enough good cholesterol to clear and even a high normal amount of LDL. Atleast according to ratios.

SeeOhShow's picture

Same issue here. LDL I was 26 and trigs 55 last checkup but my HDL was 29. Never had >40 HDL even natty. Thats without any statins. I started taking pita because it’s the only one to significantly raise HDL. I get mine from India personally. Wouldn’t be able to get a legit script with my cholesterol numbers. Will get bloodwork soon to see if it’s made much a difference in my HDL.

Yeah bro, that’s textbook statin/RYR stuff.
Lovastatin kills CoQ10 production, and when CoQ10 drops, your muscles can’t handle normal contraction/relaxation … so cramps show up even when electrolytes look perfect.

Happens in legs, abs… and yeah, even mid-finish. Lol

What I’d do IMHO:
Drop the RYR for a bit … good call.
Add CoQ10 (200–300mg/day) … this is the big one for statin cramps. of course you can adjust dosage accordingly …
If you still need cholesterol help later: citrus bergamot + fish oil combo is way gentler and still effective.

If the cramps vanish after stopping RYR, that’s your answer … super common side effect.

No man should be scared to bust a nut, brother. Fix that ASAP, Big bro !

I really hope the RYR is the smoking gun and I don’t have to dig any further because I don’t know what else could be causing this. It sure seems like a textbook side effect of statins.

I should have added that I’ve been on Coq10 since I started back on RYR, but only at 100mg Ed. Maybe I needed 200-300mg. Even though im dropping the RYR I’m bumping the coq10 up to 200mg ed. I also take fish oil and policansol for cardiovascular/lipids. I will add citrus bergamot as well. I’m sure my LDL is going to go up some coming off RYR. This stuff has been super effective for me. But hopefully fish oil + policansol + citrus bergamot and coq10 will be nearly as effective, but without the cramps. Appreciate it bro.

HOW the Hell do you know all this shit Panda - Should I just grab my jacket on the way out or whaaatt???!! LMAO

Pandateston's picture

Bro, I only know that one because I LIVED that hell myself.
I had those same statin-style cramps and ended up deep in the rabbit hole trying to figure out why my abs were locking up right when I needed them the most. Lol

Had to fix it or retire early from “bedroom PRs,” you feel me? :(

So yeah … personal suffering + too many late-night studies = Panda with random science facts.
I don’t recommend anyone follow my methods LMAO… just take the info and use it at your own risk. lol

Independent research can be just as valid if not more than clinical trials and scientific publications. Anecdotal evidence has and can occasionally be used in case by case as compounds effect everyone so differently- if you have a basic understanding and get labs lots of time you know what’s really going on.

A lot of the stuff you write genuinely comes off as somebody that has been educated in the space, and that real world first hand experience can be 100% more applicable than some cookie cutter solution ripped from a 25 year old medical textbook.

This applies to numerous fields even ones that have a lot more research than PED use. We see and know only what many of them WANT us to see and know until we take those steps to understand it ourselves.

Another reason guys like you have my upmost respect! I’m sure we’ve all heard “If you’re going to do something don’t half ass it”.

The amount of people that jump in half assed after listening to one YouTube video is astounding.

The most knowledgeable people I've met with medical issues weren't dr's but self invested patients

Pandateston's picture

Couldn’t agree more, brother … the guys who’ve actually lived through the problems usually know the game better than the textbooks.

Man, I wish I had a “Dr. Uncle Yoked” in my corner… half my issues would be solved on the spot. LMAO
When you’ve got both the credentials and the real-world, in-the-trenches experience, that’s when you actually earn the “right to speak”.

That’s why Dr. Todd Lee blew up. I don’t take everything he says as gospel, and I don’t agree with all his takes… but I pay attention, because the dude actually lived it, tested it, and learned the hard way. That alone makes his perspective worth listening to … IMO…

Yeah I know exactly what you mean mate - as soon as I realise I have a certain problem or it comes up at the Doctors there's me off Eroids and reading online Studies for HOURS every night for a week LMAO Then buying every single supplement thats said to help it. You can end up learning all kinds of shit about the condition and how to rectify it. Then when you come on here and tell and help others, members are left bewildered as to how you know it all Lol

Pandateston's picture

Exactly, brother man … we go full scientist for a week, fix our own shit, and somehow end up helping people here and there in forums during the process. Funny how that works.

HAHAHAHAA LMFAOO!!!!

I Bet that literally ruined the whole Shag, those ab cramps are no joke - use to get them doing T-bar rows so I stopped doin them. Reminds me of when I had Bronchitis this year, blasting one out whilst sat on the sofa with Youtube on my laptop. So many times just as I was about to shoot me man fat a load of mucus would irritate my lungs and I'd go into a coughing/gagging fit -TOTALLY RUINED the moment.

On the Statins front - I would ask my Granny but she's dead bro Lol

irongame427's picture

Yup, it completely ruined the moment. Could not feel even an ounce of pleasure through the pain of the cramp. After I didn’t even feel the sense of satisfaction, It totally canceled out the nut. 2 days later my abs are still sore lol. Thank god I’m married. Can’t imagine this happening with some hot girl i don’t know that well that I picked up. As I’m nutting in her mouth I’m winching in pain clutching my abs and saying all this weird shit lol.

UncleYoked's picture

Hey brother, have you tried low dosing retatrutide or running GW (or both).
Statins are the devil. Right now big pharma is trying to keep reta from being FDA approved, which tells me there's something to it.
Anything that big pharma is against, I am all for.

irongame427's picture

I agree. Statins are the devil. I didn’t know big pharma was trying to block Reta’s approval. I may have time actually look into that. Whatever theyre against is what I’m for. I’m against GLP-1s for the same reason we don’t like statins. Not only is big pharma pushing GLP-1s on everyone, they even have the damn government telling us how great they are. And the media, the medical establishment. Anytime all those forces are saying the same thing I assume they’re lying to us again and there is something else going on. The newest line of bullshit is GLP-1s are going to extend life expectancy by 6%. No they’re not lol. Big pharma has been incapable of extending life expectancy the last 100 years when you control for infectious diseases and infant mortality. But I’ll Check out Reta. I thought Eli Lilly was sprinting towards approval In 2027.

UncleYoked's picture

People abuse any drug. I'm not a huge fan of sema, reta is a much cleaner GLP from what I understand (never ran it myself). I've read a few things as well as users here about it's effect on lipid profiles which seems promising.
Some AI exerpts from misc studies

Triglycerides (TG): Levels were reduced by up to 40.6%. This included a significant reduction in the number of total and large/medium triglyceride-rich lipoprotein particles (TRLP).
LDL Cholesterol (LDL-C): The number of total and highly atherogenic small LDL particles was reduced, suggesting an improved cardiovascular risk profile. The overall non-HDL cholesterol (which includes LDL-C) was reduced by up to 26.9%.
Apolipoprotein B (apoB): This marker for cardiovascular risk was reduced by up to 24.2%.
HDL Cholesterol (HDL-C): Total HDL ("good") cholesterol levels were only slightly reduced, but the average size of the HDL particles increased, which may indicate improved function.
Liver Fat: Retatrutide dramatically reduced liver fat content, resolving steatosis (fatty liver disease) in over 85% of participants on the highest doses, which is linked to improved lipid metabolism and insulin sensitivity

irongame427's picture

Reta definitely looks very promising. I’ve seen its effects on more then a few guys on here with lipids and blood sugar. I might give it a shot at a low dose when I start tightening up my diet early next year. I’d love to get shredded while not having to eat strictly boneless skinless chicken and brown rice lol.

Aggieguy's picture

Take this for what it's worth but when I was working for a Cardiologist, a lot of our patients would be placed on statins. It was pretty common for patients to switch statins until they found one with minimal sides and cramps was one of those symptoms. Most patients wanted Lipitor but that stuff is very expensive and a lot of health insurance companies would not pay for it but it was the medication that people had the least amount of sides on.

I take q10 and cramps went away

irongame427's picture

I’ve been taking 100mg of coq10 ed for as long as I’ve been in RYR. But maybe 100mg isn’t enough. Either way I’m going off the RYR for a while to rule it out as the cause of this.

ferhev's picture

Well, I take 300mg of coq10 a day. Now, FWIW I take a very low dose of rosuvastatin (2.5mg) and Ezetimibe 10mg, but that;s more than enough to lower my LDL from 147 to 40's.

Jockstrap's picture

There's peptides that help cholesterol. Viking warned of statins.....nasty shit

irongame427's picture

Agreed, statins are bad drugs. I always thought with RYR being natural it isn’t as bad, but it probably is.

MadTightSpandex's picture

Ya for sure. Ran statins for about a year on and off. When on would get cramps, muscle pain and restless feeling usually in calves. Also believe I like pulled more muscles when on it than anything time in my life.

Reta kicked the living shit out of my LDL numbers far better than statin ever did too. Statin took it down maybe 20 points in a year. Reta was 40 points in 4 months.

Aggieguy's picture

I posted a while back blood tests that showed Reta lowered my cholesterol and almost had me in the normal range for everything. i am now taking a herbal supplement with Reta and will soon get tested again to see if I am finally all normal on lipids.

Sounds like I’m on the right track with this being the cause. But RYR has done wonders for my cholesterol. Went from 210 to 130 in like 2 months. LDL dropped like 75 points, VLDL dropped a lot too. Tris dropped like 70 points. And this is at the same time as me eating almost exclusively red meat. Will see how it rebounds not taking the RYR.

smoke1more's picture

Just curious how many mgs of RYR are you taking daily. I was on 1200, but recently bumped to 2400, 1200 twice a day.

irongame427's picture

I was on 2400mg Ed but went down to 1200 probably a month ago. Cholesterol still looked great at the lower dose.

smoke1more's picture

Funny you bring this up. I take RYR too, and have noticed leg, foot and abdominal cramping as well. Never gave it much thought figured I was maybe dehydrated, as my blood work is all within range. I planned on taking a break after this month, because I read RYR can increase liver enzymes. I will see if cramping subsides next year.

jpk654's picture

There is some theories that a defeciency in CoQ10 causes cramps. The same pathway that decrease your cholesterol also decreases CoQ10. Its an over the counter supplement, or you could just buy it on the internet. Most people start with 200 mg per day. Good luck man.

irongame427's picture

Man I just realized something. I ran out of Coq10 last week. I was probably off it for 4-5 days. Got back on it either last night or the night before. But my levels probably dropped enough and caused this bad cramp.

irongame427's picture

That’s Interesting. I take coq10 as well,100mg. For as long as I’ve been on RYR. I take policansol as well. Maybe 100mg isn’t enough. Either way I’m dropping the RYR for atleast a month to rule out it as the cause of this.

smoke1more's picture

It literally says to take CoQ10 on the back of one of my bottles of RYR.

jpk654's picture

That's pretty wild. Might be worth a shot. It helps with cardiac function anyway, so taking it doesn't hurt. I'm not on a statin, but I take it daily. Also, it can lower blood pressure some. Usually 5 to 10 points off systolic. Only thing that I have found is I have to take it in the mornings, or it'll keep me up at night.

smoke1more's picture

I have some CoQ10 on hand, for cardiac function just haven’t been taking it. I will be adding it to my daily supplement regimen.

My foreman just started with statins. Was talking about crazy leg cramps and not being able to feel stretched out. Recent anecdote.
