+ 1 Home gyms
I’m starting to setup a home gym and trying to plan out what I need and have some variety. For the guys who have home gyms, what’s your setup look like that covers all muscle groups?
I’m getting a power rack/smith machine combo setup. So that covers different variations of bench for chest, plus cable flys, shoulder press and cable raises for delts. For back I’ll be able to do BB rows, low cable rows, lat pull downs. Then I’m looking at a leg press hack squat combo machine. I think I’ll be able to do calf raises on it as well. I already have another bench that has leg extensions and hamstring curls. Plus squats on the power rack so I’m good on legs. I’m going to get enough dumbbells to do be able to various presses, rows, plus curls and lat raises and all that. Got some EZ curl and hammer curl bars already for arms and stuff.
Seems like these 3 things will pretty much cover everything to at least get me started and be able to get a good workout in for Every muscle, and be able to switch things up from time to time. I’ll probably add other stuff down the road. Anything else I should look into? Space is obviously a limitation.

That’s a sweet setup man. Love the old school vibe to it.
I only have an adjustable flat bench without racks and 200lbs worth of dumbbell plates, I’m one of the weird ones that doesn’t like hard workouts at home. See if you can get @Greg to post some pics, he has a nice home setup, everything that’s needed but not crazy over the top.
I’ve never been fan of home gyms and lifting by myself. But with young kids and needing a gym with childcare and that’s relatively close to our house that has left me at the local YMCA for the last few years and it’s a nightmare. Lack of equipment, and no duplicates of popular machines or dumbells, inconsiderate people who hog the 1 smith machine for 45 minutes straight etc etc. so I can almost never do the same lifts week over week, or the same order. Really screws up progress and gauging strength progression and trying beat last week etc. So im done. I have quite a bit of room in my basement to set up a decent gym so I’m gonna go for it.
UserofnamesHonestly it looks like you pretty much have everything you’d need. Just make sure you got the basics as well, something like rubber stablemats for flooring and a mirror. Personally i would add a pullup/dip station but that’s about it
UserofnamesAlso, like with owning a new house, after a few weeks/months you’ll soon realize what you’re missing as well ^^ stuff always pops up
Forsure, there’s a lot of “wants” that I’ll add over time, that I don’t necessarily need starting out. Ab machine, calf raise machine, preacher curl bench are on my list. I’m buying the power rack and hack squat machine new, but everything else I’ll pickup used on marketplace as good deals arise. Until I run out of room in my basement.
