+ 1 Creatine non responders

ad

Anyone else gets zero from creatine? I'm talking no water weight gain/increase in strength. I have used creatine a number of times over the years, buying a tub here and there when buying some whey. I have never noticed any difference whatsoever and then once I finish the tub I have noticed zero difference in the gym or on the scales.

Is it a case of certain people just need to take more? Or just some people don't get any benefit

I believe that using creatine during a steroid cycle has a minimal effect. Perhaps you might see some results if you add creatine during the first 6-8 weeks. if your cycle includes only injectable products.

Creatine hcl works the best for me. Aside from that the one time I bought them in tablet form they did not dissolve and just came out the other end completely intact lol strange. I ended up tossing that bottle. I have heard of some people being non-responders, but that would suck, I really like the stuff.

I think there is an actual "effective dosing" based on body weight. In a Bugenhagen vid, he was saying when he was researching creatine to make a supplement for his company, he found that the 5g dose was for people that were 150lbs Johnny pencilnecks.... or something to that effect.

When you use creatine - what are you mixing it in/with?

You've mentioned everything but what creatine does. It provides energy to the muscle so you can exercise harder for longer. Diet and exercise dictates everything you've described.

Supplemental creatine is not very bioavailable. The type of creatine is important. Check out buffered creatine. You may also need to take as much as 20 grams during your cycle.

I’ve heard people say this, but I’m not sure the mechanism. Creatine is obviously present and used in literally all people, for muscle locomotion and a huge amount is used in metabolic processes in the brain. Maybe there is a factor that limits how you assimilate it, maybe there’s less efficient uptake, or some other weird shit. My personal results aren’t mind blowing, but there is a noticeable benefit - both physically & cognitively.

I think a crucial factor in the uploading of it is to make sure you take it with a tonne of glucose/carbs to try get an insulin spike, I definitely notice its not as effective if its just being thrown in normal drinks and protein shakes. Just glucose by itself is the way to go.

Nattyboomba's picture

That makes sense. Combining it with just a massive dose of protein isn’t likely very ideal.

I have been using creatine on and off over the past few months too, the thing to make sure is that you are fully loaded up on it and not just doing the maintenance dose of 3 to 5g 'here and there'. I find if I do about 10g a few hours before a session I can tell the difference, but if it hasn't been constant it doesn't do anything. I do swear though it seemed more effective when it first came out all those years ago than the products we get these days - I use the Creapure version too so its not like its entry level cheap stuff.

If you’re well over 200lbs I would do 10 grams daily. There seems to be some synergy between steroids and creatine, perhaps we burn through it faster when on cycle.

For OP it’s possible he’s not taking enough, definitely your tip on combining with carbs (many early studies used fruit juice) would help. Also if he’s already consuming large amounts of red meat he might be fully loaded without it. 2 pounds of steak has around 5 grams of creatine already.

With the potential benefit it has with age related brain decline and the fact that steroids can speed up that process it’s probably good to use it.

Definitely true buddy if you are already a red meat lover, your creatine stores are already much higher to begin with. In the studies its always the guys who have low stores of it that respond the best. I bet a lot of the studies were also done on lighter guys who are still natural, which will make a huge difference versus a heavier steroid user! We have to use more than them to keep the muscle stores full.

I’m with you, although it’s been a few years, it just doesn’t seem the same as it did 25 years ago. Maybe it’s me? I dunno, but it definitely doesn’t hit the same as when it first came out.

Mate the stuff back in the day use to make me feel nauseous for an hour afterwards, and proper spiked up mentally. Now I just seem to get an increased HR for a while and thats it lol The MuscleTech stuff was on another level though premixed up with 70g of Dextrose to create an Insulin shuttle. Really did work well that stuff, I swear there was something more to it LMAO

Not enough information. I'm "guessing" you've tried mono and haven't responded. If that is the case, you can try HCL. That's what I use. Good luck

Well non responders isn't a new concept, I have been lifting for 15 plus years so I have tried every version under the sun, I'm more wondering if it merely a dosage issue. I will investigate more

Very well could be

Ya could be and I think it’s pretty safe and cheap to like mega dose it. Nothing crazy but try like 10 grams day. If you take the amount they put in like preworkout and stuff it’s only like a gram

Ya like creatine is safe and some new studies are showing it is beneficial for brain health so should be no issues increasing the amounts, expectations are for a 3/5 lb weight gain in water weight and a very slight increase in performance, so I'm not viewing it as some magical powder
