What Size T.V ya got?

ad

Okay not exactly Steroid related but I figured its still kind of relevant since you gotta have a great T.V to be able to sit in front of as you chow down all the food we eat on a daily basis, nothing like sticking some Netflix on and eating a tasty meal Lol

About 5 days ago my Bravia 55" decided it was finally no longer going to play ball and stay on for longer than 30 seconds per time before turning itself off again, to be honest I've had problems with it ever since I bought it turning itself on and off during the night. The T.V engineer came out and took it back to the workshop to investigate and it turns out the 'Motherboard' needs to be replaced which Sony no longer make for that model! So basically it means buying a new TV even though this one was only 6 years old.

I am debating getting a Samsung 65" this time so it can totally dominate my lounge! lol What size does everyone else like to watch here and what brand do you have? I had an LG 42" that was pretty cheap and got 11 years out of before this one so am wondering if brand really matters when it comes to T.V's.

Don't have any televisions

press1's picture

No waayyy!! I don't believe that lol - how do you watch any Football or baseball then?

I was that guy for a long while after my divorce and I was single in my man whore apartment, just a big computer monitor lol. Had a small tv but never watched it.

eighty7's picture

No one in the house watches anything on TV everything is pretty terrible now. Movies and TV shows suck and anything worth watching you can find free online.

Bro, there are a few of you in here that I would definitely invite. If you’re going to be in Jersey that day, hit me up.

press1's picture

Ya know buddy how can it even be that my T.V seems completely normal now - isn't it scary what we get use to in life. That thing when I first got it seemed way too big and over the top - now I don't notice any of that and think it just looks like a normal TV. 8 months old now this post, funny how times flies eh??!! Scratch one-s head

JakeKO's picture

I hear ya, Bro! When she said she wanted a big TV over the fireplace, I thought it would look stupid, but she insisted it wouldn’t. We spend a lot of time sitting at the island in my kitchen because she’s always cooking something. Today I realized she was right. Our kitch runs right into our dining room so iit the TV was any smaller, it would seem so far away . It’s going to be cool when we have company and dinner party’s. We’re already planning a big superbowl party all because of this TV. I’m psyched about it now

press1's picture

Ohh shit - Did you actually tell her she was right too? lol

JakeKO's picture

@DeeMan This is the new one

JakeKO's picture

I like LG, but I bought one for my patio, and the damn thing doesn’t offer the ESPN app. WTF is that about? I had to buy a Firestick to watch ESPN on it.

JakeKO's picture

It must be a setting, because I recently bought my son a 50” Hisense (I think it’s 50”), and it is very loud, with great sound. My in-laws new Samsung was having the same issue, so I bought them a sound bar. While installing it for them, I can across a sound setting that was set to Dynamic. I changed it to Fixed and the issue was solved. They no longer need the sound bar. Like I said, check your sound settings because it may be an easy fix

JakeKO's picture

Don’t feel bad, Bro. I bought Two people in their seventies a sound bar, set it up, spent an hour teaching them how to use it, and then, after all that shit, found a setting that fixed the problem, SMH. $200 down the fking toilet, because I know they will never even turn that sound bar on now. If it wasn’t his Father’s Day gift, I would have brought that shit home. I ain’t got no fucking sound bar!!!!! Ain’t that some bullshit??? SMH!!! They bought me a grilling kit with some bullshit BBQ sauce that I can use to cook them shit when they come over. SMH! I must have done some fucked up shit in my past life, LOL

Pumped_'s picture

I had a 55" and came home and it had a crack and son who was playing xbox on it "didnt know what happened" So i bought a Hisense 65". Its about 8ft from the couch and wife thinks its too big and i want a 75" but she wants a new king size mattress first. In the master bedrooms i have a 42".

press1's picture

Bud when I got my 65" in the end, at first I thought it was way too big for my lounge - I even rang up the place I bought it from and asked how I send it back to do an exchange for a smaller one. But Jake convinced me that size really does matter in the end and its not just how you use it - so I stuck it out and after a few days climatized to it. Now I'd like a 75" too!! LOL In the words of 5FDP - 'Its Never Enough' .....

Pumped_'s picture

Haha good ole death punch. Once i get the 75" ill probably want bigger after that.

Ya know isn't it funny how the World moves on, how times change and the things we get use to in Life progress.

I remember a time when if you wanted to watch a Film you had to take a trip into town in the car and go to the local video store. You then had to pay to rent a huge VHS cassette for 2 nights and if it was late back you paid a fine. You prayed that the tape played okay and that the previous user hadn't chewed it up in their video player Lol Most of the time the sound was poor quality and to skip to an area you wanted to watch you had to Fast forward it for a few minutes, then hope that pot luck stopped it in the area you wanted to view it in.

Now you simply turn on the T.V, load up Netflix or which ever viewing platform you use, choose from pretty much any title you want then press play and it displays instantly in Ultra High picture quality and sound - all travelling via a wireless signal outside your home.

I’m a little older than you and remember when VCR’s didn’t even exist. We had seven channels, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13. Then when I was about seven years old, two different cable TV options came out, HBO, and WHT. My parents picked WHT, the cheaper option,, but they offered the Playboy channel at an additional cost,. Thinking about this now in hindsight, my parents were sex freaks. Makes sense, because I’m 52 and if I don’t have sex at least once every day, I’m miserable, LOL. Well, within two years, HBO was playing movies with better sex scenes that the Playboy channel, so WHT shit the bed. A few years later, VCR’s and Beta systems came out. It was AWESOME! I could watch Willy Wonka any time I wanted because my mom was a recording machine. She recorded every good movie there was. It was like having a little video store in our house. Then my dad bought another VCR that fell off a truck and figured out how to play videos on one, and record them on the other one. We thought he was a genius, but we’re always worried that the FBI was going to show up one day. Not realizing at the time that there were much bigger reasons for the FBI to show up. We’re from Jersey, kinda standard around here. Even at this age, I’m still bewildered how television, radio, and the internet work. Initially through wires, and now through satellites. Mind blowing I you ever eat some mushrooms, and really think about it in detail, LOL.

Drexyl's picture

It was significant when we got a second TV, I mean kinda big time. Then cable came around, had the box with the control wired to it, then the hot box came out and could descramble all the pay channels, the Emmanuelle series of movies on Cinemax was great, and Reform school girls still holds up today. The VCRs were about 30lbs and huge lol. Great memories.

press1's picture

Yeah I remember when we just started to record things off the TV and it seemed amazing!! Being able to play something back and watch it at the time YOU wanted to was a real novelty lol Did you have Betamax tapes also that never really took off. During my very early days one of our TV's was still in black and white I think. For years over in the UK we only had 4 channels, then along came channel 5. First time I came over to the US around 10 years old I would watch cable with all these different channels on, movies and all and it seemed a world away from what I was use to back home.

They found out from testing that a high 90something percent of kids will fail the 4 minute rotary phone test. They had 4 minutes to correctly dial a number and failed. Some thought you dial before picking up the phone.

I have an old wooden phonebooth I restored and placed a 1960's payphone in it, I added a digitizer, so the old analog phone actually works. everyone who comes over ends up playing with or wanting a selfie with them in the phonebooth.

But you are right, every kid who has not seen a payphone, much less a rotary pay phone, has no clue on the sequence on how to use it. They will dial, then pick up and hear a dial tone ("what's that?") ...ultimately, they'd figure it out.

God how I used to hate those with the number 9 or zero in their number... imagine the frustration of dialing 911

9................................................................1..1.. ..."please deposit 10 cents for the first 3 minutes"

With a rotary dial and a sister who completely hogged the phone line. I use to have to call the operator to make emergency break through’s to have my mother pick me up from sports practices. SMH

press1's picture

HAHAHa The Rotary Dial!!! That took forever to wind back and even worse when you flicked it off on the wrong number LMFAO We use to do 'Reverse charge calls' over here from phone boxes to people that you didn't like. Operator would ask the person if they are happy to pay for the call at double the rate and of course they are as they think its an emergency - then we would hang up. I mean we were about 10 years old and a group of little shits lol

UPDATE: In the end I went for a 65" Samsung 4K Ultra with Built in rear sex port. Just in case a few guys are right I got the 5 year Care & repair package and it also comes with a 5 year Warranty so they either take it back or come out and fix it if it breaks Lol Gotta say the thing looks huge in the lounge, thought it was too big at first but after a few hours its funny how you get use to the size once again. Navigation menu, picture and usability are all far superior to the Sony I had. Speakers are actually okay for general viewing and if you are trying to keep the noise down late at night, but it does sound a lot better through the sound bar especially music. Its got all these crazy features such as a TV history menu where you can see all the activity on it at various times and when it was turned on and off! Thanks So Much for everyone's help with this and as you guy's always say - Bigger Is Always Better!!!

press1's picture

I bet you got that from Curry's didn't you bud? Did you get home delivery or pick it up? There looks to be a 3 day wait on them atm.

press1's picture

Hahaha Its unbelievable the amount of people that are addicted to watching those 2 programs every night as if its real life. I just watch Netflix now as I hate paying for a TV license, cannot believe we still have to lol Do you guys have to pay a license fee in the states to watch normal terrestrial TV channels?

JakeKO's picture

Oh, hell yeah, but we call it a cable subscription. I pay about $250 per month for bullshit. But it’s a bundle deal, so if you try to pay for Wi-Fi alone, it’s only about $60.00 less. Such a scam, but kinda screwed into paying for it
