Has anybody had surgery for moon face?

ad

Hi I've had low bodyfat but big bloated cheeks for a few years now and seemingly no amount of dieting and cardio is reducing it.

I've narrowed it down to when I began using a cortisteroid ointment used for mouth ulcers (prescribed it without being warned of any side effects), so the moon face is not from AAS, but I imagine the end result is the same. I've no idea whether its excess fat storage/ water retention or swelling. I have stopped using the cortisteroid approximately a year ago but there has been no reduction in fat/swelling since.

I was wondering if anybody on here that's been unable to solve their own, has resorted to buccal fat surgery? (surgical removal of cheek fat). Or if anybody found any other alternatives to reduce it then any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Have you had allergy tests? Tried removing things from your diet to try to isolate possible triggers?

1000mg of vit c a day should reduce cortisol levels if you think that could be an inflammatory response...I believe it would be rentention in general and not isolated to a specific body part

You need a good consult with a few docs, a dermatologist, a plastic surgeon etc!

No offense, but I actually think that paradoxically your chronic dieting is to blame. Hypoleptinemia as a consequence of your dieting and restricting kicks your cortisol through your roof into cushingoid ranges, which then causes your adipocytes in your face and trunk to hold on to fat, while you lose fat predominantly on the extremities. Paradoxically, the exact same problem withh a moon face is pretty common with anorectic girls. In addition, perhaps you were likely also pretty unlucky genetically and the number and/or sensitivity if either your fibroblasts or adipocytes in your face is just higher and there is pretty much nothing you can do other than surgery...but once the cells are taken out they are gone forever and there is no way back and of for some reason your adipocyte sensitivity decreases again (e.g. as your cortisol issue is cleared), you might look weird. So I wouldn't take the risk with the surgery. Just my 2 cents

yeah, I've been having blood tests every 6 weeks or so for the past few months. No issues found, thyroid tested and thats fine, so that rules out the possibility of Hashimoto's disease.

I am due for a cortisol blood test early October. However my GP has already advised me that;
a) cortisol levels fluctuate throughout the day, and therefore its difficult to measure what would be a high cortisol level, unless its insanely high of course.
b) if for example it is established I have high cortisol, he doesn't know how it could be reduced. He advises me he'd send me to a specialist but from his own experience theres no pill as such that would reduce cortisol.

This may not be relevant, but my blood results have been disappointing as good cholesterol is low, and bad cholesterol is slightly above what would be an acceptable level. I am bewildered by this, as I've been on a strict keto diet for 2-3 months now, two salads a day comprising of 3 eggs, avocado, olives, spinach, lettuce, pumpkin and sesame seeds, olive oil and cucumber (no meat as Im vegetarian). One protein shake on days I dont train, and another protein shake after I train. So I would have thought my cholesterol levels would be perfect. So maybe thats related in some way.

Yeah I'll keep looking into it. The problem is, a normal GP just looks at me and sees I'm in better shape than them, so just thinks its a vanity issue that doesn't warrant further investigation. Its frustrating, and I'm not discounting that a specialist would be similarly dismissive - even though Im quite sure this is a symptom of an underlying medical issue.

This is why I just think f*k it. After 4 years of this, and countless blood tests and time taken off work to go to the GP, that it'll actually be more inexpensive to just get the surgery done. Spending 2 grand to have my old face back and not having people comment that I look unwell, is worth it to me.

Hopefully theres someone on this forum that can confirm if the surgery will actually work, before I go ahead with it.

Can you try a different approach for your mouth ulcers?

Surgery seems like a last resort.

I should have added, I stopped using the cream approximately a year ago once I realised it could be the cause. it didn't work very well any way. I was hoping the fat (or water retention if thats what it is) would go away after I stopped using it. But theres been no change.

I saw your comment about $2k to get the surgery to “have your old face back” keep in mind surgery will never make you look the way you used to. It will make you look the way you look now but with more scarring and potential for irregularities between the two sides. I don’t want to scare you just keep in mind that many cosmetic surgeries are ultimately regretted because they can’t actually deliver on the desired outcome.

At least now it’s all you, if you get the surgery and still aren’t happy (which is quite likely) now you’ll be angry and the doc and anyone who recommended it too.

Hi the surgery I'm looking at takes makes incisions from inside the mouth. So I don't need to worry about scarring (being visible).

It was only a figure of speech when I write "get my old face back". But I dont want this unhealthy bloated look. It makes going to the gym pointless. Have a six pack and low BF, but a bloated face makes it look pointless. I wear a suit and tie at work, and that makes it far worse as the lower part of the face kinda stops below the neckline so I dont have a neck.

And though I appreciate responses warning about surgery, I very much doubt your final paragraph will be the case. Of the five or six people I know that have had cosmetic surgery, all were actually happy with the results. Whether mine would be a success or wont be will it pure speculation however, so I cant comment on it either way. That's why I came on to this forum just to see if anybody has had the procedure.

possibly. But my cheeks shouldn't balloon out like Tom Tucker out of family guy.

If it makes you feel any better I look like Hank Hill in gear...
If your blood work is ok just be confident in your looks. Facial surgery rarely looks right.
Good luck

I thought you looked like a dr suess character?!

In all seriousness I’ve never seen anyone that had facial surgery and looked good after. Look at all these girls trying to look like Kylie Jenner (who also looks awful), whole generation of lizard girls.

Google Jen Selter. She’s like the original instagram whore. She used to look like the girl next door, now she looks like the joker.

I know the OP isn’t trying to go that far, my only point is they don’t have facial surgery down yet at all. You look like how you look. It sounds gay, but work on liking yourself for who u are. I’ve seen some ugly fatso’s with a ton of confidence. A dude in good shape with chubby cheeks is in a way better spot.
