I have completely lost respect for the sport (if you can call it that) of Boxing

ad

Hey kids, Ed here with a subject that may hurt your feelings. Especially if you love Boxing.

In the past, I have been a huge fan of Boxing. I grew up in the Pre-Rapist Mike Tyson Era. How could one not be a fan of Boxing?
However, as of late, I really find myself questioning the legitimacy of boxing. Seriously. Spare me the “Sweet Science” Bullshit. I’ve preached that before.
Ya know, I think I feel like one of those guys who finds himself questioning his religion after years of only knowing his religion.
Perhaps someone who still believes in the “sweet science” can bring me back to the fold.
Tell me, how the hell does someone like Connor McTapper go as many rounds as he did with a boxer who some consider is the greatest of all time?
I just watched the Bare knuckle fighting championship as Artem Lobov beat Pauline Malagnatti in a fricken boxing match. This shit does not happen in real sport.
You will never see a Connor McGregor Gold his own in a Greco-Roman, freestyle, or folk style wrestling match with a world champion. He wouldn’t make it one round with a NAIA wrestler. You wouldn’t see some guy who was a stud on his local city league baseball or basketball team hang with Michael Jordan or a Derek Jeter. But yet we are seeing guys hang with the best in the world in boxing. I can promise you’d a great grappler like GSP isn’t going to last 30 seconds in a wrestling match with a Cael Sanderson. Cael is retired and could be drunk and out of shape and still beat any decent grappler.
Does that make sense? There is no reason in the world that these great boxers are getting beat or even having amateurs hang with them at a professional level unless boxing is of course a bullshit sport.
Ed! That’s blasphemy!
Maybe it is kids. Change my mind?

I love deontay wilder. No homo. He’s a hard hitting so of a bitch. Is he boxing with the “sweet science”?
Or running around the ring with his arm cocked back ready to unload.

Sorry if I hurt anyone’s feelings. Mine are equally hurt, because I am no longer a believer.

All my love, no homo
Ed

WRT boxing, you hit the nail on the head Brother Ed, it's about era's. Tyson is the classic example.

There is also an irony in your frustration. MMA was created, more or less, to answer the question of who/what is best. The real answer is none of them necessarily, but ironically; when they become MMA experts, they are no longer top class as individual sports.

With boxing, I think it still has a lot to offer. For all we know, we could be in the middle of the Tyson Fury era and not even know it! Keep the faith, and follow those in their prime, their era... the rest is just spectacle!

You have to keep an eye on the hungry, up and coming kids. There always is going to be someone better. And it sure as hell isn't Anthony Joshua, what a joke.

Gervonta Davis and Erick Lubin for example.

Floyd money mayweather seen the chance to make some quick easy money and turned the sport into WWE. Bad move for boxing but you cant knock the man for making money.

Wilder is nothing but a browler with long reach. I would really like to see him work on boxing, he definitely has great potential.

Yup. I’m hoping that fury worked a little bit on his power without compromising his speed. Looks like he did in his last fight.

All major sports are now theatre...pap for the masses. Speaking of sports - if you really want to get offended: Break-dancing is now being considered for inclusion as an Olympic sport. Fuck me runnin' - it's all going to hell in a hand basket...and to add insult to injury, hand basket weaving will probably be a sport soon too.

Ozninjaguy's picture

Yeah...and let's not mention synchronised swimming or I'll blow a gasket. The only parts of the Olympics that I used to watch is the boxing, gymnastics and weight lifting. I actually haven't tuned into an Olympics broadcast for the last 3 or four games. No interest anymore.

If you knew anything about me, you would know that I don't talk shit. So I will take your post as being naive ignorance rather than an insult: https://edition.cnn.com/2019/02/21/sport/breakdancing-olympics-paris-202...

PS - the basket weaving comment was an attempt at humour - obviously lost.

It's all good mate. it was late at night here and my reply could have been better. Hey - cut us grump old men a break ;-)

Ozninjaguy's picture

lol...don't forget the baggy- arsed pants, and ball cap on sideways: apparently that's going to be the official uniform.

It's all about money. If they ended things like Tyson at 20. People lose interest. If they make it look like the other person has a single chance of winning. Boom. People are interested and willing to drop money to watch it. Its a sad time these days

You see how bad the AAU world champ wrestler just beat Ben Askrin? And Ben is legit. He actually medaled in the Olympics.Current world Cham destroyed him.Boxing not the same.I would agree.I think part of the problem is that MMA guy use smaller gloves and are use to getting hit much harder.Remember though,we havn’t seen the best fight the best.

Engineereddisaster's picture

I hate that we are leaving David Taylor out of the Convo. Lol

Manshit's picture

He is still a bad ass and trains a lot of the best in MMA but Jordan is another level!!

Boxing is no different than Japanese Sumo Wrestling , its rigged from the first bell.

I might get negged for saying it , but its the truth. The guys that get into that ring have every bit of the knock out power needed to end those fights in a few rounds.

Engineereddisaster's picture

Nah, this is off topic. negging is not possible.

I am under no grand illusion that the Tyson era was clean. Don king would never allow it.

Sanderson was a thing of beauty. Still is. His wrestling was absolute perfection. His coaching is absolute perfection. He turned Penn State into a Dynasty. There isn’t a dynasty in d1 college sports that even comes close to what Cael created and has going in D1 wrestling.
Iowa who?
It’s interesting, I usually attend the D1 National Championships every year. Watch the Iowa boys, mean as hell, drinking thumbtacks in their Gatorade..Iowa wresting.
Watch the Penn state team. They are having fun and they love it. Light hearted champions. Cael is the master of mindset.
Could some badass hang with Cael? Hell no. Could Jon Jones who was a very good wrestler hand with Cael? Not even on juice.
Could Jon Jones hang with Deontay Wilder in a boxing match Lol? Maybe. I wouldn’t hesitate to place a bet for Jones. That shouldn’t even be a valid statement.

Engineereddisaster's picture

We better add aleksandr karelin to that list. Lol.

Engineereddisaster's picture

Of course John Smith should make the list. His brother Pat should be there as well. Surely Dan Gable can’t be left out of the conversation.

Engineereddisaster's picture

Kurt is a fag. Lol. I’m kidding. I spelled badass wrong

Bill1976's picture

I’m looking coward to see fury knock wilders ass put. People say he doesn’t have knockout power but that’s shot. He has 20 knockouts.

Engineereddisaster's picture

Now, don’t go bringing up Fury. I love that guy (no homo). The more I hear about his life story and the more I watch him, the more I like him. Let’s leave him out of the convo. Lol
