I actually prefer the consistency and flavour of concentrate as Isolate can be quite bitter and thin, but the digestability of isolate puts it in another league especially when trying to bulk and get stronger as you are able to eat a proper meal much quicker Smile Not tried egg protein powder before ...Soy protein is the pits also lol

press1's picture

Soy mimicks estro does it, I never knew that!? I just know the odd time I have a protein bar and it has soy in it I then feel crap and bloated for half an hour after! I wonder which gets into the blood and muscle quicker - Egg or Isolate protein?

You are in a super catabolic state afer working out so hit the fast acting protein/carbs immediately postwo to blunt the catabolic effect and get back into anabolic state. Any blunting effect from carbs immediately postwo far outweighs the benefits those carbs provide in helping to prevent catabolism. The only way we build muscle is if we are in an anabolic state moreso than a catabolic state so do whatever you can to favor anabolism.

I have always read about approximately a 4hr window postwo when your body is most susceptable to nutrient uptake. Nutrient Timing by Dr. Ivy and Dr. Portman should be in everyone's library who is interested in nutrient timing and maximizing the gains from their workouts. It will take you to the next level if you know when and how eat surrounding your workouts.

I believe going off personal feeling the post workout feeding window is a high as 24 hrs as my appetite is always huge during this time as is the desire for protein & carbs - I'm sure I've read it somewhere also.

Do it Rusty!

Would love to read it bro ;) and I'm sure many more would also like to read it

Are you exceeding the 1 scoop 20 gram dose?
Are you pounding them down?

Drink smaller amounts, slower.

felony's picture

X2

I learned a while ago if I pound my shakes I'm going to regret it. Bloated feeling. Slowly drinking the mix is the way to go.

Fred G.Sanfords's picture

Exactly Drinking slower helped me out a lot, it’s best to sip them in my opinion.

sunamcaxa's picture

I do alway 3 scoops, alway do a bit more then I have to

I will try smaller amounts

You won't digest much more than 20 grams so you're literally pissing your money away.

Liquid protein does not stay in the digestive tract long enough to be fully digested.

Best to get your protein from food. Your body can absorb nearly all of the protein you eat. Whatever your muscles don't use will be converted to energy.

The maximum rate that whey protein can be absorbed is about 8-10 grams per hour.

It takes one and a half hours for a whey protein shake to pass through the section of the gut that can actually absorb it. So a whey shake will yield about 15 grams of absorbed protein.

So no matter how much whey you dump in that shake you will only ingest about 15 grams of protein. Now the good news:

Digestive enzymes (added by quality makers of whey protein drinks) can increase the absorption rate by up to 125%

Told the doc my shoulder hurts when I rake leaves, He told me not to rake anymore and sent me home.

felony's picture

I'm gonna tell the wife my shoulder hurts when I take out the trash and see how that goes. I'll get back to.

Edit: Yea that did't work.

Makwa's picture

You need a note from the doc saying you can't take out the garbage cause it hurts it your shoulder. Doc's orders. Probably still won't work though.

Greg's picture

You need to get a scrypt.

When we had a very young child and a toddler, I told my doc that I liked to do more backpacking but my wife was against me going off like that (leaving her alone with the kids for 2 or 3 days. It was bad enough I was spending so much time in the gym)

He wrote me a scrypt to go to the gym 3 times a week and go hiking/backpacking once a month.

Nice. I like it.

you mean don't drink it if it bloats you?

Yes. If you've tried everything to reduce the bloat, it could simply be you're allergic to dairy.

This should not have made me laugh as much as it actually did!! I’m stealing this for my texts

LMAO. Good advice doc!

To the OP - very common problem. Some guys that can't tolerate the whey very well have done better on beef protein, so you could try that. Just have to watch your sodium intake though as the beef proteins I've seen all have high sodium levels.

But I have the same problem, when I wake up in the morning my stomach is flat and tight, looks great, but at the end of the day I look like totally different after whey shakes. On days I have time to get all my protein naturally I retain the flat stomach. So my ultimate goal is to cut out the whey eventually if possible. Not an easy task though the way I work.

sunamcaxa's picture

hello bro, what you mean with beef protein? meat or really beef protein to drink? Im not that good to this things that’s why Im asking Smile

As HJ said some people, myself included digest beef protein easier than a lot of whey. I usually have a few shakes a day and half will be beef the other half whey iso.

https://www.bulkpowders.co.uk/beef-protein-isolate-97-hydrobeef.html

Is the best I’ve found, low in salt and currently 40% off.

herpjunkie111's picture

I may try that one out myself, my brand needs some improvement, lol. But I'm sure it's just like with the whey, some are far superior to others.

press1's picture

I use that one also pal - like Growmore says its way easier to digest, no gas or bloating one bit as it isn't dairy. Only problem I've found with it is if you leave it in the fridge for several hours while mixed up, it conjeals into a thick undrinkable gel. So its best to make it with cold water literally when you want to have it. Drinking cow meat is a funny feeling Lol

herpjunkie111's picture

Gotcha. I always do that anyway, mix right before drinking. That one mix well with just a good shaker bottle or you need to use the blender?

press1's picture

Yes it mixes great even though a few say it doesn't, I always just use a shaker bottle with the mesh ball in it and a few shakes and its mixed. Thats with Dextrose and glutamine in it also man.

herpjunkie111's picture

I'm using the Vitargo S2 for my fast carbs now instead of dextrose, I tolerate it much better, but I'll try that beef protein you guys are running and see if I like it, that Carnivore just isn't cutting it, shouldn't have to choke down a shake while desperately trying to resist the urge to puke, lol.

I've bought some brands of whey in the past that would clump up and mix so poorly I had no choice but to use the blender every time and that's too time consuming, too much cleaning and washing, that's why I asked.

press1's picture

Get a bag of the Isopro 97 also mate - best protein there is in my eyes. Only comes in unflavoured so get a few of the flavour pots also - Vanilla & Raspberry are my faves. Their dextrose is very good also if you fancy just trying 1kg of it. May as well get a few bits if you are ordering from the U.K, although they may have an outlet in the US now not sure.

herpjunkie111's picture

Thanks bro, I'll check that out too, you're right might as well make the order worth the shipping cost.

herpjunkie111's picture

Yes, they make powdered beef protein as well, just like the whey, mix with liquid. Not all places sell it, you'll have to look around or order it off the internet. Carnivore is one of the major brands I see on the shelves. I've tried it, it's ok, taste could be better. I may try some other brands.
