basskiller89Intermittent fasting has been shown to increase GH output by 2-3x normal readings
Testosterone increases nitrogen retention within muscles allowing for growth
Personally, I have used 23/1 hour fasting protocols for short periods of time and completely annihilated fat from my body. It is important to maintain sodium and potassium levels as restricted calories can lead to restricted amounts of salts in your body. Restricted calories leads to restricted micro nutrients so I would advise supplementing a multi vitamin. It can be easy to forget about water when you're not hungry or consuming food for the majority of the day and this is also a huge mistake. If you properly piece together your diet IM protocols can be just as effective if not more than other dieting protocols. It clearly comes down to calories in versus calories out as the most basic concept regardless of which style of dieting you chose. I would say find what works for you in terms of fat loss and tolerability
The first few days suck. You get headaches and brain fogs. After you deplete all glycogen from your body you begin to develop ketones. Once this occurs from my personal experience the diet is very easy. There are no headaches and hunger pains are minimal
Aye, the benefit of ketones is the appetite suppression. It depends on the hormones of the individual, mainly leptin and ghrelin, whether a ketogenic diet is necessary at all. For many, simple calorie restriction will suffice, and no glycogen depletion will be necessary. This is obviously preferable for muscle fullness and performance. For those who struggle with overeating and get withdrawal-like symptoms from food deprivation—these people exist—this sort of extreme becomes a viable option.
I’m not anti-keto or anti-IF, but do I think they’re absolutely necessary? No. Not remotely. There shouldn’t be any nutritional gaps even with a calorie restricted diet, assuming the diet itself is balanced and isn’t extreme or a fad. Getting requisite micronutrients without supplements should be very easy, perhaps except vitamin D depending on the individual’s whereabouts.
I also agree with everying you said, but I'll add that I've had very good success with keto. If I incorporate keto while on cycle, I'll follow palumbo's regimen as it ensures I'm getting enough protein to avoid going catabolic.
This coupled with 3-4 HIIT sessions a week has been am excellent fat burning combination for me.
The gear is what prevents you from going catabolic, even on a low protein diet. Natties would never get away with cutting the way we do even on ludicrously high protein regimens. I’d always recommend the highest amount of carbs you can get away with for general cutting because of performance and nutritional benefits (not contest prep, that’s a different animal).
basskiller89Well said brother
I do agree with you fully
