Nice to see the effectiveness of it in numbers. I've actually been taking both metformin and berberine for a long time now. I use the prolonged release metformin in the morning and a glucose disposal supplement which has 750 mg of berberine pre workout (I have a lot of carbs pre and intra workout). It also has gymnema sylvestre in it which is very beneficial for insulin sensitivity and use chromium picolinate too. Cycle 8 weeks on and 2-4 weeks off. Has worked wonders for my body composition and all health markers
Thanks for the input dude. In your opinion, is there any muscle-related trade-off for being so vigorous in the approach?
I wonder about that with berberine. I took 800mg the other day and went hypo after about an hour
But im wondering if it impacts hypertrophy?
Nope not from my experience or from what I noticed anyway. If there was any it would of been negligible imo cause I've had good success with mass gaining phases since. If anything I've been able to grow and look lot fuller on less carbs. Dose (not too much) and timing (along with biggest carb meals) is key imo with berberine as it acts quicker than my sustained release metformin. That's why I take it pre workout where my biggest carb intake for the day is. I did read studies ages ago on how it can inhibit mtor. But I have read since from knowledgeable people that the mechanism that it does through kinda counterbalances that effect. I do also supplement leucine with meals in hope of it cancelling it out as that increases muscle protein synthesis as well.
To be honest there's too many benefits to it to worry about the little (if any) effect it could have on hypertrophy.
Agreed and i firmly believe, from basic testing this week alone, that simply timing it right will be the best mitigator.
Thanks again fella
In you opinion could it be a way to enter ketosis more quickly?Say if you're doing a cyclical keto like a re feed diet?
That's a solid question
I am gonna think as I type... I know for fact that you can enter ketosis faster by depleting carbs via HIT or HIIT.
But with the berberine... something is different... it's like it skips a metabolic beat.... you can enter hypoglycemia quite rapidly, so the body doesn't have a moment to switch to an alternate fuel supply. It's not just a case of the body having ketone fuel but not being adapted and you having keto-fog... its about a complete absence of any fuel for the body and brain which is ultimately why hypo's are so dangerous and can leave people in comas. No glycogen + no ketones = uh-oh!
I am going to say it is not something I would leverage to clean out glucose in an effort to enter ketosis faster. I think a better way is to allow the body enter ketosis naturally, overnight and then you know the fuel is there. At that point, an a.m. HIIT session will deplete carbs and your body should take over from there!
That's just my thinking on it, but I am sure others will think differently.
Have you played with the berb yet M?
No but have been reading the info since I read the other thread and I find it interesting.I know some who have used metaformin to enter ketosis.I have never tried it but find it interesting.
Well if metformin can help then berb can I would say.
Maybe explore it more, I just know that I personally can enter hypo quite easily!
The berb is healthier all round though, compared with met
The research man +
Lol
All credit goes to D on this. Hes got a great thread going
