The Power of the United States Military

The Power of the United States Military by CONFLICT.

There is an ongoing topic of discussion that is littered with innumerable facts and opinions. If we left out the opinions, and counted the facts, we'd indefinitely have our answer. Is The United States the most powerful nation on Earth?

A common debate is whether or not nations like China, Russia, Pakistan, or North Korea could conquer the U.S. Many people even fret about the threat other nations foolishly throw at us. Spending countless hours a week watching the news and wondering if North Korea really will go to war with us. Should we be worried?
Here, we will compare our nations military might to what is commonly known as our most worthy adversary - China. Lets look at the statistics.
For starters, the United States is the highest spender in defense coming in at over $700 billion a year. The next in line? China, whose yearly spending averages at slightly over $140 billion a year, The United States spends more on defense than China, Russia, United Kingdom, France, Saudi Arabia, Japan, India, and Germany combined. For those of you who aren't familiar with the importance finances in defense spending, it is simply the backbone of an able military force.

We haven't scratched the service.

Lets compare capabilities.

We have ten aircraft carriers. The largest warships ever built. Mobile military bases with offensive and defense capabilities. With a range not measured in miles, but in tens of years. Usually escorted by destroyers carrying the worlds most advanced air defense system, and nuclear powered attack submarines, these aircraft carriers hold around 5,000 able bodied personnel and 80-90 fixed wing aircraft. So no, these aircraft carriers are not vulnerable to attack by land, air, or sea, and China does not have the technology to track, lock on, or target a carrier. China also lacks the firepower necessary to significantly damage an aircraft carrier to the point of disabling it. We have ten in service at this very moment. Two in reserve. Three under construction. China has one which we consider an amphibious assault ship due to its small size, and one under construction.

Lets move on to a comparison of land systems.

The M1a2 Abrams with steel encased depleted uranium armor, depleted uranium penetration rounds, and gun turret stabilization technology, offers its usually combat experienced crew NBC protection and separation from fuel tanks in case of an unlikely heat round penetrating the armor. The diverse capabilities of this tank are too many to mention. This is the most advanced tank. During countless engagements involving enemy 125 mm fire, and in all other instances, none were ever destroyed.

The Chinese Type 99 has a 125 mm gun, and efficient weapon stabilization for the secondary gunner only. It fires uranium rounds that are unable to penetrate the armor of an Abrams.
China has around 700 of these tanks, while we have 6,324 Abrams in service.
We have 25,782 armored fighting vehicles most of which are amphibious and can be deployed from air and sea. We can also deploy them from one of our nine amphibious assault ships which double as aircraft carriers. These AFVs can also be brought to land by 10 amphibious transport docks, or 12 dock landing ships. China has 4,788 AFVs and 3 amphibious assault ships.

There are 8,400 attack helicopters in the world. The United States owns 6,400 of the most advanced attack helicopters.
United States air power, 13,683. Fighter jets with stealth technology insure that the enemy aircraft is destroyed without the pilot knowing he was about to be engaged.
The number that accounts for China's air power is 2,700. Their latest fighter jets in service are generations behind ours.
While their average fighter jet does have greater capabilities in travel range and speed, its counter measures, radar, weapon systems, and payloads are significantly far behind.
The Chinese j-15s have hard to low observable characteristics, but the average U.S. fighter jet has air to air refueling capabilities, an electronic warfare system, an extremely advanced radar, very large super cruise range, health monitoring systems, and the most precise guided, lock on weaponry on fighter jets. None of which China's most advanced fighter jet has.

While China does take the lead in available manpower, outnumbering us 5 to 1, they are using not only severely outdated hardware, but less training for their troops. The U.S. government ensures that almost all of our soldiers are deployed within four years to become experienced. Our weapon systems, training, and communications far outdo that of the Chinese. The United States military performs more joint exorcises than any other military in the world to ensure fighting capability in any situation. They are known for winning against the odds.

It is said that with training and technology taken into account, the United States could fight the next five most powerful countries combined and easily procure a victory.

If anyone disagrees feel free to comment with the absence of opinion. Statistics and facts are far more convincing.

As for now, I would highly suggest watching my video.

I can only speak for the US army but we have the latest technology, the best training and most highly skilled soldiers in the world. Infantry airborne Rangers in the 75th Ranger regiment, green berets, and delta force. We can be anywhere in the world within less than 24 hours. Our military is absolutely incredible.

Area-1255, the only problem I have with your video is its lack of footage of Green Berets and Rangers. Can I get a hooah?!

Go Army!

I'm personally not concerned at all of war breaking out with North Korea, much less China, at least, not in the immediate future. Kim Jong-un is flexing his muscle, just as his father (and grandfather) before him, even if he appears more erratic. I will say this: I was stationed at an instillation I will not disclose, in South Korea, and cannot tell you the number of times Kim Jong-Il threatened to turn my camp into a lake of fire. That's not to say North Korea could not do some damage, because it most certainly could, especially with its artillery being so close to Seoul. However, the U.S. military would annihilate them!

China is a different story altogether. One could argue they would involve themselves, should another Korean conflict breakout, which is a small possibility. Yet, China is more concerned with their U.S. trade relations than they are with the welfare of their neighbors to the south. If I had to guess, they would not involve themselves unless Russia were to get in the mix, which is also doubtful.

Another thing: the number of U.S. Special Forces increased substantially under the Obama Administration, contrary to widely held belief. In fact, under the previous Administration, more money was spent on American military than China and Russia combined; my training alone cost upwards of $500,000. Believe me when I say the average group of specially trained operators would be able to handle more than their fair share of starving, mistreated KPA soldiers. There is also technology used by the American military the public is not privy to have knowledge about, and I am sure it is mind-blowing.

Lastly, we would not have to go it alone should a conflict breakout with North Korea. Japan and South Korea would undoubtedly ally themselves with the U.S., and, depending on the seriousness of the conflict, other countries would follow suit. It’s not as though we would not receive help, unless the U.S. alienated itself from other countries unnecessarily. That wouldn’t happen, would it? I mean, Donald Trump gets on well with most leaders of the free world.

NATO is bound by treaty and historical ties to come to our aid as if they were attacked themselves. Undoubtedly, The aussies, kiwi's, indians, South Africa and others outside of NATO would side with the west. We would have access to supply routes and airspace the Chinese would need to fight for.

My bet, a war with North Korea would be over as soon as it started. It would look like desert storm. And all the fears (justifiable) about the devastation to South Korea or Japan will not be nearly as bad as the worst case scenario put forth. If we attack/retaliate, it will be widespread and massive. No doubt new tech will be revealed like it was during the gulf war. (Remember, smart bombs and stealth technology was not widely known by most at that time.)

I doubt if anyone will come to the aid of North Korea. China and Russia will factor in what a global war will involve, Both will do some saber rattling. Russia can't afford an all out war and will need to consider that part of the old soviet block are now NATO members. China is far less prepared and does not have the global reach the US has. China too will be facing NATO forces... That is a prospect they will not want to face.

North Korean public and military support would be gained as good will supplies of food, clothes, and other basic needs are air dropped in advance of a south korean push to the north.

There is no fight if loyalty is based in fear and bribes and not national identity. The highly paid officers of the north korean army are opportunistic. They most likely will revolt as soon as it was clear their paycheck was no longer forthcoming. The rank and file, more fearful of us than their officers will probably surrender on sight as the Iraqi army did.

The north korean population would probably cheer as the south korean army lead the way into Pyongyang.

Pale's picture

It will still be a mass casualty event for South Korea. The only hope is the North Korean generals standing down.

Greg's picture

More than likely, but hopefully not as massive as imagined.

I would not doubt that the next new weapon coming out of the skunkworks will be stealth drones carrying EMP weapons. Imagine 100's of drones hovering silently and unnoticed over every North Korean target. Then when all diplomatic efforts fail, BOOM, every missile launch pad, command center, comms, radar systems, trucks, planes, trains, everything just dies. Old fashioned artillery would be hit next from sea based artillery.
And, hopefully, our defense systems will perform better than we advertise.

Pale's picture

All we can do is hope as we inch closer to finding out. If we do use EMP's we can hopefully effectively shut down their ability to communicate. Basic artillery (unfortunately) will be unaffected.

+1 to you brother my best friend was in South Korea for a while said the men would walk with their pinky fingers held out of respect or something he bring back lots of good stories

Christophany's picture

Many Koreans hold respect for the American military; however, there are those who walked with their middle fingers out as well. All in all, it was one of my favorite deployments.

I worry about the tensions of esculating provocations daily.
No one wins in ww3.

I feel sorry for all the soldiers and their families.
I feel sorry for all the innocent people who die and suffer as a result of war.

North korea is a dangerous disaster that cant end well for anybody if war breaks out.

Assasanating the leadership if possible would be best option.

It will be a guaranteed nuclear war with them if it kicks off.

I do not trust russia or china and if those two fight together thats a worry.
Then you have iran and pakistan.

I do believe though that china will do as america done in ww2 and sit it out untill absolutley neccesary and either fight on the winning side or clean up the scraps and try world domination.

I try not to follow trump and the american politics anymore but if he goes through with his massive milatary expansion im all for that.

As brother darth said below upgrades are drastically needed.

If i had one wish in this world it would be for world wide peace forever without any chance if war.

Respect to all milatary personel and vets aeell as their families.

You have scumbag poiticians getting all this money for yapping their fat traps yet the heros in the milatary get paid fuckall.

There pay packets are priceless imo.

Fuck the pension. Every serving soldier should get paid ten million dollars tax free upon retuning.

If they are deseaced the family should get it.

World peace please.

China is now on "our side" cause North Korea keeps testing ballistic missiles I believe a assassination of Kim would be best case scenario also that guy is crazy but between USA Japan Canada South Korea it's a no brainer who would win the o my thing Russia has better then us is tanks cause they have way more of them but it's all air attacks these days and we have the strongest air force in the world

https://youtu.be/ubNRaDv7qxg

This is a ok video it's short but like I said below imagine what we are not shown about our military

TheFlash85's picture

No doubt america can make crumbs out of nk, i dont want to get in to all that.

The problem is who goes first? We attack them, bye bye south korea and japan.

There are alot of allied soldiers in south korea that would perish, hence my comment no one wins.

Nk will go first but we have a ton of navy on their coast right now to bomb there bombs out of the sky before it could do any damage to us south or Japan but hey who knows I'm just a meathead lol

Pale's picture

Keep in mind while we do have air refueling down to a science those tankers are also our weak spot. They are sitting ducks in the sky and our enemies know it. Until and unless we establish air superiority against a China or Russia we will be severely limited.

Our carriers while giving us the ability to project power around the world are also large targets. Our enemies have known forever that they could not afford to compete with us on flat tops wisely chose to develop carrier killer weapons. Granted none have been tested in combat yet but realistically a swarm of missiles is going to be a huge test. A tactical nuke would also render a flat top useless. So again, until we have air superiority and coastal waters locked down our carriers will be stuck in stand off range, which will also limit how far our carrier based aircraft can project power.

Our tanks. Due in large part to our cockiness our enemies have developed superior defenses for their tanks. Now we are stuck buying the latest generation from Israel.

We do have awesome attack helicopters but we also have a huge shortage of pilots for them.

Like others said, we have a lot of nice equipment but we also have weaknesses. We must use smart tactics or we may end up embarrassed.

333's picture

The technology we have is supreme look at the stuff they show us imagine what they keep secret.

We didn't use to be the top (...-70's). Regan made this happen and because of it, the Cold War ended (a huge factor). We've continued on that path, which is what we should do. Props to the military.

Hitler thought the same thing he had the tech. He did concour almost all of Europe and he would have taken Russia had he not tried to take the oil fields he could have stormed right for moscow and he would have taken all of Europe and Russia except the UK.
My point is that the usa which im a true Patriot and would fight to the death to keep that beautiful flag flying but if we have china attack and invade the west coast were in trouble. They will quickly take the west coast up to the rocky Mountains and then the usa will stomp them back to china but we would be unable to invade china with 6 billion men women and children. We would have to start nuking the country to break them and end the war.
No one wants this is bad for business for every country out there.
I do agree that now that trump is in office our military will only get stronger. If Hillary would have won she would have made serious cut backs that would have allowed china to eventually catch up to our tech and power.
What about Russia taking all of the arctic right now we only have 2 ice breakers they have 20 or so. We can't compete with them there and thats alot of natural resources that will make them richer and stronger over the years to come

Don't underestimate the tenacity of your enemy. The Korean War, Vietnam, Afghanistan... Numbers are not enough. Remember the Spartans.

It's not so much how big our military is, it's how it's run.

Gettingbig's picture

I definitely agree and wish I would have used those examples over hitler much better examplesespecially Vietnam in all of recorded history vietnam has never been concured by an invading army. Gorilla warfare is serious now they call it insurgency but its the same thing unwinnable
