Does Test give you more power?
ad
From people's experience does Test Enth give you power when you lift? I read from different people it does and it doesn't. I've been on it for 6 weeks and I don't notice anymore strength when I lift. I'm actually stuck in a plateau not getting past 160 lbs dumb bell chest incline/decline and arms not getting past 130lbs barbell curl. Arms are my weakness and because of that it's impacting my chest press. Thoughts?
After my extreme high dose of 600 mg week, I'm lowering it to 150mg a week due to high blood counts.

I have gained in reps and total weight in all lifts five weeks in on a 12wk cycle. Are you specifically training for strength? I've noticed that many bodybuilders peak in strength because they only train for hypertrophy. I usually cycle back and forth between strength and hypertrophy to get the best of both. Try to lower your rep range 3-6 reps and go heavier on your compound lifts
At 50, I gave up on lifting heavy, it wasn't worth the time off I had to take for the injuries I kept aggravating. I went light working on form, really squeezing the muscles, really playing the neg's and boom, more growth in 2 years than in the last 10. I also threw out the bench, if I can't get an angle on my lifts, i don't do them.
Not all of us are blessed with the Genes of The Beast, remember your 40, not 25. Lift safe. And sorry, I don't notice much of a power increase with Test, i notice a tremendous increase in energy and state of well being - which probably keeps me motivated and it has definitely changed my body composition.
JoeyTorontoI got the idea by researching online and a website created by a guy named Mike Matthews wrote books on lifting heavy and how he was doing it all wrong before with doing normal work outs like everyone else, he said he did the more reps less weights for years without much progress. Then he researched about %85 of RM I think the term and after working out doing that method he said he transformed. He mentioned that people who do the 12 etc reps and 4-5 sets will take longer to build then heavy weights. Here's a PDF of of his workouts http://cdn.muscleforlife.com/wp-content/uploads/opt-ins/all/year-one-bls...
One of the boosk he wrote is called Bigger, Leaner, Stronger.
Website is https://www.muscleforlife.com
I just did my biceps and triceps today with 10 reps 4 sets, lower weights and noticed more burn in my biceps then heavy weights. But i heard it means nothing.
So many different opinions, methods, and myths out there, you just don't know what to believe.
everybody is also different. I do have heavy days, they are just not as heavy as before....
JoeyTorontoYea, I'm gonna do lighter more reps for some exercises but for dead lifts and squats I'm going to do do it heavy which is recommended. I'm at 310 lbs for both.
Great idea. Focus on strength for your big compound movements at the beginning of your workout and then move on to your hypertrophy stuff (lower weight, higher reps). You are stimulating different muscle fibers at different weights and both can lead to growth for a beginner.
If you looking to gain power keep your Reps under 4 heavy as you can go with good form.. Last set heavy as you can go with good forum 2 reps 4 sets total .. This method is how I train when just looking to get stronger won't do much as far as adding size
JoeyTorontoSo for size I need to do more reps and lighter weight then? I'm going to try that with biceps. According to sources,my size (wrist size and neck size etc) my ideal size for arms should be 17.5 flexed, anything bigger will look ridiculous and smaller will not look proportionate So I am 1 1/2" from that. My chest, I don't have to worry about I have a naturally bigger chest, I'm at 48" just need to get it more defined, same with shoulders, naturally broader shoulders but I need more muscle on my shoulders.
I actually read on bodybuilding.com that heavy weight/low reps works with compound exercises but for biceps etc, lower weights and more reps should be done.
Rustyhooker160 each hand?
JoeyTorontoLOL No..80 each hand..I just started this 9 months ago. It's the arms issue, it's slowly getting bigger...slowly. If you don't have enough strength in the biceps you won't be able to lift much weight. I have naturally slim arms, some guys don't and it's easy for them to get their arms bigger.
Biceps have zero effect on a bench press. It's your triceps and lats that pick up the slack. Biceps are primarily a cosmetic muscle in regards that only basic movements use them. Triceps on the other hand control a hell of a lot more. You need to build your triceps and upper back/lats and you will break the bench plateau. Although it is important to let your triceps do some of the work, you need to make sure you are squeezing your chest at the top of the movement and stretching at the bottom. Or get ready for shoulder pain and plateaus.
JoeyTorontoGreat ty, I'm also wondering why my biceps are not getting bigger. I might switch to lower weight more reps from heavy weight and lower reps and see if that helps.
What are you eating before the gym. Are you giving your body the nutrients to lift that extra weight.
JoeyTorontoI work out 2 hours after breakfast which is 1 egg/egg whites, 1 slice of multi grain bread and 1/2 avocado. And 1/2 hour before workout PreWorkout Drink. I read I need 25g of whey protein as well. I need to cut not bulk because I need to bring down my fat % and eating too much macros will make me gain fat.
RustyhookerAhhhh. Then my advice is that with just 9 months in and pushing those 80's......be happy. Thats a lot of weight in a short amount of time. Muscle grows faster than connective tissue, so imo keep reps above 8. And really be proud you're at that level.
Whats your main goal? Power or adding mass? And whats your program look like? 4 x 12....5 x 5 ?
High rbc.....on trt or cycle you really need to donate blood often. Save a life
JoeyTorontoI'm doing heavy weights I learned from some website, so just 3 sets, 4-6 reps with 3 mins rest between sets, . 7 days a week , 5 days 1 body part a day then weekend I workout arms and shoulders again because I need to build it up more. So I don't know if it's still good progress now you know it's heavy weights 4-6 reps. Because usually guys who do %85 of RM, do double their lower weights.
Just now I learned that heavy weights only works well with squats, dead lifts and compound lifting, and for isolation exercises lighter weights.
My goal is just to add mass. I started HIIT cardio again 3x week and the fat is burning off.
And there's s big part of your issue. Training way too much. Where's your time to actually grow?
You train arms twice a week, plus your triceps get trained on chest day, your biceps get a hammering on back day. They don't get chance to recover and grow.
You train shoulders twice a week, plus they get a beating on chest day. See where I'm going with this??????
JoeyTorontoYes, I get that. But I do chest once a week. For example Monday is chest, Tuesday is Back, Wed is Shoulders, Thursday is Bi/Tri, Fri Legs. So there is a few days rest between body parts, Chest is Monday, Bi/Tri is on Thursday and Sunday.
You're still training too much. A guy in your position should be testing 3 or 4 days per week.
JoeyTorontoWhat do you mean in my position?
Trying to gain size.
And it should have said training, not testing. Love autocorrect.....
RustyhookerFor me, I go heavy and gain strength but not mass. And if I go for volume the mass comes on nicely. Everyone reacts different.
