vertical leg press destroyed my quads.

ad

I've never done these till now. They killed me more than squats. My quads were toast...
I must have been doing squats wrong a long, or these are just awesome.

Anyone else have this experience with the vertical leg press?

It's hard to go past a verticle leg press. I have one at my gym and rotate it with 45 degree leg press. You can go heavy on them as long as the bench that you lay on is at a small decline. Around 6-8 degrees takes the pressure off your lower back and reduces pelvic rotation when at the lowest part of the movement.

Go past? Sorry I don't know what that means.

Hahahaha good call Bro

Its great movment and exercise, but my advise dont laod to much weight as it will put too much stress on your lower back and hips. High reps and lower weight on vertical leg press.

awesome movement. i have used one a few times and loved it. i have tried to make shift vertical leg press on a smith machine, and its just not the same.

This is the vertical leg press in my gym, but mine may even be smaller. Super old school gym, I haven't bothered to try using it yet! lol

These are brutal lol. Are you using a vertical leg press machine or a Smith machine?

This one looks just like it but different color

Nice, wish I had access to one of those. I'm forced to use a Smith machine :(

Vertical leg press machine.
Should I be doing wider stance or narrow for better activation. Lol since I tried both (2 sets of both) I don't remember which was more intense.

I prefer narrow stance. In my case for some reason the vertical leg press doesn't make my knees crunch as bad as a regular leg press (which I take a wider stance).

They're just awesome bro. A staple for me.

Theonslaught's picture

How do you do them?
Was reading:

"More quad activation narrow stance. And more inner thigh with wider stance"
I did both just to see how they felt. WOW!

tonytulo's picture

I do both wide stance to bring my ham strings and glutes into it. Thanks I do a tom platz version heels close together some times touching. Brings out your outer sweep real nice. Also if your going to do the outer sweep go light or the risk of injury is high. Focusing on just one stance is just ignorant. Focus on your weak point hit it, then when you catch up to your strong point start training them both soo you will have well balanced legs. That's what bodybuilding is about. Proportions and flow without a noticeable lagging bodypart. Don't focus soo much on weight , focus on intensity , time under tension and quality of the movement. Don't let some of these guys fool you with their foolish lifts of 700 lb squats that they're "repping". The quality of the movement is key. Slam too much weight on it and you gas yourself and use all stabilizers and the risk for injury increases ten fold.

Thanks know you. And speaking of squats...
My gym just got a tru squat machine.
It looks like it kills john meadows.
