+ 1 Am I ready? Need help with first cycle.
So I have been considering a cycle for a while now but it seems like the more I learn, the more confused I get in how to approach it. If possible, I would really appreciate any input from experienced guys out there.
Stats - 34 y/o 6'1" 225lbs 18%bf lifting religiously for just over two years. 265 bench, 405 squat, 505 deadlift. Yeah, I know my bench sucks (long arms).
I did a pretty successful recomp over the last couple of years going from a skinny fat bitch ass (probably 235lbs 25+ %bf to decent powerlifting gains at current stats. Just now coming off of a bulk (that's why bf is so high) and really want to dedicate some time, effort, and $$$ into being the best I can be and plan on running a cycle and see how I respond
So here's my plan - I know how to train and diet pretty well but haven't really put the effort in 100% - drinking, cheat meals, etc. So I figured if I am really going to do this I need to prove that I have the dedication to make a cycle worth it. Before I ever touch gear, I am planning on 12-16 wks of nothing but clean eating and consistent training to drop the bf and prepare for what is required to get the most out of a cycle. The way I see it, if I can't commit to this, a cycle is out of the question. I'd like to be 12-14% bf (strength goes into the toilet if I go any lower) and get my conditioning in order and take blood tests before I start.
When I am ready, I would like to do a test only 12+ wk cycle but have a few questions:
1) Is test prop best for first cycle (dosage 500-750mg/ wk)? - I don't mind the ED/ EOD pinning and was considering prop to minimize sides and get it out of my system quickly when it comes time to PCT. If not, is Test E or Test C best for first cycle?
2) Is anastrazole the best AI for cycle? What is the best dosage for the above test dosage?
3) I know it sounds superficial but I DO NOT want my testicles to shrink. I am not concerned with sterility as I am done having kids. I understand that HCG is effective at preventing this. Is 250-500 IU/ wk sound right during cycle? And I understand that HCG should not be incorporated into PCT?
4) Is Clomid/ Nolva pretty much the go to for PCT? It seems to be the most commonly suggested. How about dosage? Timeframe? (4-6wks)
5) blood tests - obviously I need a pretest to reference my levels but how often should I get tests while on and how long after PCT should I get checked?
6) since I am older, how likely is it that the shutdown might be long lasting/ permanent? And should I expect a longer recovery time since I'm older? I've already got connections at a TRT clinic should I be stuck cruising after. I don't want this to happen but I accept that worst case i understand that it might be the best option.
Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

+2 for coming in having built a decent base and done some research, makes a change these days! The guys have filled in the little bits you needed by the looking things, so good luck, sure you'll do well.
Thank you, I appreciate it! Seems like there is a great community here. Looking forward to learning and growing.
bigmurphYeah brother were glad to have you around
+1 for proper post
Thanks brother, been scanning through posts and comments for a couple of days - so much great info! Looking forward to learning more
bigmurphShoot me a fr request im here to help so hit me up anytime
Sounds like the best plan, along with some bloodwork and further research for first cycles.
Query Harris Benedict Equation and calculate your BMR with and without activity. From there, subtract your daily caloric deficit to lose weight, while keeping your TDEE in perspective.
What is your current lifting regimen?
Thanks for the reply. My BMR is usually around 3000-3500 on most calculators. It is probably a good time to check in on that again. Do you have any suggestions for dieting - anabolic fasting, carb cycling etc? I've done pretty good with carb cycling in the past but tended to go a little crazy with the refeed/ cheat meals.
For training, I usually follow Wendler 5-3-1 (4 day/ wk powerlifting) and will sometimes take a longer deload and do hypertrophy only for a couple weeks.
Thanks again.
Turkey and rice...jasmine, brown or wild...chicken....lean beef...fish, deer, pork. Eggs, milk, oats, brocolli, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, squash, lettuce, peppers, tomatoes, citrus. Choose foods with a low glycemic index. Line your less than complex carbs up and be consistent when you use them. Establish a pattern with your meals and determine if you.are meeting.your goals and/or making progress. Factor in your body type and consider how your metabolism functions. When you cycle carbs keep the grams low and increase your good fats (ie) coconut oil, olive oil, etc.
Thanks for the advice. Sorting the carbs out is always a challenge. Being a powerlifter I tend to eat pretty dirty when doing heavy strength training, so I've got some work to do there. Thanks again.
You're welcome. Just be easy on the starch, bread, pastas and saturated fats. Home made soups and stews, beans and mixed nuts would be a perfect addition, too. Pizza has always been a cheat meal for me, but i alternate that with chicken lasagna, spaghetti, eggplant parmasian and strombolies....
RustyhookerBall shrinkage and sterility.....get your diet on point and stay natural
Is that what's happening? I thought my Dick was getting bigger on cycles! Lol
RustyhookerShhhh! If everyone knows the secrets......lol
Sterility isn't a concern. I've got kids. And temporary shrinkage isn't appealing but if they recover I can deal with it (wife says she doesn't care). And theoretically, I'm already past my peak test levels so doesn't staying natural pretty much guarantee very limited gains, if any, as I age?
RustyhookerMaybe I'm an oddball but on cycle my balls barely shrink. I got fixed some 16 years ago so maybe that helps?
Guys on trt will use hcg at 500iu twice a week to keep them full for asthetics. On a base cycle its typically not a worry.
Recovery...thats a big question. Everyone responds different. You might be able to start and do proper pct for few decades. There's guys on here posting great success. Others, well after few cycles at older age they're down to trt. Pharma pct helps a ton imo. I still pct at 45. But its your personal genetics.
I'd first use dropdowns up top. Community....groups...first cycle. Read the forums and replies. So much info in there it will help redirect you.
Body fat. ...higher bf raises estro. Blood test week 5 helps dial that in scientifically. I'd look up catalyst, makwa etc and get foods really dialed in. I carry higher bf but its really a ton more fun adding mass at a lean state. Less worries of estro, stroke, cholesterol etc. You can SEE your gains.
Pinning and sterility is paramount. Cluck my avatar and see a few forums I wrote on pip etc. The answers from members are the gold.
Read a while and the rest becomes easier. Bloods are your roadmap. Foods is 95% of the cycle. Roids only speed recovery.
Lucky you I'll have tiNY balls on cycle lmfao
My, (one now), never have / has either.
RustyhookerAnother person by person case. Kinda pushes the curiosity on the raisin balls type of users. And is their recovery harder? Or is fullness merely a visual imaginary confidence builder?
bigmurph+1 rusty I haven't seen that from you in awhile I love seeing vets help newbies im being serious also this is no bs.
RustyhookerIts good to see a guy that appears to be genuine. Was a crazy winter in forums....lol.
Thanks!
bigmurphThat's the truth first one I have seen and now I understand why you guys say what you say about the new year
RustyhookerYears ago the folks came in with build and priors. The cycles suggested went right into advanced areas. Was a ton of fun!
bigmurphI saw alot of what you guys said would happen newbies with crazy cycles I wouldn't run and I've been running for 14yrs. It was ridiculous. I hope that stuff calms down a bit and it goes back to normal. I guess we can only hope.
Thanks for the info.
It's encouraging to hear that you've got a few years on me and are able to cycle and PCT without being resigned to TRT. I've already decided that TRT will ultimately be something I will do but I'd like to hold off until it is necessary.
I will keep digging into the forums and your posts and continue research as I get the diet and conditioning dialed in.
Thanks again for the reply, I really appreciate you taking the time to answer.
