Question for the pros on diet

ad

I'll be starting my bulking cycle soon and keep hearing people say I need to eat, eat and eat! My question is how are you guys getting 5000, 6000 and more calories a day? I eat clean and have a very hard time hitting 2700 cal a day.
Also if I eat more then 250 carbs I start gaining unwanted body weight (fat) unless I drop my fats down and hit cardio every day.
I'm 44 sitting at 215 at 15% bf and want to get the most out of this cycle.

its small leaps mate, bit by bit, digestion plays a key role, chose foods that sit well in you body, dont try eating too much in one sitting, gradually add small things to each meal, for example, maybe you eat a bowl of cereal, two pieces of toast a banana and a shake for breakfast, start having 3 bits of toast and 1 and a half bananas, boiled eggs are great, boil up 30 at a time, let them cool down and take all the shells off, keep them in a zip lock bag in the fridge and just snack on them, 30 lasts me 2-3 days depending, nuts!- peanuts, cashews, any type really, snack on these when ever you like, add cheese to your meals, so if you have vegies, grate some cheese on them, or put on top of your chicken or rice, it will take time, don't try and suddenly ramp calories and food up, do it slow, day by day, week by week, just start adding a little extra to each sitting or meal, if you find some foods like pasta (white) in particular keeps you full, or sits in your system for a while, avoid it, try brown or something, you want to digest food promptly to be able to continue eating more often through out day.

good luck

Try shooting for a goal of 3500 calories to start. Try to increase that a little more each day. Going from 2700 straight to 5000 may be a bit uncomfortable. Lol

Haha yeah I should have clarified, the END goal is 5000 cal. I plan to increase cal intake by 500 per week, I think I can achieve my goal that way.

Thanks for the replies, I guess I'll have to set my macro's to hit 5000 cal for my cycle and just do it and deal with the added fluff when I'm done, after all it's called a bulking cycle.

Make your own weight gainer shakes. Natural Peanut butter is easy to eat. Make sure to get 1/4 -1/5 of your daily calories for breakfast. Utilize getting in calories in your post workout shake and about 45 min later eat solid food, this is where you should be your most hungry post workout.

Don't be afraid to hit up a meat or sushi buffet post workout also.. Grab some digestive enzymes especially being over 40. Also make sure your workouts are intense enough to warrant eating all this food.

How do I personally eat that amount? Greed to be honest. If eating was an Olympic event I could be in with a shot at the podium.

In my case, there are certain foods that fill me up quickly, so I avoid those earlier in the day. Rice being an example, makes me full really quickly. Therefore re I don't eat it before about 2pm, after high I don't want to crave carbs too much. Then there are the goods that I can eat and eat without ever feeling full, meat in my case. Exploit those wherever you can.

As Tony said below, lots of meals and gradually increase the size of them. You've got to get the food in, it's the biggest barrier most face in a genuine bulk.

If you want to look at your diet in depth, drop me a line and we'll try and get things in better shape for you.

You have to eat bro. largest meal should be breakfast atleast 800 cals , high protein high fat high carbs , 6 to 8 meals a day , all sources of protein, you should have no problem putting down big food, the majority of you carbs should be taken in before 300 pm eat your breakfast early , pre workout carbs are fine, low rest periods in the gym and morning fasted cardio. That will keep your bodyfat fairly low, the key is to boost your metabolism. I get in over 5000 cals a day , in the beginning it was hard but every week I added more and more than one day I noticed I was eating a fuck ton of food. Whole milk helped too. I try not to lose my top 2 abs , other than that putting on a little body fat and water is what helps you push more weight for more volume. Like I said your training and cardio come into play also as far as bf goes..
