+ 1 Melanotan - Accelerate tanning, the what, how and why!

ad

What:

Melanotan was originally developed at the University of Arizona as a synthetic analog of the naturally occurring melanocortin peptide hormone alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH); in usage has been shown to have melanogenesis (tanning) capabilities.

When UV damage occurs in cells, the body responds by dispatching cells to repair this damage which then tan to protect the skin from further damage. This means that the user's body is not growing darker but is in fact tanning naturally with help from the peptide.

How:

Melanotan comes in the form of a freeze dried powder that requires the user to mix in bacteriostatic water and injected under the skin (often your belly fat much like a B vitamin shot) where it binds to melanocortin receptors ; A typical quantity is a 10mg vial. These receptors influence things like pigmentation, appetite, skin inflammation, and sexual function. One of the common side effects of the drug is increased libido and reduced appetite.

When mixed with sterile water, the melanotan 2 peptide becomes effective. 1-2ml sterile water will reconstitute the peptides. Diluting with more volume will improve dosing accuracy.

The sterile water is added to the vial when the user is prepared to mix it, after which the water is injected into the peptide containing vial. The powder will dissolve into the water and should remain clear.

Typically, insulin needles are to be used to inject or mix the peptide. These needles are 29 to 30 gauge by ½” with a 1 CC (100 units) capacity. It's possible to use larger syringes, however getting precise measurements can be difficult.

Contrary to popular belief injection is the only proper way of using this peptide. Many suppliers sell things like nasal sprays, pre-mixed peptide, oral pills and powders, few of which are what they claim to be. Similarly, pills of this type are also quite useless because enzymes within the stomach will render the peptide inert.

Why:

For practical purposes, this means that those that have fair skin, can achieve a rich, natural-looking tan even if they have an allergy to sunlight. This also means that these peptides make one of the best defences against skin cancer available, all without spending years trying to develop a tan that will protect the skin.

For anyone who is getting ready for competitions or frequents the tanning bed melanotan offers a far more natural looking tan at an accelerate rate. Melanotan is not only cheaper and safer than the tanning bed, it actually protects the user against future sun exposure.

Would love to hear other’s experiences using melanotan as well!

Would love to see more discussion around this! Hoping they come out with more research on the stuff cus from what I've experienced it's been positive.

It's definitely not cheaper where I'm from. A single bottle will get you way darker (looks way better also natural tan not orange) and last way longer than the month or two tanning package you'd get for same price. Ps it was being looked at as a means to protect against skin cancer and has never been shown to cause it (as opposed to tanning bed/Sun exposure which definitely can). From what I understand it is still being looked at to be legalized.

There is a reason skin cancer rates are lower in darker races, melantotan is supposed to up your protection against the sun by imitating natures way of doing so. I won't step in a tanning bed but I'd definitely go with melantotan again. Yes one is a bit of an unknown still but the alternative (tanning beds) are well known to cause issues.

Freckles and moles don't mean skin cancwe necessarily. I get freckles from Sun exposure every year.

I agree with the last poster. I've used it enough but really only two cycles and I have been having moles and freckles popping up ever since. I think the skin cancer dangers are definitely there. It's cheaper just to get a tanning membership anyway

I'm still not sure what to think about the freckles and moles because I get them any time I am in the sun- regardless of whether I am using MT II or not. I personally think that they come on faster with MT II just because the tan comes on faster. In other words, I would have just as many if I got that dark by tanning without the aid of the peptide

Agree bro, the freckle thing is definitely a case by case experience. Some people get more and some people don't. These kinds of things happen with the sun as well, I definitely have a lot more than when I was younger but none that rally bother me.

Exactly. The tan you get from it would be hard to even achieve with tanning. If you got equivalently tanned from Sun you would prob develop just as many.

But again it is and was being considered as a way to protect against skin cancer. Basically if you could make yourself African/Egyptian then you'd have better protection, this is what it simulates. Possibly some side effects but the well known side effect of tanning beds and even natural sun is skin cancer, straight up.

Most people combine the two and if you are gonna tan, tanning with m2 will mean you can tan better, faster, with less harmful exposure to Uv

I agree 100% which is why I love me some MT II

Just a warning; I love melanotan myself but I simply cannot use it. It seems to really darken/bring on new freckles on my body. I have run a few cycles of it and each time it darkens freckles on the side of my face. It leaves me with a bunch of tiny specks on the side of my face that are too noticeable for my liking.

Other than that, it gives me a great tan, but won't be using it again due to the darkening of freckles.

parkcityutah's picture

Yeah it will do that. For myself I didn't find this was worse than when I get tanned from the sun. I always get some extra freckles during summer and melantotan was no diff.

As with everything else, everyone is different when it comes to any substance we ingest/inject etc.

I stand corrected. Investigated further.
