+ 2 Whats Your Favorite Post Workout Meal

ad

I love to eat especially after a hard work out. Have any of you heard the benefits of getting some sugar into the body as soon as you lift. As you work out hard I guess this crashes your sugar levels so you would want to eat something containing sugar after your workout. I prefer a couple of scoops of sherbert with about 8 ounces of milk and 2 scoops of Metrx protein in a blender and IM A HAPPY CAMPER. I even read that getting sugar in the body after the workout can help you utilize your insulin as a growth factors so a coke anyone. Stay hungry ladies and gentlemen.

Sponge, you are on point. I watched a documentary about pre-made chocolate milk being the perfect post workout snack. Granted, you can't live on that crap, but it is still good to know for those of us with a sweet tooth.

Sponge's picture

I heard that the NFL players have chocolate milkshake machines in the gym for there post workout drink. Something to do with it having the perfect ratio of sugars to protein.

Heres my little recipe though;

Brown pasta
Large chicken breast
Frozen green beans/mixed veg/sprouts (your mum was right- these things are packed with good stuff)

Cook all of that up and pour a load of olive oil to line the bottom of a bowl. Sprinkle whatever spices you want on the oil and mix it up. Chop up the cooked chicken and splash it around in the spicey oil. Mix this with the pasta, and then chuck in the veg. The whole thing takes ten minutes and I can usually make 2/3 meals out of it. If I'm having it cold the next day I just add mayo.

One of the best things about this dish is that it has loads of olive oil in it, but you are not cooking it up, so it stays nice and healthy. Heating up oil changes the composition and its not good for you.

That sounds really tasty, I use EV olive oil in all my dishes, yum!

Sponge's picture

EV is definitely good stuff mate, its all I use. Until recently I never realised that EV olive oil was actually better for you too.

Good thing about the dish is that it changes every time. I've been eating it for 15 years and I'm still not bored. You can switch from pasta to potatoes, change up the spices, add herbs etc, and change up the protien source- tuna works very well with it.

Chicken breast + warm water, blend and drink. It's my pre-workout protein. I never really found a protein powder I liked. Most of them make me feel a little sick or give me a funny tingling in the head. I might just be a pussy though.

I cook the chicken on the skillet with a little cajun seasoning, but other than that it's just chicken and water. It only takes a few seconds to drink so I didn't see much point. You could get fancy though. Someone came up with a bloody mary shake, something like chicken, tomato paste, worcestershire, etc. Might try that one day.

Okay thanks might give it a try

I got one for ya.. I've had it a few times and it's not bad, usually I'm just too lazy to make it.

-Chicken breast
-pesto
-mozzarella
-water or milk
-salt n pepper to taste

Blend that all up and drink it. You can also substitute roasted red peppers for the pesto and have a completely different shake.

I have a post workout shake of my own design. Goes something like this..

1 cup greek yogurt
1 cup egg whites
1 banana
1 raw egg
1 shot of honey (actually I dunno I just eyeball it)
1 tsp splenda (just to make it sickly sweet)
2% milk

Lots of sugar, lots of protein. It digests quick and you're hungry for your next meal in less than an hour.

My favorite meal after the gym or a game is lousianna chicken pasta. It covers all your needs post workout. If anyone wants to try it ill post the recipe

Your muscles need sugar for recovery. I put two cups of milk, two cups of vanilla soy protein, half of a banana, and one big scoop of peanut butter in a blender and drink that. That covers the sugar part...then it's usually baked chicken or fish , vegetables, loaded bake potatoes, Mac and cheese or whatever. Ill eat some cereal before I go to bed usually raisen bran. It helps me digest really well lol

Protein shake directly after workout. Then 1 or 2 pounds of ground sirloin cooked on my foreman grill, with a bag of steamed veggies on the side hits the spot!

Whey Isolate 30 grams then at home Top Ramen Noddles with one can on Tuna(without the lil sachet of flavor, that shit is just sodium)

MusicMan's picture

I like youre style!!!

hamburglar8's picture

You should look into using Vitargo intra-workout. It's a fast acting carb that replenishes your glycogen stores as they are being depleted during training so the extra carbs are not stored as fat. It gives you that insulin spike/growth factor that you speak of whilst burning fat.

RickRock1086's picture

You must be kidding are you? Wheats are just fiber!

Raisin bran I like a lot.
