+ 1 Top 7 Basic supplements in my opinion!
Hello fellow erodians, I have been doing some research on sups and decided to post on my top 7.
Just to cover the basis on your diet, your going to need some of these to help you build and retain muscle. If you were to be on a tight budget as I am, this is the bare necessity of sups.
1)Protien- I would go with something Isolate, whey or low in cals and carbs
2) Fish oil pills- Which are Relatively cheap
3) Multi Vitamin- I prefer Gnc or Animal pack
4) Casein- Slow digesting protein powder
5) Bcaa's- Branch chain amino acids
6) Waxy maize- Carb powder
7) Creatine- Preferably a monohydrate (Optional)
If you would like to add a pre workout supplement in this rotation that's fine, however I am a firm believer in using my own energy in the gym and just sticking to the basics. Drink lots of water while taking these!
This is why you are taking these supplements........
Protein Powder- protein shakes can also help repair damage to muscles that can occur with serious bodybuilding. That's because they help the body recover from intense exercise. Protein shakes do this mainly by restoring muscle glycogen, a fuel source for exercise, which gets used up during workouts!
Fish oils- They are from, you guessed it fish, beneficial oils known as omega-3 fatty acids! They help your heart, blood and to lower triglyceride levels (fats related to cholesterol).
Multi Vitamin- Face it your not going to eat enough food to get all the essentials in these puppy's. This will help with your over all wellness and Immune system.
Casein- Is a slowly released protein, best taken at night to fuel your body while you sleep and grow.
Bcaa's- Are your amino acids that help recover your muscles after your workout and help activate your vitamins, mineral and nutrients. They prevent fatigue and improve exercise.
Waxy maize- When working out your using Carbs to fuel your workouts. Once you finish your workout your carbs are depleted, this is a fast way to replenish your carb levels.
Creatine- This will helps you to retain water, to give an overall muscular look. Its helps to give you a better pump and also helps with recovery.
This is how they are taken throughout the day, in the morning first thing I take my Multi and fish oil.( together the help maintain cholesterol, give you some fatty acids, they are good for your heart and your body. Immediately after I have a protein shake to kick start my body with nutrients, later on I have a breakfast of egg whites and oatmeal. Lunch usually consist of baked chicken, veggies and some form of starch like quinoa or brown rice. I might add another protein shake a couple hours after lunch or some Greek yogurt with a scoop of protein in it. Post workout I will combine my amino acids, waxy maize, creatine and casein in one shake! Finally just before bed I eat cottage cheese and a light chicken salad, cutting off food carbs at 3 on non workout days and 5 on workout days!
- This is just the way I cycle my supplements and by no means am I perfect, this is something that works for me* For the guy/gals like me that confused when order sups, hope this helps*

AnonNice list but ive inform people b4 about multiVitamins are garbage
Look at the nutritiom label of ur vitamins
Lets look at the following vitamins for this example: zinc oxide, cyancobalabin(B12), Pyridoxine HCL(B6), i bet those are the forms read in ur nutrition label
Now those vitamins are very poorly absorbed. The best absorbed are Zinc Picolinate, MethlyCobalabin and IM is better and P-5-P(B6) these vitamins are way better absorbed and ull never find em in a mutlivitamin. Buying em each cost around 5-8$ each
And if they were to make a mutlivitamin with only best absorbed vitamins they would cost estimated maybe $300.
I buy all the vitamins i think i cant get enuff a day sepratly and at there best absorbed form. You can find the answer in pubmed which are the best absorbed hope that helps bro.
I agree with you sir. You can attain enough vitamins and nutrients through your diet. But if you want to so a multi vitamin and actually get something out of it. I would recommend a liquid formula or something that can be absorbed sublinqually.
I've been out of the OTC supp game for a minute. I realize batman has been banned, but take what he says with a grain of salt brother. He's the type of guy that likes his arguments more than the actual facts. Not saying he's wrong, but def not saying he's entirely correct.
Vitamins... Such a complex subject for so small of an essential set of nutrients. Decades ago is when doctors began discovering a link between many physical and mental ailments and vitamin deficiencies. As a result, supplementation manifested itself. These doctors then began to see patterns, even with apparently healthy ppl in terms of dietary intakes. Bottom line is that ppl in general do not provide adequate micronutrients throughout their days for daily functions.
Thing about these vitamins is that the majority are water soluable and are unable to be stored in tissues for later use. What this means is that what is ingested t once remains in circulation until either used or excreted. Just like with aas they have a half life, which is very short. The kidneys are steadily filtering them out so, over time, what is not used becomes excreted.
Putting that into context is this: your supplement facts panel lists B12 as being 100% of the daily value. Daily values are set by te FDA as the amount needed for an average person on a 2000 cal diet. Some ppl may look at this as meeting their daily requirement. Technically yes, but other factors reduce what is available as well as used up.
Bioavailability is the amount of a substance taken that the body is actually able to gain access to. With injestible forms, you have gastric juices and enzymes that will degrade the vitamin to a degree before absorbed. Then once absorbed the nutrient is transferred to the liver via the hepatic portal vien where it is exposed to more enzymes prior o entering the blood stream. This is called first pass metabolism, and is the main reason orally administered drugs are less effective than injected forms.
Then he vitamin circulates. Some will bind with cells or enzymes to perform the required functions, while others become excreted thru the urine.
So, if taking 100% RDA at once, that number gets reduced before entering the bloodstream. Once it does, it simply cannot remain in circulation for the remainder of the day. Meaning more must be taken to provide for daily functions. Even injectable B12 becomes excreted after a matter of hours.
Bottom line is that we do intake some of the necessary amounts with each meal, unless we're on some form of a restrictive diet. Th sups essentially allow for us to fill in the gaps so to speak with whatever may be lacking. Any excess is excreted.
Add some L-carnitine and L-arginine; coq10 with oat straw and stinging nettle and you have what I take every day along with your list. And I have powdered BCAA that I add to my creatine drink pre-workout.
Priced well you can get both at around 23.99, buy one get one free. I have to do more research on those two supplements and see if they are worth the purchase.
the carnitine and arginine AND coq10 I get combined in liquid form from amazon dosed @1000mg's. Good stuff.
valhallas besttalked to one of the most yoked dudes ive ever seen that came through to my gym and he said all supps are bullcrap, all you need is food, some protein powder, and a multi-vitamin.. and of course complimented by a nice steroid regiment... hahah
