+ 1 how to tell infection vs pip?
ad
This seems like a thread that would help a lot of people and myself also,I pinned my glute on saturday first ever pin. Yesterday it was a sore to the touch but not walking and I could still lean on it or sit down. Today it's the same thing. Howver there is a little raised lump and the immediate I jection site is slightly warm and red tinged, now infections seem to cause fevers baseball sized lumps. Edema etc. Heck I hear of physicsy disabling pips
Mines just a little sore and raised. But how do you tell Tue difference?
I pinned 1.3ml of test e with a 23g needle. I wiped everything with alcohol swapped needles etc

Ibuprofen helps a lot. It's a anti-inflammatory
So is vitamin C, i'd stick with the natural biochemical substance.
The spot itself is a little warm, but honestly I don't think its infected, Its a small slightly pink area around he injection site, and just a little sore, honestly Its nothing I would ever worrry about since i have never injected before but I was just curious because peopel talk about needing ER trips etc. Its less sore today so i would imagine if infected my whole ass would be red and swollen.
Just to clarify, the gear is not to fault, I had stuck my quad, and then did glutes instead, I wiped down both places but Ithere a s tiny chance for infection because of it I read, I also injected it all in like 20 seconds which I learned later is way too fast.

here buddy, hope this helps with whatever you got
Keep an eye on it, but it sounds like you're fine. First injection, virgin muscle there will be some pip involved.
Having very recently had a pretty serious infection I'll tell you what my symptoms were.
I did a shot. The next everything seemed normal, area was a little stiff like normal. The following day the area was very stiff and looked a little swollen, I didnt think much of it. The following day it was stiff, sore, swollen and red around the injection site. Now I was starting to worry. I did not yet feel sick but the followong day went to the docs and got some anti biotics. The following couple days the redness and swelling progressed a little more but I did not feel sick. Early saturday morning, I woke up burning up, nauseous and my arm was red and swollen from shoulder to elbow. Got my ass to the ER and they took it from there.
The symptoms can creep up and hit you all at once. If you honestly think you have an infection, seek medical attention before its too late as there can be serious consequences. Here a pic of how my infection was at I believe the 72 hour mark.

As for pip. Pip for myself is usually just some stiffness and an annoying dull pain, there should be no fever, redness or swelling involved.
Forgot to mention, the infected area will be hot to touch.
the best tell sign of an infection is fever.. if the pin site red, warm to touch, swollen, or you got a fever and the fever keeps coming back goto the doc asap, infection happens, even to pros, don't wait over 2 days of getting fevers, the infection can spread to viral organs then you are DEAD. if you have unexpired antibiotics start taking them just in case that what you would get in the hospital if you get an infection anyways..
Mike1982First let me start off by asking what size pin did you use? To narrow this down we need to get specific on exactly what and how you pinned. There is a difference between pip, infection, and test flu. Just because its red and swolen and whatever else doesn't mean its infected. If there is a lump at the injection site it could mean you missed your muscle or some went into the muscle and some didn't. Ive pinned my quads may times and find that without the right size needle, being too short, that the surface of the muscle was injected and caused pain to the touch. Then with correct needles the pip was deeper within the muscle and not on the surface. Let's start here and get more specific.
1inch needle I suspect it was short. I pinned into the glute.
Redness is gone. And either the Advil knocked the pain down and or it's not as sore this morning.
Still warm though
I would be checking your temperature pretty regularly. If you start getting a fever I'd go to the hospital asap
Just curious, why 1.3ml in your first ever pin?
Over drew because I was so nervous
Virgin muscles are hard to tell, although what Hawkdc said, everything is true. At the same time, it's a virgin muscle. Pain is normal as well as swelling. Think of getting shot in the leg by a bullet, or stabbed. Wouldn't it swell up? A foreign object is a foreign object, and I promise it will stop happening after a few shots. You may also have a knot or have pulled a muscle if you don't do legs, it's quite common
A muscle which does not get worked out and you pin into will be even more prone to PIP...
I have never pinned or taken any aas to date so I cannot comment on pip. However signs of infection include, but are not limited to: redness, fever, warm to the touch, pain even on light tough, swelling/edema. If you have any redness around the site my suggestion is to outline it ASAP with a marker. Then recheck it 12 and 24 hours from now. If the redness has moved outside your marker then chances are good for infection. Does this mean its infected for sure, absolutely not, just an indication.
Very good info, but I have to add to that.
