Medically speaking, the treatment of various ailments calls for dosages of 1000mcg as often as once per week to as infrequent as once per month. This is because the b12 deficiencies causing the ailments are hindering some aspect of cellular function, usually cell division. This dosage amount and frequency provides enough of the vitamin to restore function for a given time.

Outside of the medical aspects, B12 has been being used for performance enhancements due to its roles in the body as co-enzymes for energy production. For this reason, you will find B12 in most every OTC supplement for energy or recovery.

When being used for performance enhancement, people must realize an important fact about the vitamin: all B vitamins are water soluable. As a result, the body cannot store it. It will circulate through the bloodstream until it is either used up or completely excreted. Because these vitamins are water soluable, they are able to enter the bloodstream directly, rather than thru the lymphatic system. This makes for a faster route of entry, but also provides for a much more rapid rate of excretion compared to the fat soluable counterparts like vitamins A, D, E, and K. Because of this, within 8 hrs post injection of the vitamin, the majority of the amount will have already been excreted.

This requires more frequent dosing for performance enhancement purposes compared to what's prescribed for medical purposes. So, everyday dosing is appropriate.

Great info as usual Doss. Does the fact that it's water soluble mean that it must be injected, or can it be equally effective in oral form?

You can find/take them in injectable forms. The injectable just packs a bigger punch due to bypassing first ass metabolism.
