lats question

ad

i've been trying to build my lats and have been working flexing them more to attempt to build more mind muscle connection.

i've come across a problem....

i can flex one side independently with no problem, but when i try and flex both at the same time it's like the muscles don't wanna flex..

any advice?

I like to imagine a string connecting the side of my lat and my elbow. When I draw my elbows up I imagine them pulling a big set of curtains closed. This always helps me work on my mind muscle connection. It is also important to video your movements while posing to review later. Something as trivial as the angle of your arm flexing could affect your lat spread. Just watch yourself closely. I hope this helps

Are you attempting to squeeze your SHOULDER blades together?

Oh ok, you should have made it clearer in your post. You probably have an imbalance in your lats. It's not a hue deal cause nobody has perfect Symittry. Just give your other lat a bit more attention.

Well since you're look for width, it would make since to do some type of underhand pulldown. Let me ask you. A question, have you had a shoulder Injury on that side? I have the same problem with my left lat, it's not as wide as my right. I had a shoulder injury years ago and the shoulder blade was tucked under (so to say). Continue to stretch and did what my chiropractor said.
do you get adjusted regularly as well as deep tissue massage? I get both every week, and I recommend it!

IMHO narrow/close underhand grip and build wider lats. Think about the ROM (range of motion)??? Go ahead and pretend you're doing your wide grip pulldowns, then switch to close underhand grip....if you do this you will see a grater ROM for the lats. And let's not forget what the motion of the lats are, to bring the arm down and back. Think about it. As for your shoulder that very well may be why you re having this issue, we have a similar issue.

Never though of it like that. I always change of the grip on most exercises but I'm gonna start mixing in overhand narrow for lats.

Why overhand narrow?
