Has anyone ever tried deer or buffalo meat? What do they taste like?
they taste amazing and my favorite meats by far.. Deer and elk is great high protein low fat, buffalo is extremely lean as well and high in protein but it goes bad quickly within 3 days.
buffalo meat is AMAZING
Low fat/high protein.
I wrote a paper on it while at the culinary institute of america.
It has a rich beef flavor/slightly gamey range flavor. Its great for burgers, steaks, stews.
It is even better with some fat added, it can get dry from over cooking

deer is tender,buffalo is truly worth ever darn penny,good choices great protein too
although expensive, very tasty
Like others have said buffalo is awesome, but its really pricy in some cases even double compared to beef.
What about deer sausage and jerky? Good or bad?
Bad for me, too much sodium and deer sausage has pork fat mixed in w/ the deer meat. Depends if you are concerned about those things. Some people have the attitude of get ur calories in no matter what... Anything is ok in moderation tho? Unless you are cutting...
I have a bunch of deer sausage. I figured eating a few slices for a snack couldn't hurt much. I'm not cutting or bulking really. More of in maintenance mode. Thanks for the insight

It's all in how any of it is prepared in my opinion. I had some deer chops, and smoked them in charcoal smoker for about 2hrs, they were awesome. Same chops cooked on gas grill in about 15min and they were gamey as hell. It's all in how you cook it bro
Both taste great. Buffalo is expensive but its available here. Ostrich is great too! Uber high protein

I love both. I haven't found deer meat in my area but I used to live where it was readily available. Buffalo for some reason is available here. Leaner and more delicious than beef. More expensive though. Some smaller butcher shops and health food stores carry the more obscure meats. So if you're just looking in larger supermarkets then try the little shops and health food shops. I found a butcher shop with buffalo, ostrich, rabbit.. random shit I didn't know people ate.
telloladeis there a describable aroma to the buffalo? ive heard its quite strong. it sucks cuz where i live they dont have it in any store or restaurant even .those buffalo burgers ive heard of that are so popular. i wouldn't even bither ordering it since that stuff would spoil but hopefully 1 day somewhere
It's all about diet. I only hunt Deer and Elk where they feed on alpha. We have a lot of sage which in my opinion makes the meat unpalatable. I do like the taste of Buffalo (actually Bison). I think it tastes better then beef and much leaner but not as lean as horse.
56tooI used to hunt and I can tell u the only way I like deer is in chili because it masks the taste. The back strap on the grill is pretty good but I shot a buffalo once and I gotta tell u it is just like a steer, excellent.This one was a wild buffalo so it just fed on grass. Any more though I dont like killing animals
