Yesterday I got the shits...today plantar fasciitis

ad

GP just diagnosed me with this.

"is a painful inflammatory process of the plantar fascia, the connective tissue on the sole (bottom surface) of the foot. It is often caused by overuse of the plantar fascia or arch tendon of the foot. It is a very common condition and can be difficult to treat if not looked after properly"

Basically the bottom of my heal is aching and feeling like someone is stabbing me in there. Its mainly the case when I run or play football( soccer) and has started to appear in recent weeks. Its not so bad when I go on the bike or lift weights, but changing directions in an agile fashion for football and the pounding my heel has got from

Has anyone had this and can recommend any footwear or things I can do to help speed up recovery? There is no known treatment to speed the process. Is there any substances that will help with healing that? peptides?

I used to get that often when I was younger, then when I started running when I was 18 my knees started killing me. Found out I was flat footed. Bought orthotics that cost about 300 with a lifetime guarantee. Shortly after, my knees where fine and haven't had the fasciitis since. That was 12 years ago, I still have the same ones and they go into any footwear I'm using, running, lifting, dress shoes, boots.

My mother just got the same problem with pain on the bottom of her foot. I diag'd it myself and bought her sandals designed for it. I just googled plantar's fasciitis and found them. She's in her 60's and never had foot problems, after wearing the special sandals it went away. Her problem started after weight gain.

Try the orthotics. Go to the dr scholls thing you stand on and buy the ones it tells you to. If the problem goes away after some time wearing them, go get the permanent ones, believe me they're well worth the money.

Also look into orthotics. Not the stuff off the shelf from chemists but from a real specialist - real orthotics costs $400 per moulded set. Its done wonders for my feet pain (playing soccer and basketball) and its helped my knee pain too. The way you pronate and the way you cushion high impact movements in your gait or in how you run/jump make all the difference. Try this before any drugs. Anti-inflammatory stuff only masks the symptoms - its does not heal or fix any mechanical issues that are usually associated to plantar-f.

I noticed you're overweight too - dude - its the single greatest cause of this injury. Trim down and you'll be a world better. Easier said than done, but now you have a tangible goal - to be pain free. Good luck.

Thank you ive lost 70lbs actually, im going from fatty to fit. What is shocking me is that I didn't have this months ago when I first started my cut? Ive actually put a load of LBM on as well as demolishing the fat so its weird why its happening now. I will absolutely drop to sub 15% bodyfat by the end of this year, im hoping itll clear up by then. I literally breath exercise now so maybe thats why its appeared as im so active. I feel working in an office all day is restricting me from my goal of being in the gym, playing squash, running or playing football...its all I wanna do.

thanks guys, just the sort of responses I was hoping for, thought people were going to be like "wtf is this".

Its definitely the football which has brought it on, im overweight and my bodyfat is too high and im suddenly doing 2/3 sessions of football a week which is stressful running HIIT on top of cycling and my normal compound lifts. This after years of doing nothing has probably put a lot of pressure on there.

Going to look at footwear now...

Sup bro, i hate to hear about this as i had the same thing! I started getting symptoms from wearing the wrong type of footwear while being overweight and doing a lot of fast paced walking.

Here is what worked for me after speaking with my doctor.

1) Change footwear --> some options http://sportsmedicine.about.com/od/shop/tp/aatp_MCshoes.htm <--- i went with Saucony and never looked back.

2) Before getting out of bed i stretched my foot with a towel for several minutes.

3) While eating breakfast i used a heat pack for 15 on 15 off. x2

4) After work or exercise use a cold pack 15 off and on x3 and lightly stretch and hold.

5) Ibuprofen or any other nsiad (I used naproxen)
After about 2 weeks i noticed a HUGE difference and after a month i had no issues at all.

Every one is different but this worked extremely well for me without injections and i hope you find some relief as well as i know how painful this can get! Good luck bro!

Taping it up will help limit the pain...used to have it constantly...I played rugby and would be in boots for hours at a time everyday. For me switching from studs to a turf bottom helped but would not completely go away till offseason.. There are some newer studies out about using nitric oxide patches for tendon inflammation so may be an option for you
