GETTING YOUR DAILY VALUE ON A BUDGET

ad

I am desperately needing my fellow eroiders help. I have had a major decrease (temporarly) in cash flow which has put a damper on my food supply. If you guys could help me with some less expensive ways to get the protein I need, a cheap source of carbs and some healthy calories so I aint completely dissappointed this cycle I would greatly appreciate it

another good source of carbs man,is from walmart.i buy hungry jack pancake mix for my breakfast meal, its like 1.79 a box.i use 3 servings per meal, and the box has 21servings.so my breakfast all week is under 2.oo,660 cals 150g of carbs 12g protein, with a scoop of whey and a cup of milk to wash it down.now its 880 cals. over 50g p.you cant beat a whole week of breakfasts for around 5-6 bucks.

Walmart bros and gals.
I find sales looking at local online ads, write them down, and Walmart price matches.
Example...
Aldi has a gallon of milk for 2.99 everyweek to get you in the door. Walmarts store brand is 3.99. They price match Aldis price. I buy 5 gallons a week and save 5.00. Plus, I only have to go to one store.
This plus coupons have saved me and my family about 75.00 a week off our bill.

Hey mate I personally would consider changing it to a cruise instead of sizing up. save the gear till you have the cash behind you to do it properly mate. Just my opinion. Thats what I would do anyway

popeboy1's picture

I think gs loaded me up with ideas, I can work with what he has suggested, I just cant afford to eat steak everyday ya know. I am gonna get this on track, I cant afford to cruise right now either because ive lost to much already, just needed help with a cheaper diet

Yeah cool. Wasn't sure if that eating plan was still in the budget mate was all. Good luck with it mate.

thanks guys for your input, I am running straight bulking cycle, I have 2 big bags of cytosport muscle milk on hand (which is delicious by the way) that I drink on a regular basis, the problem I have is I am working crazy hours 5pm - 3am to 7am and I dont always have access to a blender and im not so sure how good whey protein is if you dont drink it immediatly. Also I do have 3 adults, and 3 kids living in my house so I dont have alot of cash to throw around right now for what I would normaly use for my protein intake. So I have been eating an ass load of hamburger meat and trying to keep pasta and potato's on deck. I have been reading that sunflower seeds are a good source of protein and some cheeses are really high in protein. None the less I am going to have to get on my grind so I can get all the nutrients I need to get this process back in check. Im not to fond of running pork on a bulking cycle so I am trying to figure out some cheap options to get me back on track. Alot of you guys have known me for a long time so feel free to chime in.

Lots of good suggestions. Only other things that come to mind are imitation crab meat and frozen tilapia which are some of the cheapest seafood products you can get.

Carlos Danger's picture

Duhhhh how could I forget tilapia! I've got two bags sitting in my freezer:-) good call

take advantage of sales!! coupons as well.. i do contract work for 3 different supermarket and i know if u take full advantage of these 2 things u can save 60, 70 even 80cents on the dollar.. just like gear do your homework and within no time youll become a freak shopper lol.. you should do this even when your money situation is sorted out.. it really pays big in the long haul

P's picture

Great advice
+1
It makes sense if there's two identical products, and one is cheaper than the other to buy the cheapest

bawler's picture

bawler's picture

Sams also has a 5 pound protein bags for around 30 bucks

Rusty Kuntz's picture

I know I'm late to the party but the Sams by me has boneless chicken breasts on sale a lot of the time and its usually under $2 a lb. I buy 85% of my meat from Sams

manlytt's picture

Sams 9 lbs rolled oats and box of eggs from walmart. Brown minute rice is relatively cheap. Don't buy your sandwich meats already sliced, that will save alota on meats. Frozen 3 lb bags of chicken breasts. Clipping coupons can always aid in food bills, if you rely on your kitchen for any processing of food you'll be ahead of the game. I buy meats in bulk from discount racks. Get used to eating for staple more than for appetite.

sam's has good protein bars on the cheap 30 grams of protein and under a dollar each. Hope things look up for my buddy Pope I know how hard you and your lady work for your children.

Shop at a cheaper supermarket bro.
The main difference apart from the food being cheaper is that they may use 'b' or 'c' grade foods, which are still perfectly edible, and they may also have a shorter shelf life.

I go inthe early morning and the butcher is just marking down the two day old beef. Hell its always at least half price and looks ten times bettervthan what walmart sells as fresh ,non marked down. Giant stores here in Pa have great mark downs but gotta go early or they are gone. I also go to the seafood store and just ask if they have anything thats fresh but not brand new today and can i get a discount. Doesnt hurt to ask . If the owner sees your face enough , he'll begin to look out for you.

and i know they have some fatty oil but to keep the pipes flowin from all the protein i like buying sunflower seed by the pound.

Some church's are given stuff thats a few days from expiration and youbcan ask around and get things like english muffins and breads fir free.
best wishes brother

Brown rice, oats.... Carbs.

Pork, tuna ........ Protein

There's loads of cheap shit out there go for own brand if you like there just examples.

manlytt's picture

Pork? Prolly not a good choice in meats. Tuna is okay, but if you look at price per ounce its better for convenience. Convenience usually costs you $$. Whole foods are always a better choice
