+ 1 MATURITY AND SELF DISCIPLINE
Well guys its been a tough 4 days WITHOUT hitting the steel. I took some time off due to a strained rotator cuff. Although it was great for my recovery time it was 4 days of sleeping in and getting lazy (happens quick for me) Woke up at 5:30 this morning to the pitter patter of the rain which was almost enough to convince myself "one more day" ...FUCK THAT! I rolled my ass out of bed, threw on the gym clothes - basic black for the slimming effect (NO HOMO)- choked down a shake and rode my bicycle 1.2 miles to the gym IN THE RAIN. Was feeling all Gung-Ho but then decided that since I have decided to change up my routine (again) to a 1:1 instead of the 5:2 I've been doing I WOULD give the cuff a little more time and went Back and Legs today as opposed to my usual Monday Chest and Shoulders (and I reallllly wanted to work Chest today)
Some of the graces of getting older is the maturity and ability to put ego to the side for the greater good (sorry youngsters, you may think you're that unique 20 something who isn't run by ego... but uhmmmm... NO!)
To make it to my mid forties (in this game) without any major injuries was a feat in and of itself... Nevermind the ability to take honest self assessment as to where I'm at today and NOT strive for the goals of the younger me. Getting "as BIG as FUCK" is no longer on my goals list. I have had to face the facts that my body NOW says we will only accept X amount of weight now, which is fine by be because I like maintaining quarterback weight : )
Youth may be wasted on the young - But WE have something the youngsters will just have to wait for... Maturity and Self Discipline!

Sounds like you are rationalizing the symptoms of age related low test.. JK. I am getting up there in age and definitely feel more focused and motivated than ever before. Not because I feel time is running out, but just because I know there is no hurry. Nothing wrong with a little extra-curricular testosterone to keep the ball rolling... Good post.
tread-mYou know the greatest thing about this age for me is just being stuck in the zone. Its like I can't not focus you know? Patience is where you are and that only comes from experience. Would it be great to have our patience and discipline along with the knowledge and be 25 again! Although I'm not sure I would do it having fallen in love with the blast and cruise 26 months ago. By the way these young bucks say "I can roll in bed 3 hours"! Well, go ask your girl if she wants 3 hours of wrong or an hour of gettin it done with water works junior! Heres my number, she's gonna want it when you ask! : /
AnonWell thats breaking several major rules at planet fitness. LOL
must have a bike chain to lock up bike
No single color outfits
must be completely dry; no sweating while working out
I am young at 25 but I never struggled with the quality over quantity thing, good post bro I would def like to be at this in my 40s, I don't see why i wouldn't
You can be just play it smart. hint....High reps medium weight pyramid down to failure.
Frank Zane told me not to fail
I go til I can't go but I always get it up to avoid a brutal/unnecessary overuse of the muscle. I go about 8 reps at 80% of my max
BOOM!
more focused now than ever, cannot treat my body like an amusement park anymore everything is planned like a military operation.
I like to tell guys to check their ego at the door. You look pretty silly trying to push up a weight you can't control. Sure I take plenty of days off as well. But I get my 5 days a week in and some days I'll go twice in 1 day for extra cardio.
good post brother, totally correct with the BIG AS FUCK syndrome most younger guys have,i have changed my routines multiple times from years ago when competing.i love to train it is my passion so these days i leave the old ego in the car and train my muscles instead, listening to the body is key,one fucked up movement can leave us on the bench for months,i cracked a rib 6wks ago being a dick trying to heave to much weight i felt like a real dick cos i should know better and preach safety to younger guys at the gym all the time, anyways i trained around it and all is good again.
moral of the story is that when we think we know it all SHIT HAPPENS,this game is all about re/evaluating the training principles to suit our poor old crumbling bodys LOL,good luck getting back into regular workouts bro keep them ears well tuned for any warnings,SET BACKS FUCKING SUCK.
sgtstedankoNice, brother! Well said... Yup. It's too easy for me to get lazy as well. One of the reasons I workout 1st thing In the morning. I always tell myself that 1-2 days usually ends up setting me back a whole week. I personaly think that knowing your body is one if the most important things. I see all kinds of newer guys, over training to the point of hurting their bodies. Imo, absolutely nothing is more important than discipline. With that & determination, you can overcome anything. good post
AnonAmen my Brother Wood.
As we discussed in PM I also clicked on the 1:1 and threw me off and down with the weight but you know what . . . I got a fresh pump and was better today then last few weeks and I am OFF and cruising.
You are good Bro to talk "mature" goals and plans of attack.
Trying the 1:1 starting this week my man. Haven't done in over a year looking forward to seeing how my body reacts to it.
Good post been thinking of taking a week off. If you think at this age your body is telling you something then it is. I will do a week of Cardio and abs.

Very poetic, love it bro. Now time to drag my ass to the gym in this rain.
I'm almost thirty and I'm definitely starting to see my ego fade. It's actually a good thing.
PS.. I'm working in this rain right now. Sucks. I feel your pain.
Although I did not ride my bike to the gym this morning.
