Standing calf raises, Doggcrapp style
You've got to remember, we walk everyday, using leg and calf muscles. Those muscles have adapted to the constant stress of being used all the time. Thats why getting legs and calves to grow is tough for almost everyone. Just getting them pumped will not make them grow. You really have to force the issue. Tip 1- Do calves first and NOT on leg day. Tip 2- Warm up properly then pre-exhaust with 4 sets of 25 followed by going heavy for all remaining sets (10-12 reps) Tip 3- All the way down, all the way up. No pumping or jerking. Tip 4- It really doesnt matter what you do, just do 'em. And don't do just 8 sets. Do you only do 8 sets for your back? Legs? Arms? Why would you do that for your calves? Do at least 16- 20 sets 3xweek. Remember, you have to force the issue. If we walked around on our hands all day our arm muscles would be very mature and most likely tough to get any bigger than what they already are. Force the issue, high intensity. I sweat more doing calves than most guys on leg day. And its paying off. Hope something here can help. Many guys struggle with this, including myself. But I have seen good results lately and hope you can too!
Thanks for the info, already trying this, and i feel a lot of strength on calves.
yeah I basically agree with this. It took me a while to figure these things out and arrive at the same conclusion you have.
Do seated and standing calf raise but do them very slow and hold it at the top of raise for a few seconds every rep. Works well for me, get good pump in them, and good results. Also try the stair stepper and step on tip toes on edge of stair the whole time also another good little calf work out(at least for me).
I would try hitting them a bunch of ways so do seated calf raises standing calf raises you can also use the leg press machine for calves http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rtbq38mpIk
I would also go heavy 3 sets of each and maybe 8-12 reps and switch it up some times and go light weight and lots of reps
Thanks for the info, that video is insane, i'm definitely trying that at gym next time i get a chance!
Ive genetically got big calfs and legs in general but what ive found to work for me are seated calf raises high rep 15-20 followed by standing calf raises same reps . Also ive been doing my running in vibrams for the past few months and ive gotten alot of definition in my calfs i believe its due to those shoes.
My buddy has said the same thing about since he started wearing Vibrams. Might be something to that...
