What do you consider "rest"?

ad

We all know rest is an extremely important part of training. We recover and grow while sleeping. Ive heard opinions all over the place about this topic so I'm curious to see what the bros on here have to say about it. Whats your opinion of a quality rest day? Is a cardio only workout ok on a rest day or is your opinion of resting just kicking back at home?

At least 2 days off a week and at least 7-9 hours sleep a night.

I work out 5-6 days/wk with weights 4 days and cardio/abs the other 2. I'm not a good active recovery person, definitely prefer inactive (I feel more recharged the next day).

I have to get a minimum of 6 hours of sleep or I'm garbage in the gym.

Well we rest to recover don't we. Now there are 2 types of recovery. Active and inactive recovery. Active recover is doing low intensity exercise like walking or stationary cycling. Now this promotes recovery by increasing blood flow and thus oxygen and nutrients to aid in recovery. Now inactive recovery is just what they say. Sitting on your ass doing nothing. It depends on how you are feeling on the day and coupled with your diet. I find that active recovery is best.

Ive always been more of the active recovery type as well. I've always had a hard time sitting still so doing nothing is often hard for me.

Yeah that's good to hear bro. I find it the best. Oh yeah forgot to mention a good nights sleep above as well. That's bloody important.

Yeah i struggle with that part at times... Last night was an exception, after my workout boosted by TNE I crashed out hard and slept like a baby for almost 14 hours. I wonder if the TNE had anything to with it? Either way it felt amazing. Rest is definitely important.

Really depends on your goals man. Bulking I always take a day or sometimes even two and basically try not to move. When leaning out and cutting down I'm always doing some fasted cardio on my "rest" days. Listen to your body. Sometimes less is really more.
