REST AND RECOVERY

ad

Good Morning Everyone

Just wondered what everyones thoughts were on recovery and rest periods.

All through my training from young to old I have always been very liberal with my recovery periods and with my style of training 7 days as a rest period has not been unheard of. Even when I have used 7 to 10 days as a rest period after hardcore intense training I have never come back weaker and have always come back stronger and improved in either weights or reps.

I know you will all be different and the above is what works for me to achieve my best strength and muscle growth. I have people in the gym asking me nearly every day what can I do to get bigger and after a short conversation most are training 6 to 7 days a week with zero rest.

Are most novice or even established BB's scared of the word rest just in case a few days from the gym makes them shrink ( i'm being sarcastic there but it seems to be true )

Just to fill you in a bit on my training, its very heavy very fast with zero rest periods between sets but never loose in style.

So peeps whats your take on rest periods and how do you use them

It sounds like your workout is one big superset or dropset. That type of workout may require a longer rest period, but I am not sure since I have never done that type of a workout.

As far as my workouts and rest go, I usually take 1 or 2 days off a week. When not on-cycle sometimes I need 3 days off/week. I am in the middle of my cycle right now and am in full beast-mode. I am now going strong 7 days/week. This cycle is phenomenal and I just can't seem to burn myself out. I have been doing this long enough that I know when I start to overtrain so I will keep pushing it until I hit that wall. Once my strength starts dropping and it feels like I have been hit by a truck then I will put some rest days in.

PCT is when I think rest is most important. Even though your muscles may feel ok, you are still puting stress on your CNS and need to recover that as well. Short-changing yourself on rest periods during that time is just going to make you even more catabolic and sacrifice the gains you made while on-cycle.

You tear your body down during your workout and build it up during rest. So if there is no rest there is no chance to build it up. The nice thing about being on-cycle is that rest period you need is shortened significantly.
