deadlift

ad

This might be a dumb question, but when doing dead lifts, the bar hits my balls. Yesterday I did them and they were hurting late in the day, now waking up they hurt. Should I make the width wider or narrower or what?

Grab the bar right where the grips start at or a thumbs distance away, thats what i do. And some jackass said not to drag the bar up your body but thats exactly what your suppose to do(2 powerlifters at my gym taught me to dlift). when i was uping my max i left everyday with bleeding shins because when you have a shit ton of weight on the bar youll keep it close to you as possible for an better advantage.

lol,ive scraped my shins a few times but never my bizzals. if all else fails try a cup

Also make sure you're not lining up too close to the bar. The bar should cross over the end of your foot when you're standing over it. Then when you squat down into your starting position your shins should be touching the bar, or almost touching. It sounds to me like you're lining up with your shins touching the bar and then stiff legging it.

Ya I do have it right against my body, I thought that's how I was supposed to do it. So, I should bend down more?

Aamon's picture

When you're standing straight up the bar should be away from your shins, so that when you squat into the starting position it just touches at that point. Otherwise if you're too close when you line up you're forced to stiff leg it. Also to humungous's point. Your grip should be as narrow as you can without running into your legs. The wider your grip the shorter your arms are. The shorter your arms are the further the bar travels up your body, hence the introduction to your nuts.

So how close should my feet be?

lol, good for a laugh not for the boys, wearing boxer briefs will keep them more secure, if you use enough gear they will shrink and you wont have to worry about it anymore.

Lmfao. I do plan on starting my first cycle as soon as it comes in, and I always wear boxer briefs while working out. Sometimes the pain makes me paranoid like it could be a hernia or something.

I guess ill just make my stance much more narrow

lol so tru

It should be lower, right? I was thinking maybe my arms or short or something but ill give it a shot next time, thanks.

Also, what's a wind up?

The Humungous's picture

Probably a wind-up but I'll bite.

The bar shouldnt make any contact with that area unless you're using a wide snatch grip or have T-Rex arms.....or have massive balls.

Use a more narrow, shoulder width grip next time.
