close grip bench press.
ad
What distance is between your hands? I keep it about 6-8 inch apart, if I go wider I feel it more in my chest.
Looking for opinions guys, I see some people doing what I'd describe as semi bench/close grip with up to about 12-18 inch distance between hands. I think they go wider so they can lift heavier, but this surly puts more emphasis on pecs not triceps?
Thats what I think, how about you? How wide do you do it?

I put my hands where the gnurls start on the bar. Keep my elbows tucked. It's really sad but I close grip quite a bit more than I can bench normal.
I read an article in men's fitness about this, according to them apparently once you go in further than a little more than shoulder width apart you add no added stress onto the muscle. Guitarplayer and raw lifter hit the nail on the head, keep tension and keep those elbows in!
I go one finger inside the mid set of rings. And focus more on keeping my elbows in and let them drop beside me. And only press to about a inch before lock out to maintain constant tention on the tri
Just wide enough that i can get all the way down with the hands next to my chest. I don't really like CGBP though, my chest just overpowers my tris on every bench movement.
Ace VenturaMaybe it's just me, but for me, the closer my hands, the more I feel it in the triceps, but the harder it is in my wrists. I go about a narrow shoulder width and just concentrate on keeping the elbows in and focus on the triceps. I don't care who says what, it works for me. And I always go for about 10+good reps.
10 inches and I do not lock out the arms at top. Keeps the pressure on the triceps the whole time.
That's where it's at. I do them exactly same. Works great !
I always lockout, I might try not locking next time round to see how that feels.
I dont always lockout when doing standard bench press, generally just go with how I feel at times.
I do notice some at at the gym do partial reps over a variety of exercises though, but I mainly do the full range of motion when training.
Ace VenturaNever lock out elbows or knees!! Wtf. If that's what I think you're saying.
I mainly lockout at the point of muscle fatigue, just to get a couple of deep breaths in then push a couple more reps out.
Ive trained pretty much the same way forever, looks like that may need to be revised.
We live n learn bro!
Thanks for the input.
Ace VenturaI love you robb. But yeah, you can't do this with everything obviously, but with close grip, if I need a second for a breath, I'll take it at the bottom since the weight is usually manageable with that specific exercise.
I love you too Ace, lol. Do we need to throw a no homo in their bro? Nah, fuck it were all boys here, lmao!!
It's a shame we cant upload little video clips, techniques and range of motion could be dissected and corrected.
Ace VenturaI rarely say no homo. ;~)
That would be nice. Shit, not to stray from topic, but I'd love to see that every time someone states a new PR. Let's see that form!!
Time under tension is where it at.
Chest width....when its at the lowest point your fists should fit snuggly beside you........any wider ad chest and any closer and you risk damage to wrists and tendons...
I keep my arms paralel and straight up grabbing the weight. I usually can push more this way and get a super burn on my Tris then skull crushers then rever grip pull downs.
Not many do reverse grip pull downs were I train, I do em at the end usually, nice n steady, get a nice squeeze at the bottom.
