meniscus / cartilage tear.
Like it says above I've got a meniscus tear. It's the outer right knee.
Did this shit to myself last Saturday doing front squats, went to deep and my knees fanned outwards as I sat into the squat and heard a loud crack come from my right knee. Still painfull 8 days later with very little movement possible i can walk with a limp now rather than hobbling around like it was the first few days so there's some improvement.
I went to the hospital Sunday they examined me and referred me to a knee specialist who i saw on Wednesday and diagnosed the injury as a meniscus tear.
The reason for the post is to see if anyone else has had the same injury and how surgery helped and how long before you could get back to working legs again.
Basically any information good or bad would be much appreciated as ive never really suffered any real injury like this before, puts an aching shoulder into perspective that's for sure!
I'm due for surgery soon as the knee physio has put in my notes that it needs doing asap. I'll update this post over the coming weeks n months so if anyone else has this happen to them they may find it in the search feature, hopefully they may find some comfort in their predicament lol.

Finally had my pre op assessment this morning, the consultant has said, yes it's a meniscus tear so I'm having surgery in six days.
So glad to be getting this done now, it's not fun being stuck indoors for this long. I've never been so inactive in my whole life, it's only been the last week that I've been able to walk about normally.
It's been about 7 weeks since this injury, I've lost a lot of muscle in both legs but the right leg is the worst, with a bit of luck it won't be too long before I can start squats again, right now I'd be happy to just do bodyweight squats lol.
Good luck with your recovery. Hopefully you won't be forced to use crutches for an extended amouunt of time.
Fat thumb negged you So I fixed it
He said I'd need a knee brace for a couple of weeks followed by 6-9 month physio. That's not ideal but if it has to be done I'm going to do it!
If he didn't say nonweightbearing you're good. That's the word that scares me every time I need surgery on a knee. I lost so much mass last go round that six months later if you saw a picture of just my legs you wouldn't be able to tell that they were from the same person
I've had the lateral meniscus tear in both my knees. The surgery took 15 minutes to 30 minutes both times, during which the carved out the torn section. I was lucky because my MRIs actually showed pretty severe tearing, but under the knife I lost 15% in my left knee and 25% in my right knee. I was back in the gym squatting two weeks post surgery, obviously starting low and working my way up.
Here's the thing. Once it's torn, it's more prone to tearing again, and I do believe I've retorn my left knee. I now wrap my knees for heavy leg work, and use Inzer sleeves for any leg work that I don't consider heavy. I wish you luck, hopefully the tear isn't anything bad, and hope you have a speedy recovery bud.
I think I'll be definitely wrapping my knees up in the future, it's bad enough messing your knee up but I don't want it to be a recurring issue. I think I'll just stick to light, medium weight in the future. I wasn't even doing heavy weight when it went, I'd done a couple of warm up sets, it was the second rep of my second working set, it was going to low and my knees pushing outwards as they made way for my upper body sitting low in the rep.
Thanks for the input, it's good to know you was back so quickly, I'm staying optimist that things work out well.
Had an ACL rupture at the same time as a meniscus tear, obviously the cartlidge damage was a minor part of a lengthy recovery so unable to comment on that part.
Best wishes for your surgery and wishing you a speedy return to health.
Seems like you've been through it with injuries, if I remember right you had a couple of shoulder surgeries too.
Yeah, I'm hoping to make a speedy recovery, guess I'll have a better idea when after I've spoken to the surgeon.
Double post :(
It all depends on the severity of the tear. If they repair it it'll be six weeks non weight bearing. If they cut the torn piece out you be walking on it within a couple days. I had the same surgery, they cut it out and was back in the gym in a couple weeks.
I could live with 6 weeks out tbh, a couple of weeks would be a dream lol. I've been thinking months rather than weeks just going on how it feels, I could do with some good luck with this.
I've had almost every procedure done to my knees. Acl, mcl, torn meniscus, microfracture. And by far the meniscus was the easiest recovery. Hope it works out
Damn! Try to be more careful in future lol. Cheers bud!
