Are there different kinds of Olympic bar bells? i have an older one and was wondering if the new ones have the rings.in a different area spaced apart or what. i find it too uncomfortable to even put my pinky on the grooves! lol. Im 5'10" too so it not like Im real little or anything. any help...

There are two types of ring sets you will see, one is a powerlifting set of rings and the other is an olympic set of rings. The two closest together are for the bench press, I believe certain organizations require your hands to be inside of those two rings. The outer set of rings is for the Snatch lift in Olympic weightlifting, and I don't believe your hands have to be outside of them, its moreso just a standard place for you to check your grip.

EDIT: bench press marks are 810mm apart, and Olympic marks are 910mm. Hope this helps Biggrin

Thank you. any idea why i find it uncomfortable for even my pinky to be on the grooves for bench pressing? I don't know many who do it inside of it. some even do pointer on it same size and height as me

Which part about it is uncomfortable? Is it actual pain in a certain area? For me, my normal (not wide, not narrow) bench grip is pinkies just touching the bench marks. Again, for me this helps my shoulders and wrists not feel to beat up after heavy benching. You're own limb structure is going to come into play as well. If you aren't competing I say don't worry about where your hands are as long as you are getting in there and showing that weight that you are the bad mamba jamba and you will rape its little barbell babies if it thinks its gonna show you up. Keep growin brotha.

Well thats the thing, my bench used to be good, then it dropped tremendously and very slowly climbing back up. i used to have it wide and then it was causing too much pain on my wrist and shoulder
