Back and delt development most important.

ad

My personal opinion is that these two muscle groups create the v shape and total foundation that we are all after in some way( bodybuilders and physique guysand gals at least). When i started training many moons ago all i did was hit chest and biceps... very little back or shoulder work. I felt chest worked delts enough and i was scared of doing too much delt work cuz my dad had two rotater surgerys from pitching in baseball and i saw how it limited his movement. So once i got over that issue and started hitting pullups almost daily as well as side and rear laterals, my chest all the sudden looked better, my whole shape changed! It was then that people around me started taking notice and commenting...point is that if you have a great wide thick back and rounded capped delts you will look jacked even with a sweatshirt on! U cant hide that look...any comments or training tips welcome

I had a conversation with a mate one day: He said that a big chest and biceps were most important from a visual point of view. I agreed to a point - saying if you see a guy walking towards you with a good chest and biceps, you are impressed, but If the guy doesn't have a good back and traps when he walks by - you forget the chest and biceps.

IMO heavy shrugs (done slowly with shoulders pulled back and NO rolling), cable pull downs behind the head and shoulder presses work well for trap development.

2 of the biggest muscle groups in your body is legs and back, if those 2 areas are lacking, the foundation will suck. Every other muscle group in your body will start to look more even and grow better when everything matches.

I totally agree. Good legs and a strong developed back is gonna look very well built. Add some capped delts and the arms and chest in my opinion could be mediocre and the physique will still look balenced and powerful. but ths other way around just looks like somone who does curls and bench 5 days a week... and we all have seen them guys in the gym day in and day out trainin the same only to look identical a year later

I don’t disagree although my legs have been neglected the most over the years. I really respect the guys with great legs. Legs are what separates the real guys..

Wait until you are in your 50's and older - getting size on legs is almost impossible. You have a set of muscles that have been carrying you around for 50+ years, they are well used to stress and exertion. Look at all the older advanced Masters competitors - the majority doen't have large legs - and it's not from lack of trying. It's just a fact of life and aging.

I feel your pain!
Between bad genetics and lack of training I’m playing hell now trying to overcome the (SLS) small leg syndrome.
I’m hitting them twice a week and finally starting to see a little balance

Try splitting them up. One day only quad exercises, another day only hamstrings and glutes.
A solid hour of just quads will have your shit burning like it’s your first day in the gym.

Now of course this is refering to upper body only... i know the full importance for balence and symmetry between upper and lower but thats a whole nother topic....
