if i wanted to ask advice on obtaining a source for a product without breaking rules, where may i ask?

You can't. It is against the rules. You could use the search function and maybe find pictures of said product, then check what source the user used to get the product. Or if someone mentions the product somewhere in their post, you could send them an FR and PM them about it. But you can't do it in open forum.
