Ketogenic diet - Dose it work? My epxerience and diet plan.

ad

I have been doing a Keto Diet plan for almost 2 months now and I thought id share my thoughts both pros and cons with what I have experienced.
For those who don't know a Keto diet is pretty much a low carb, med pro and high fat diet. The idea is to shift your body from using Leptins to Ketones as its primary fuel source meaning it looks to fat to fuel the body rather than Carbs.

This is my Diet I have been folowing the past 8 weeks

Breakfest.
2 Eggs
2 Slices of Bacon
2 Cheddar Cheese
f-35 / c-1.5 / p32.5 = T 460

Snack
1/2 Avacado
100g Chicken
1tb Olive oil
f-36 / c-8.5 / p31.5 = T 475

Lunch
125g Beef paddy
1 Slice of bacon
1 Cheder Cheese
70g Spinich
f-36.5 / c-2.5 / p-32 = T 473

Snack
40g Almonds
50g Cheder Cheese
f-36.5 / c-8.5 / p-21 = T434

Dinner
150g Porterhouse Steak
100g Broccoli
f-29.5 / c-6.5 / p 38.5 = T449

Grand Total
F-173.5 / C-27.5 / P-155.5 = 2291 Cals.

Now total cals Obviously will go up once u put in sups like Whay protine and so forth but i only consumed these on workout days where the extra energy is needed.

So has it worked? the simple answer is YES and very very well. By means i am no expert on the diet and what I have above is my own Plan I have made from all the research from forums and talking to a nutritionist at my local gym. The idea of eating fat to lose fat go against most ppls logic but once u read up how it works and y it works its pretty amazing

One other thing is you need to give yourself a curb up period of 24 -30 hours. I attempted to do this diet with out doing the carb up and I found by the time u got to the end of the second week you felt a lil retarded. Yup, like a dead set spastic! my concentration had dropped and the craving for pasta and chocolate got huge.
So on the Friday dinner time till Breakfast Sunday morning smash those carbs.

So the Pros I have found.
You shed heaps of fat.
The Diet I find is easy cos u get to eat tasty foods (Bacon)
Because of Ketonsis your body cannot go into a Catabolic state so muscle lose is not an issue as much as other diets.

The cons!!
The first Week is HELL, No energy, lethargic and you will find you will go to the toilet a lot on this diet.
If you don't drink water your in trouble, you need to drink alot on this diet.
If you stay in a sate of Ketosis for to long you will feel funny in the head. you can buy Ketostrips from a local Chemist to check your lvls, they r roughly about $9 a pack.

Conclusion.
All in all im very happy with this diet and how it works. I have seen results in myself and will be sticking with it for a while. Im also open to ideas on how i could improve it, nothing is perfect so leave as may comments as u can Biggrin

My stats.
31 y/o
178cm
Before : 84.7kg - BF%21
After : 77.6KG - BF%15.5 and falling ;)

I've been reading into this for the past couple of weeks and it looks promising. Can't wait to give it a go. One tip I could give from the reading I've done is exchange regular vegetable cooking oils for coconut oil and maybe have a tablespoon full when you're feel low on energy, it's supposed to have a big effect on the amount of ketones you produce which should stop the low energy and lethargic feeling.
